    Brightness issue GMA950 d620

    Maybe interesting to know:

    The brightness issue is solved when starting/restarting.

    But when waking up from sleep in about 50% of the cases I get the brightness issue again.

    Also it's not possible anymore after that to adjust brightness via the keyboard.

    Restarting resolves the issue though.

    Lion on Dell d620

    Are you sure you have a C2D CPU? A lot of the D620 have a T2400 1,87GHz Core Duo CPU witch doesn't support Lion.

     

    Same here..

     

    My D620 running 10.6.6 rejects the Lion installer, saying it requires certain processors, including Intel Core2Duo (which it is).

     

    I tried doing all the hackwork on my real iMac using an external USB hard drive (has been my method for SnowLeopard-on-D620),

    then booting from the drive on the Dell...

     

    black screen

     

    Same result using EDP, multifail, MyHack or vanilla install + Extra

     

    Same result when I try my magic Extra folder that took me a month to perfect.

    (I am aware that Lion doesn't use mkext, so I use the boot cache string in com.chameleon.boot.plist).

     

     

    The main issue on my Dell was strangely always the GMA950 27A2 (strange, because it's the one used in MacBooks from the same period). In the end I think it was the efi string that fixed it, but also maybe in combo with many other combinations of kexts, boot.plist strings, DSDT, and a GMA950 ROM which I found in a dark corner of the internet.

     

    I've attached the Extra folder - it works like magic for that specific setup (D620 GMA950 27A2 + MacOS 10.6.6).

     

    Apart from someone maybe finding it useful, it may also give a clue about my Dell and why it won't accept Lion.

    EDP 1.9 Released

    No to be an asshole ... but 1.9 is for SL.. _not_ for Lion ;) .. that we are working on now...

     

    I know Leon. But since I have 2 laptops I though why not give it a try. And it's maybe interesting to know what works and what's broken with Lion ;)

    Oh, and fyi the USB problem is plaguing me since the very beginning I tried OSX on my latitude. And that's if I remember EDP 1.5 and SL 10.6.4.

    All in all I think Lion is pretty stable with EDP 1.9 although it's not made for it :D And very fast!

    EDP 1.9 is working here with Lion on a D620 with Intel GMA.

    Only got 2 little problems:

    -Internal Bluetooth isn't working in Lion. It worked in SL with EDP 1.8 though.

    For now I'm using an external USB dongle with my magic mouse.

    -If I put the laptop to sleep with a USB device installed(e.g. Bluetooth dongle) the usb port doesn't work anymore when waking up.

    Maybe this is an issue that's also preventing the internal bluetooth from working?

     

    I sometimes had the brightness issue but Leon's fix seems to work fine(replace AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext)

     

    I have tested it with 2GB and 4GB of ram. 2GB is slow after just opening a few programs. 4GB is actualy faster then Snow Leopard.

    Trackpad is working perfect with Voodoo Kext. Magic mouse is fabulous with the new gestures.

     

    Battery meter keeps saying battery needs service but battery life is actually a bit better than with SL('bout 2h45m vs 2h30m).

    Maybe this new speedstep emulating thing is the reason because the laptop is also staying cooler.

     

    For the rest very impressed with Lion though I have seen some minor bugs witch are according to me not hackintosh related(1KP and a few Safari crashes).

    Oh and I installed Lion via the method described on the tonycrapx86 website. And the € 23,99 was well worth it for Lion.

    Upgrade D620 Core Duo to Core 2 Duo?

    Indeed, very neat. I'm very impressed by how much more speed I get. It's by far the best upgrade I gave my D620.

     

    I also like to praise the build quality of this laptop. It's always a pleasure to work on. Very easy and fast.

    I've made a lot of upgrades on this machine and always loved to work on it. Quality is on par with alu powerbook/macbook pro from Apple.

    Things I've upgraded so far:

    -1x1GB to 1x1GB RAM and a year later to 2x2GB RAM

    -Glossy screen to matte screen

    -3 hard disk upgrades

    -new wifi card

    -CD burner replaced with DVD Dual Layer burner

    -new bluetooth card

    -new inverter board for the lcd

    -new CPU

     

    I can recommend the CPU upgrade to everyone witch still has a Core Duo. Also a 7200rpm hard disk makes a big speed difference.

    Upgrade D620 Core Duo to Core 2 Duo?

    I've installed a new CPU this afternoon. On eBay I have found a T7200 for 30 euros.

    The install took me only 45min and I have immediately experienced a much faster computer.

    Old CPU: T2400 Core Duo 1,8Ghz 2MB cache x32

    New CPU: T7200 Core 2 Duo 2Ghz 4MB cache x64

     

    I have used artic silver on the new processor and despite the higher TDP of the new CPU the laptop doesn't feel any hotter.

    During the swap I've made some pictures so I'll maybe post a tutorial in the future.

     

    I have booted in i386 and everything works like it did and I have 64bit support.

    Dell D620 Automator Startup Script

    Hi everyone,

     

    I'd like to contribute something I've made for myself to the community. But first a little background.

    I'm using a D620 with Intel GMA graphics an SL 10.6.7. I run the trackpad driver with logging on because that is the one that works best for my trackpad. I also run GMABooster to make my graphics performance a little better(I clock to 400MHz). Because of these 2 reasons I have to do two things after start up/restart. Disable logging from the trackpad driver so that it doesn't consume all resources and run GMABooster because it looses it's settings after reboot.

     

    I recently made an automator script to make my life a little easier. It automatically ask to start 2 terminal screens to set everything up. The first one is for GMABooster. Just put in the desired speed press return and type in your admin password twice. The second is for disabling logging. Just type in your admin password and press return to deactivate logging. After that press OK on the popup screen and everything closes automatically.

     

    How to install:

    -Open the dmg

    -Install Chud from the Chug.dmg file

    -Copy the file "D620 Startup Scripts" and the folder "GMABoosterX_CLI_09a" to your Utilities folder

    -Goto System Preferences->Accounts->Your Account->Login Items and add D620 Startup Scripts to the list

    -All set! The next time you login a popup screen will ask if you want to run the startup script.

     

    Feel free to comment and/or modify the script as you like.

    Good to hear.. 1.8 will be even better :)

     

    Glad to hear :-) I also hope that 1.8 will fix the only minor problem that's left on my D620.

    When a usb device is connected when I put the laptop in stand-by(closing the lid) the USB port doesn't work anymore when I wakeup the laptop afterwards.

    It's only a minor problem 'cause if nothing's connected everything is fine after waking up. I only have to remind myself to unplug anything from the USB when closing the lid.

    Updated yesterday and it works great. Also powerpack works great and keeps my D620 much cooler whereas the powerpack in EDP 1.6 gave my frequent kernel panics. After installation I updated with the 10.6.7 combo update and everything works like a dream.

     

    Also the problem I had with my battery in 1.6 is gone. In 1.6 it showed me 2 batteries witch resulted in double the battery life than I actually had. Now with 1.7 it's OK again and showing me only 1 battery.

    Yes, osx supports x64 and works great .. go ahead and upgrade.. i have done it on alot of D620'ish..

     

    Do I have to do anything special after the upgrade or will OSX recognize the new CPU and automatically boot in 64bit?

    I'm asking this because OSX sees my current CPU as a Core 2 Duo but I can't install the 64bit lightroom so it's definitely 32bit now.

    I'm currently having a Core Duo T2400 CPU in my Latitude D620 hackintosh.

    It has a 1,83GHz clockspeed 2MB cache and a 667MHz FSB. According to the service manual from Dell it's a socket M processor and upgradable.

    From what I know this is a 32bit processor while the Core 2 Duo is a 64bit processor.

     

    On ebay I saw some cheap T7200 Core 2 Duo CPU's.

    These are 2GHz clockspeed 4MB cache and also 667MHz FSB. Since my Intel GMA950 supports up to 667MHz FSB and it's also a Socket M I think it'll fit.

    I think my laptop will then be 64bit capable and fully support my 4GB's of RAM.

     

    My only question is: Does OSX on a hackintosh support 64bit and how do I let it boot in 64bit. Is it automatically selected or do I have to change Chameleon's settings? Or is 64bit only possible with a complete reinstall?

     

    64bit would really help me because it makes Lightroom much faster for RAW editing.
