myHack on Dell Inspiron 530s

Attached is a pic of my hardware specs using the lspci -nn command. I am using the integrated graphics, and after a restart the graphics became less choppy and rather smooth but they sometimes go back, usually cleared up by a restart. Im ok with the choppy graphics as long as a restart continues to clear it up. So 82652V-2 would be the controller.

As I suspected, you have the default integrated GMA 3100 and that is totally unsupported under Mac OS X. That is why your machine is lagging and graphics are choppy: you have no acceleration at all.

You have to install a supported PCIe card in your 530s. It's the Small Tower model, right? I use a Twintech GT610 2Go in my Vostro 200 ST as it comes with low-profile rear brackets in order to fit into low-profile desktop such as ours. GT610-based cards are very cheap and work perfectly.

You can actually use the Vostro 200 bootpack and EDP System Build, but remember to replace the Vostro DSDT table by the 530s table I provided earlier.

OK i will look for the Vostro 200 bootpack, or at least try lol. Any help would be appreciated, as always! :)

As for the graphics, thats funny because sometimes the graphics works so amazingly and sometimes it doesnt but like i said a simple reboot usually fixes the issue. It is indeed the Dell Inspiron 530s, slim series 530. Everything seems to be working flawlessly, so i wonder if there is any way i can find the 82562V-2 kext and use it. Im assuming that will require me to reintall the system on the drive again, which is no issue at all.

I plan on upgrading this computer, as i may or may not be getting a 1TB HDD for it for christmas (my 80GB is failing). If i do upgrade it, i plan on a better graphics card, more ram, in addition to installing the 1TB HDD. I also have another more intense project for this computer, or at least the parts of it, as i may be hacking an X-Rocker chair to become an ultimate computer gaming chair.

Graphics will be Ok up until acceleration is required by the OS, which can be as soon as you open up Safari for instance. For very basic stuff, you'll be Ok, but you will notice that your Finder bar will not be translucent, that you have no way to change screen resolution through the display pref pane or that opening up the LaunchPad will be slow and possibly glitchy. Try a Ctrl-UP/Ctrl-UP, Ctrl-DOWN/Ctrl-DOWN or Ctrl-LEFT/Ctrl-RIGHT to see how that goes too… Basically, you need to get a supported low-profile PCIe card in that desktop.

Here's a /Extra folder for your Inspiron 530s that contains:

i530s_Extra.zip

  1. DSDT table (from LatinMcG)
  2. Chameleon boot plist
  3. SMBIOS plist (iMac 10,1 profile)
  • Extensions subfolder with:
  1. the tuned up FakeSMC kext
  2. the 2 PS2 kexts (AppleACPIPS2Nub + ApplePS2Controller)
  3. the 2 Voodoo audio kexts (VoodooHDA + AppleHDADisabler)
  4. the LAN port kext (Intel82566MM)
  5. the lspci kext (lspcidrv)

That's all I use and that's all you need as far as I can see in your /Extra folder to boot with everything working (unless you have other hardware I missed).

To show you how close the Inspiron 530s and the Vostro 200 ST are, here the lspci info from my Vostro (obviously you won't have my nVidia graphics card or my Tenda Ralink-based wireless dongle):

I am currently about to reinstall my OS with the updated files you gave me. I will test them when I'm finished and let you know how it goes. Im sure this should fix the issue! As for the graphics, i did what you said to try, and it is choppy and slow. I see what you mean by that and i will look into purchasing a low-profile card.

So in light of my graphics card being incompatible with the hackintosh build. I was thinking on purchasing this low profile Asua GT520 2GB. See below link:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0075814KK/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1387040533&sr=8-1

I checked compatibility with hackintosh and found a kext file for it. See below link:

http://www.osx86.net/files/file/977-asus-nvidia-gt520-kext-for-mountain-lion-10-8-zip/

I'm basically double checking my research before I put the money out on a graphics card. Anyone got any objections to my research?

Also, yesterday I installed OS X again and promised an update. I had to leave my install last night so I am unsure as of yet if it worked or not but I will post again ASAP.

GT520 has been replaced by GT610, granted they are identical (nVidia just renamed older cards). You would not normally need any kexts for that card as the GT610 works OOB in Lion, ML and Mavericks. Things will therefore be similar with the GT520 (at worst maybe a kext patch could be required). That kext might have been required before ML 10.8.2 or L 10.7.4, as the GT610 works OOB since those versions. GT610 can be purchased for well under USD $50, so I would not go buying a GT520 (old stock?) for USD $80!

What do you mean when you say of your installation that you are "unsure [...] if it worked or not" ??? You either managed to install and boot Mavericks properly or you did not. What could there be you are unsure of?

I was actually going to purchase the card used. It was around $25. Your saying more along the lines of a gt610 then like the link below:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008AJKIN2/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1387042570&sr=8-2

And I started the install and had to walk away while it installed. I have not been home since to check the status of the install to see if it worked and if I now have network access.
