If Intel wireless, you must either disable it in BIOS or physically remove the card. It's not supported and is known to cause issue. You will have to replace it. You could have started with this step: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/2350-bios-settings-d420-core-duo/

 

DW1390/DW1490 are good 802.11g (54Mbps) choices; they work OOB and cost pennies these days. Atheros AR5B91 is an excellent alternative in the 802.11n (150-300/400Mbps) range.
