Intresting Install

I am obviously a newby to the hackintosh crowd, I've been working several weeks trying to hack my Dell 580s with no luck trying every solution I've found in the community. To shorten this topic so I don't bore everyone lets just say I really don't know what I'm doing... I had an install going that at last booted in safe mode. but every time I would add a kext or driver it would panic, then finally I thought it was beyond hope and I gave up.

Now on the other hand I was re-installing OS on my MacBook last night and used my usb external to back it up, all went well.

Just for the hell of it, I struck the usb external on my Dell 580 and turned it on, pressed F12 for boot options booted to the MyHack install usb stick I made, then pressed a key for boot options and booted the Lion usb backup drive I just attached and it booted just like a real Mac out of the box... LOL

The only thing I had to do post install was run MyHack and install the extra's to make it boot on it's own. then install the kext for the Gigabit PCI network adapter I had installed and the Voodo sound kext. The ATI 5450 graphics card is working out of the box for the most part.

I just thought it was intresting considering all the work I put into this, to have it go so easy.

You can try to 'Clone' your working OS X partition (your USB External Hard Drive) to a partition in your internal Hard Drive. Then make the internal HD as your main boot partition, so you can keep your ext USB HD just for back-up or something (like I do).

I use free app called "Carbon Copy Cloner" (search it in the net) for that purpose.
