  1. Interesting approach on this - I will certainly try it. Of course being a holiday week and me out of town I don't actually have the machine! So I will try this when I get back to it.

So, on another note - which BIOS do you have then? Do you have the patched one or the standard Dell? Just curious so I can have the recovery ready if need be.

Im using the official A17 Bios, as the one on this forum isnt functioning correctly

  2. Yes, the graphics are completely distorted - you can see the top right corner where it says press F2 for setup and F12 for boot options and then you can see the progress bar over top of it but it gets 3/4 of the way across and freezes (regardless of having a USB device in or not at boot)

OK, well what it really needs is a bake, BUT you can do this to get the system going as well. remove the keyboard and loosen screws I believe 2 and 3 on the cooling system ( two closest to the gpu so that it takes the heatsink off of the gpu. power on the system and go immediately into the bios and let it sit until the machine shuts off on its own( its a safety feature in the system) this will cause the gpu to heat up and in my case it heated up and redid the connections. This is a common problem on D630's even if you turned in to get the fix after the Nvida Lawsuit. once the machine shuts off screw down the heatsink and power on once more, you should have a working system once again.

I've had to do this atleast three times before on my system, but was remedied once I got speedstep working on my GPU and CPU, Ive yet to have to do it again.

quick note on the screws on the heatsink, dont tighten them down as far as they will go, just so that the heatsink is snug on the gpu.

  3. If you get a good BIOS patch let me know. I killed another D630 of mine doing the patched one a while back. The boot was terribly slow and the screen was all crazy with colors (for lack of a better term) and wouldn't boot at all. So that one is toast....

It actually freezes completely when booting with a USB stick so I don't think I can recover it.

    Nvidia based system?

  4. I'm having D630 running Lion 10.7.2, with some freezing issues, hopefully will be able to fix it now by modifying fakesmc.

The only thing worries me a bit is the fan running constantly with speed.

Do you have similar fan issue?

Im no pro, but I dont believe modifying FakeSMC will fix random freezes unless I've missed something somewhere.

I dont have any fan issues, it runs according to load of the machine. a lot of that has to do with using speedstep, overall my machine stays around 30 degrees C.

  5. i think you have to have the same cpu as devious for his p-states to work properly for you. but i could be wrong.....

Very True! see I forget little details sometimes. As for RobertB, we have the same setup but for those of you downloading this kext pack to try on your setup, that is a very important thing to know that you must have the same CPU as myself which is the T7300 2.0Ghz where I modified the DSDT for my CPU Setup.

    Good looking out Bronxteck!

  6. devious,

I have used your Extra list with my installation.

We probably have the same system.

Could you drop your up to date extra folder on the form.

I like to see if I get the touchpad working as well.

AT this moment I have to use a USB mouse.

    RobertB,

Here's my updated setup. Ive changed to the EDP 2.2 Setup but I still modify it a bit.

    1. I change my Mac Model to MacBookPro5,1. This is so that I get a nice setup with speedstepping not only the CPU but also the GPU. It's not for everyone but this setup Allows me to Play Starcraft II and WoW with no problems at all.

    2. I've manually added 5 speedsteps for the CPU in to the DSDT 1200-2000mhz that are used by VoodooPstate. Im not using the native Apple Powermanagement as you will notice but looking at the 0EDP.kext file I am using NullCPUPM in conjuction with VoodooPState. For some reason games have an issue with ApplePowerManagement on this partiticular rig. Again this is for performance and probably isnt for everyone but it works great for me. You could always switch back to the EDP DSDT.aml. if you do go back to EDP's DSDT remember to edit the org.chameleon.boot.plist and reenable GeneratePStates and GenerateCStates.

    3. I include LegacyACPI.kext and LegacyAGPM in my setup, again all for my gpu speedstepping that works ever so nicely, even though I could probably tweak it a bit more.

    4. I use the Slice-ANV PS2 kext setup with one exception, Ive modified it to be able to use Keyboard in 32/64 bit, since I only use 64 bit I needed to have a PS2 kext that works great in that mode and also allows me to use the mouse prefpane.

I don't think I forgot anything. The EDP team does a wonderful job and with out them I wouldnt be as far along as I am now, I just have my own idea of what my setup should be for performance so I use their work as a basis for creating my own custom build. that being said their original setup is included still in my zip archive so you could rerun it to rebuild your setup to one of their predefined builds if mine doesnt help you.

To use this, extract the file. put the Extra Directory in it's proper place. It will overwrite your Existing if you just copy it over, thats fine but I would recommend renaming your existing to like Extra.original or whatever name you prefer then copying the file ove. Then put 0EDP.kext in your /S/L/E. I do this using Kext Wizard, wondeful app!

Hope this helps you out! and now for the file!!

    Extra.zip

Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.

  7. I had the issue with the mouse cursor jumping all over as well. I had to go into touchpad prefs and uncheck use two finger scrolling now my mouse is nice and smooth. I understand it seems each setup is different but maybe that will help those few that are having similiar issues.

  8. devious, I tried your pack (at least I think I got the right link), and it seems to give me same results as edp 2.1, I have a keyboard that works, but no mouse at all (without a usb one plugged in). any thoughts?

These Kexts work with Lion Perfectly in 32 and 64bit mode

    PS2 Lion Kexts.zip

  9. All,

I'm working on getting my D630 with Nvidia video to work with Lion.

I have the Myhack installation on a USB.

The systems starts from the USB and goos all the way to the gray screen.

I get the mouse pointer and then it turns into this rotating color wheel.

I have added the Extra.D630.Nvidia.zip of devious in the Extra folder on the USB.

    I have tried:

    -v -f

    cpus=1

what do I have to do to get lion installed?

    thanks,

Edit org.chameleon.boot.plist and change UseKernelCache=No, if its my D630 Extra pack you are using. I ran into that problem as well, and seems I didnt add the updated pack to my post.

  10. in my experiences with my D630, That halt is a result of the dsdt not having UID, zero in the Device(PCI0) sub. but doesnt mean its the same issue, you can always try adding npci=0x2000 to the boot options to see if that helps your situation any, also make sure you are using a modified DSDT with that option, Ive forgotten to copy the DSDT over to the boot drive /Extra before causing me to have that problem as well.

  11. Tells you right in the KP what the issue is. with the D630's you dont need the ElliotRTC kext, it only causes issues, that needed removed from the myhack default Extra as well to get it working, simply remove that kext and you should be good to go.

  12. yup same problem here ... you could try 'windowskey n' (workaround)

nm! not quite the same! unicode command. Yeah let's see if there's a keyboard mapping tool:

    what about http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20060825072451882 ?

I found a perm fix, and its so easy, turns out the fix is from 10.5.8 which is why I had such a hard time finding it. but here you go. Tested and works 100%

  13. D630 T8300/ BCM Wlan/ Nvidia 135M/Screen 1440x900/

    OS X Lion 10.7.2

    Modified EDP DSDT.aml

    In S/L/E:

    - AppleACPIBatteryManager

    - AppleHDADisabler

    - BCM5722D

    - FakeSMC

    - IntelCPUMonitor

    - lspcidrv

    - NCClockX

    - Patched_10.7_AppleRTC

-customized VoodooPS2Controller (took a plugin from another that had 64bit keyboard support)

    VoodooHDA.kext

Native PowerManagement by not including GenerateCstates GeneratePstates in Chameleon config. I get 5 P states, all undervolted and running nice and cool and very smooth. This was all done by the Apple Powermanagement natively. no dsdt edits etc.

QE/CI enabled using GraphicsEnabler in Chameleon.(removed the stuff from DSDT)

    Booting with 64bit

  14. The myhack method is great, I use that method. Yes you need to have mac installed, even if its in a virtual machine, like vmware. Ive attached my Extra Folder, when myHack ask for Extra point it to where ever you extracted the attached file and it will do the rest, rather than using the generic kexts it ships with.

    here's the guide for myHack.

    MyHack Guide

    Extra.D630.Nvidia.zip

Just a side note. The extensions in the extra directory, I put them in /S/L/E instead of /E/E. You should in theory be able to use them from /E/E though.

The PS/2 Driver I included in this pack I have touchpad and J-stick working. but no scrolling, thats not a big deal for me as I dont use scrolling on the touchpad. I know there are others that work with scrolling in the EDP pack. the anv-slice version does, but the keyboard part of that kext only works when running OSX in 32bit mode, so I dont use it.

    hope this helps.

  15. -Where you are from/where you live.

    Southern, OH, US

-How long you have used a hackint0sh (if this is your first time, state that you are new to this).

    about a year.

-A brief summary of your experiences in hackint0shing (if any).

still fairly green on most things but I've just about mastered the Latitude D630 series

-What triggered your interest in hackint0sh.

Love the OS, for me it's much smoother than windows for most of the things I do.

    -Your general computer skill level.

    Systems Admin, wanna be coder.

-List any technical experience you have in various operating systems and programming languages (if any).

I know all of the windows systems from workstation to Server(most of my clients use it. Im familiar enough with C to be dangerous

  16. Yeah tried all that reverted back to the optimal kexts Ive found for Lion, which include AppleACPIBattery and VoodooHDA 2,7,2. I can assure you that you will have problems on lion if you install AppleACPIBattery. ;)

But over all I pulled some stuff out of EDP to tweak things to my liking ;)

  17. Awesome job guys! I'd like to get on the team for the D630 Nvidia, if you guys wanted the help or even a tester.

Also, I know this only adds basic functionality for Lion, but the current wget is compiled for PPC Arch, which as you know Rosetta was pulled from Lion.

Let me know if you need any help, I've been working with Lion on the D630 since DP1 and it is a completely different beast in some ways.

Again, Great job on the release.

  18. Hello Duscrom,

We will be releasing EDP 1.9 soon, which should work with 10.6.8. :) Will be releasing EDP 2.0 shortly after, which adds support for Lion.

As we are all eagerly awaiting EDP's new release Conti has released an updated, completely rewritten version of myHack which supports lion and makes a wonderful USB installer.

    MyHack 2.0 RC1

You can run that tool and it will build the installer for you and even use your existing Extra directory.

The one issue I had ran across was a DSDT error which I modified the existing so that it works with Lion, which requires adding _UID, Zero under Device (PCI0). Ive attached the modified DSDT

    DSDT_SMBIOS_NVIDIA_LION

That also includes the smbios I am using, I would only replace your current one if you are having issues with the current one in EDP.

Hope this helps. If you have any questions don't hesitate
