  1. Hey folks - I was wondering if anybody got a working App Store Yosemite 10.10 build to install using myhack on the E6500 and if so if they can post instructions? or using unifail for that matter? Anyone know what version of myhack supports it (or does any version support 10.10 as of right now)? I just got 10.9.5 to install and I am hoping to just be able to switch to 10.10 ....But that all depends on what the fine folks on this site which i rely on so much so can do !!!
  2. The idea behind this thread is to share tweaks and tips for running 10.9+ on M4400s. These findings may also apply to similar models, but the focus is on the M4400. I've been running a setup based on DaFOB's Guide. It runs well, but there's always room for improvement… especially since the guide was really more geared for the E6400/E6500 and some of the supplied kexts aren't necessary for M4400 users. Furthermore, it seems that research on these machines has been at a standstill for a while now, and there are bits that may be able to be improved. Here's my setup: Precision M4400 - BIOS Rev A29 • T9400 • Quadro FX 770M • OS X 10.9.4 • Chameleon build 2378 So far, I've found that the system continues to run properly after removing the following kexts from DaFOB's pack (thanks to wern apfel): Kext Reason AppleIntelIntegratedFrameBuffer M4400 does not employ integrated graphics DisableTurboBoostBattery Turboboost is a Core "i" series feature OSXRestart Restart works fine without it Patched_10.7_AppleRTC CMOS reset is not an issue VoodooSDHC Known to cause trouble and doesn't work anyway After removing these, my system is still completely stable and functional. In addition to this, AppleSmartBatteryManager (v1.3) can be updated to Rehabman's newer ACPIBatteryManager (v1.5) without issue. —————————————————— One thing that seems odd/unclear to me is the necessity of AppleACPIPlatform v1.3.5. Some people seem to be able to run with a vanilla version while others cannot boot without v1.3.5 (I cannot boot without it). What is the reasoning behind this? Also, there is a patched AppleHDA that makes for a promising replacement for VoodooHDA. However, I cannot seem to get it working, even though the pinouts and codecs match perfectly. I suspect this is due to the aforementioned use of a patched/rolled back AppleACPIPlatform, as other having similar trouble reports such problems. The kext is attached for anybody interested in trying their luck. Please note that you will have to adjust the HDEF layout ID in your DSDT to 0; the current value of 12 won't work with this kext. One last thing that I noticed is that with the modified FakeSMC supplied in DaFOB's pack is that its smc-compatible key should be set to smc-mcp instead of its current value of smc-napa in order to match up with the SMBIOS model of MacbookPro5,3. That said, I haven't seen much of a change after making this correction myself. AppleHDA IDT 92HD71B7 (E6400:E6500:M4400).zip
  3. Greetings all and thanks for all your excellent work here! I have succeeded with a 10.9.0 Mavericks install on my M4400 and eventually got sleep going but this was broken by the 10.9.4 Combo Update. Apple made a feature of improved sleep in promoting the update so obviously significant modifications have been made. Have any fixes emerged for this yet? My install method for 10.9.0: myHack installation with the Extras folder from here: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/2674-dell-e64006500m4400-mavericks-109-gm/?hl=m4400 (1/3 way down page) Removed AppleACPIPlatform kext from the Extras folder (this kext is already in the Sys folder), then ran full myFix Finally, changed the hibernate mode to 0. Wake from sleep only ever worked by pressing the power button rather than from any keyboard keys.
  4. Hello OSX latitude, I write this on my old mac book which currently has parts being sent UPS to repair, missing keys, etc. Knowing my macbook from early 2009 A1181 is near its death bed I've been looking for a new system, I came across http://www.dfsdirectsales.com/ a dealnews.com special coupon and the m4400 for a great deal. My ideal setup for my new system is mac os ( duhh im here n this site), linux (centOS,SciLinux or RedHat similar), and some version of windows ( 7 / 8 or xp?) System Basic Spec's Processor T9600 8Gb Hard Drive (using an old 320 right now/ 1Gb Seagate after a few test runs) Quadro FX 1700M 15.4 Screen DW1390 wifi card (replaced the intel card) So far my test was great I decided to keep things well documented. (& since my girlfriend also bought the m4400 to replace her cracked screen acer, and will want to follow my footsteps) So first things first new wifi card after seeing this post https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/2164-wifi-card-for-m4400/?hl=%2Bm4400+%2Bwifi about wifi card questions I purchased the DW1390 and instaled it in the WWAN slot on the notebook. Then I formatted the flash drive on the mac using disk utility (in reality I don't think you can format HFS+ on windows and IDK if linux allows it, Linux does so many file systems so I would guess it does) http://www.switchingtomac.com/tutorials/how-to-format-a-drive-or-partition-with-the-hfs-file-system/ helped guide me. Then I needed http://myhack.sojugarden.com/guide/ to get this cool app and follow the easy 5 steps outlines here https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1764-mountain-lion-on-e6400-in-5-steps so the current status is I have a 1gb hard drive partitioned in 3 ways and on the first partition I have os x 10.8 with very few issues. The installation claimed to fail and then when it rebooted it gave me the setup install and it seems to work great (IDK) when I do this again I vill do a verbose install next time and see what happened. this is the installation error I get . Install Failed: The installer could not start up the computer from the disk " but then it does boot from disk after a reboot. ? (i attached the installer log) Also my monitor only does 1280 x 800 until i do an software update and then get some other errors. Yes I ran a update to 10.8.5 with some errors but it still functioned, then I noticed the sleep / shutdown issue and screwed it all up trying to fix it so did a reinstall ( one of many i plan on doing ) current research ideas and issues i'm researching tri boots kext ??? osx 10.9 on m4400. (but a 5.2gb d/l i dont have space or time for right now) how to get correct video card (have Quadro FX 1700M shows Graphics Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M 512 MB) how to get correct processor showing (have T9600 2.8GHz shows 2.54), assume since i don't know about these kext and would have to edit them and not use them blindly. working pretty well on 10.8.5 Installer Log 28-Dec-2013.txt systeminfo.txt
