I was notified 10.9.2 was available and figured it was easy to reinstall if it fubar'd my machine & what do ya know it worked!

Thought I'd share.

Oddly, in 10.8.5, my 15.4" machine showed up as 15", in 10.9.x.x is shows as 13"

Are you using the same smbios.plist on both setup?

The update shouldn't change the serial number. Nor does it normally change the model, which appears to be the case, thus the change from 15" to 13". Based on the screen shots, it look as if both have been changed. Assuming it was an App Store update as indicated in your initial post.

I did not do anything to either .plist. I just used the installer using your instructions both times. I am not savvy enough to mess with things under the hood unless directed because I have an issue.

lol

Your ML uses the serial that's on my ML bootpack, but your Mavericks has a different serial. Open your smbios.plist with text pad or Chameleon Wizard, does it say MacBookPro9,1?

It says Macbook Pro 9.2

Can I change it to something that will better reflect what it is?

Thanks

Either one is fine. MBP 9.1 or 9.2. If you want to emulate like your ML, download Chameleon Wizard and generate a new smbios for MPB 9.1 which will give you 15" screen. This is just cosmetics.
