Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 (not working on D830 ML 10.8.4)

Hi folks,

Running into problems getting my D830 (currently stable on ML) to properly detect my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 USB recording interface.  Looking in the system info, it sees it, but it doesn't seem to install the necessary stuff to run it (i.e. the interfaces are not selectable in GarageBand or any other app).  I've actually used it before on a 10.6.3 machine that was technically unsupported, and everything detected fine.  My install is straight from the myHack and EDP procedures on the site.  Any idea what may be causing this?  Or where I would start?  I'm kinda new to the whole Hackintosh thing, especially on ML.

Thanks in advance!

Well have you checked to see if it is compatible with the os? maybe the manufacturer has an installer. it might need udated kexts. if not you might have to try load the kexts from your previous os that worked.

Ok i took a look at http://us.focusrite.com/downloads?product=Saffire

If that's your driver, your going to have to stay in snow leopard or lion, running in arch=i386 mode to use it.

I looked at its binary file and it's not good news:

SaffireControl are: ppc i386

ML does not support 32bit

Actually, the Scarlett 2i4 appears supported from Lion, not before:

http://global.focusrite.com/downloads/os?product=Scarlett+2i4

And here, it says, it's plug and play:

http://global.focusrite.com/downloads?product=Scarlett+2i4

Try that Scarlett-plug-in-suite software...

And p7 of the user guide mentions activation codes on a card + registration process that provides access to drivers and software:

I'd say that the problem, as you've reported it, is not at all related to ML or the D830, but more to incorrect or lack of installation of the Focusrite software.

I appreciate the replies so far.

Yes, the 2i4 is not technically supported under SL, but I know of some others running it on that as well. It's just not a supported release.

ML is supposed to be supported, with no drivers needed. The license keys are for activating some optional software plugins. I was concerned about activating them on this laptop and the laptop not working long term. I'll try it today, but I really don't think it will solve the problem.

I installed the plug-ins.  Still no luck.  The inputs and outputs still don't show up in the list of available options.

These are supposed to run through standard Core Audio.  Is there anything I can do to double-check my config?

Which audio kext are you using? Patched STAC9205 or Voodoo? Maybe that card can only be supported through AppleHDA drivers. Whatever driver you're using, try the other one listed in EDP, you never know...

Strangely enough, I thought I had tried this combination unsuccessfully before, but overriding the build to use the latest Voodoo patch (at least the latest in the EDP) worked.  I'm going to test it out for latency, but it looks like a winner.  Thanks for all of the help.
