I've tried many a thing, but all to no avail. I've decided to try installing OS X 10.6 instead, according to these instructions again, simply with a different image and bootpack. However, when booting from it, it told me that "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this system" and instead offered me to recover from a Time Machine backup, or to restart. Are the instructions different when trying to install OS X 10.6?

do you have AppleACPIPlatform.kext version 1.3.5 in your Extra folder?
Here is the version.plist inside /Extra/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext/Contents/. It says version=1.0, but it also says 1.3.5. It seems like it's the correct one.
By the way, there's also an ExtraBackups folder on the stick. Does that sound correct?

Nope, no dice. I've disabled Wi-fi, then tried booting into the HDD using the USB stick, as well as completely reinstalling with wi-fi disabled and then booting into the HDD the same way, but it all results in the same error. It hangs at "Resetting IOCatalogue."

Can you check your CPU in the BIOS? You need a Core2Duo like U7600 or U7700 CPU as Lion does not support Core Solo or Core Duo CPUs. Also, make sure you do not have an Intel wireless card in that laptop. All will be listed in System Info page of the BIOS.
PS: CPUs are not interchangeable on the D420/430; they're soldered to the motherboard.
The processor type is Intel® Core2 Duo processor. The ID is 06FD. The Wi-Fi device is Intel Wireless, but that shouldn't be reason why the whole system can't install, right?

Well, I've updated the BIOS, but to no avail. I get exactly the same errors as last time.

Well, I don't have any problems with my 10.7.2 version that I then update to 10.7.5. Which Lion version are you installing?
It was a 10.7.4 image. I'll try installing 10.7.2.
what dell bios version are you at? latest dell bios?
I have bios version A07, released on 2008-5-16. The latest version is A09, released on 2010-1-22. I'll only flash my BIOS if everything else won't work. In case it's needed: the site doesn't list anything newer than Windows XP as a supported platform to run the .exe on. Would it be wise to install from Windows 7 or 8 anyway?
Also, just wondering: why exactly does the BIOS version matter?

Alright, I'm one step further, but still no dice. Here's what I did:
Here's the revised process with myHack 3.2 Beta8:
- download the bootpack to some specific place (where you'll find it afterwards). It'll automatically unzip as "Extra".
- using myHack 3.2, create your 10.7 installer on your USB key, pointing to your Lion app when prompted for it.
- after USB installer is created, re-run myHack and opt for "Create Extra", select "My own" and point to your downloaded boot pack "Extra" folder.
- download Chameleon Wizard, run it and let it update to the latest version 4.2.2 & relaunch. In Install tab, select Chameleon revision 2248 or above then select your USB installer as target partition and click on Install button.
- boot off your USB installer and install Lion. Towards the end, when prompted for Extra folder, choose "My own" and point to the "Extra" folder at the root of your USB installer.
- reboot off your USB installer but interrupt the startup and select your freshly installed Lion HDD partition. This will get you to 1st boot installation finalisation. If you have a Bluetooth module and it's enabled in BIOS, you're highly likely to get an error message about a lack of keyboard. That's because the system is looking for a BT keyboard/Trackpad. Either disable BT in BIOS or plug in a USB keyboard to get rid of this problem.
- Once you get to the desktop, download and install Chameleon Wizard as in step 4 above and update your Lion HDD partition to Chameleon revision 2248 or above. You'll then be able to boot it properly.
NB: Chameleon always kicks off the 1st HDD partition; as such, if you have multiple HDD partitions, make sure you update the correct partition to Cham r2248 or above as it may not necessarily be your Lion partition for instance.
Afterwards, follow the EDP process as detailed in my previous message.
Well, I got as far as point 6. In the Chameleon installer, I used the newest revision, not 2248, but it should be fine. The installation seemed to work as well, and it rebooted automatically, but when I tried to boot from the HDD using the Chameleon that was on the stick, it took a while and then I got the following errors:
It got stuck at nstat_lookup_entry_failed: 2 for quite a while before the last line appeared. It stayed stuck on that line. Anyone?

What are you using to create your USB installer? You wouldn't be using a Virtual Machine, would you?
Nope. I lent a friend's Macbook Air 4,2 to do this. Program-wise, I'm using myHack-3.2-BETA-8.dmg that was linked to.

Ok, the current bootpack has an issue (a major kext is missing).
Try this one, I've just tested it successfully with a default myHack 3.1.2 USB installer (i.e. default Cham boot loader).
It still isn't working for me. After the installer asks me if I want to remove certain modules that result in kernel panics, it continues for a few more minutes, then it says that the installer could not finish. I've tried it twice, and this is what happened both times. The first time, I installed the new bootpack you provided directly after doing what I said I did in the previous post, without formatting first. The second time, I started formatted the stick, created the USB installation disk, installed the extras from the new bootpack in your attachment, and booted from that directly without replacing Chameleon.
Here's the error log for the second try.
The log of the first try was corrupted and could not be recovered. Hopefully, this is enough. I'm going to retry tomorrow. Was I supposed to install the new version of Chameleon as well? And replace the boot file? In what order should I do things?

Download latest Chameleon from here: http://www.osx86.net/view/3856-chameleon-2.2svn-r2254.html and re-install on your HDD partition.
I reformatted the stick, then used myHack to make it a 10.7 installation device, then installed the bootloader using "Chameleon-2.2svn-r2254.pkg.zip" from the link you've provided, then I installed the extras using myHack again, and I booted from that. It resulted in the following screen:
After that, I've tried replacing the boot file with the one Leon provided on the same stick (without redoing any other steps), but it gave the same results.
-
Replacing the boot file is the same as updating chameleon? Because I have done that, and now it gets stuck at a gray window with a red-blue-green spinning disk at the top left corner of the screen. It takes about a minute to get there.
EDIT: what I've tried next is creating the installer using myHack, then replacing the boot file with the one you've provided, then installing the extras. This resulted in the following error immediately when booting from the USB stick:
boot0:GPT
boot0:done
boot1: error

Hello, I have tried installing OS X Lion (10.7) on my Latitude D430 following the regular instructions provided here. The file I used to prepare the USB stick with MyHack was "Mac OS X Install ESD.dmg". Additionally, I configured my BIOS according to these instructions. After installing the correct bootpack, I booted from the USB stick and I got the following errors:
Anyone got an idea?
D430 Kernel Panic because kexts fail to load

I did in fact use retail versions for 10.7 as well as 10.6. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
