macOS Big Sur Beta Released!

Apple announced their new macOS Big Sur in the recent WWDC2020.

For those that would like to install without an official apple developer account, @Bronxteck showed me a neat trick as follow:-

In terminal type "sudo /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Seeding.framework/Versions/A/Resources/seedutil enroll DeveloperSeed"

After a while, software updates should show new macOS beta available for download.

Need to make sure that the smbios you are using is a supported model. Otherwise the new beta will not appear in software updates.

To create an install USB, in terminal type "sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Beta.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/target"

Will post more once I get macOS Big Sur up and running!

EDIT 11 JULY 2020

I found a cool script from IM that will download the latest beta installer from Apple.

Post link is as follow: https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/344428-pre-release-macos-big-sur/?page=15 (scroll down to crazybird post)

Script link is as follow: https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=352544 (need to be a member to download)

Cheers!

Hi everyone!

I finally managed to run macOS Big Sur Beta 1 on my 4th gen desktop hack using the following guide https://www.olarila.com/topic/8977-guide-installrestore-bigsur-with-opencore/.

So far cloning from a real Mac installation is the only way to get Big Sur running on a hackintosh as the installer still does not boot from opencore or clover.

OpenCore bootpack can be obtained from here: https://osxlatitude.com/forums/topic/10090-gigabyte-h81m-ds2-i3-4330-hd7750-sierra-high-sierra-mojave-catalina-big-sur/.

Will report again once I find a way to boot usb installers.

Happy hackintoshing!

Dear all,

Finally managed to both update from beta 1 to beta 2 or clean install beta 2 to a new hard disk.

BigSur_b2.jpg

I had to run the install app from an existing Mac OS system as my bootpack is still not able to boot a usb installer created using createmediainstall.

Bootpack can be obtained from here : https://osxlatitude.com/forums/topic/10090-gigabyte-h81m-ds2-i3-4330-hd7750-sierra-high-sierra-mojave-catalina-big-sur/

Will investigate this further and report back.

Cheers!

EDIT 11 July 2020

Alright, managed to boot the usb installer. As @Jake Lo advised, with latest lilu we can omit all those -lilubetaall vsmcgen=1 booter-fileset-kernel booter-fileset-basesystem stuff.

Make sure to reset nvram on first boot of the OC and boot the usb installer on reboot.

Also looks like "booter-fileset-kernel & booter-fileset-basesystem" need to be remove when booting usb only and 1st stage installation. 2nd stage looks like it still need those to boot.

Cheers!

Dear All,

Beta 3 has been released.

vsmcgen=1 boot flag is required to boot.

So far managed to enter installer but exited premature.

Still investigating the problem and will report back.

Dear All,

Managed to install Beta 3. Apparently the installer app downloaded via Software Update is bad. Redownloaded the app via terminal method as mentioned in earlier post.
