  1. Hello All! i compiled a list of my top 5 don'ts when building a hackintosh. I will add to this post as my knowledge widens

    Dont's

    1. NEVER EVER randomly install a kext that you do know anything about. This could be an audio, video, Ethernet, or graphics Kext. Always look for user feedback or build a backup machine

    2. NEVER update your mac to a system update(for example 10.8.3) provided from Apple until the hackintosh developers give you the all clear. System updatesmay cause kernel panics and you might have to reformat your drive. You will loose all data unless you created a back up

    3. Do NOT install random bootloaders unless you absolutely have to. Different bootloaders come with different flags which may lead to an unbootable system

    4. Do NOT use a hacked distribution of OSX from tormenting websites. You are bound to run into errors of all sorts such as the "unknown error" error when signing into the app store or icloud or you may experience graphical glitches with your gfx card

    5. Try not to experiment with your system files unless you know what you are doing. For example, adding flags to your bootloader or editing a plis file.

  2. Yes, I have a working installation. Problem is I can't get my native resolution[with a clean chameleon], Ethernet or sound to work. The keyboard and trackpad also does not work. But for those I used a USB Keyboard and mouse. I used Myhack to install Chameleon but it installed an old version for some reason. My battery died mid-way while installing 10.6 on my usb which corrupted the entire system. I'll try the command you suggested and report back. Thank You Conti!

  3. Update 1: December 11 2012 5:56PM EST- I tried to remove the files using rm -f with no luck. Either that or the file was not deleted. I used the flag "-s" at bootup and used the terminal at the Snow Leopard installation screen. I also used the flags that you told me to use. The problem still exists. The preboot also cannot be opened with PowerISO

Update 2: I removed the files you told me to but I the bootloader was not able to boot to the Install DVD. Any alternatives?

  4. i came across this problem after successfully installing OSX 10.6.3. As you can see in the video, the system boots fine but sleeps after the apple logo. This is after the reboot from the installation successful screen and booting into the desktop. I will say that it is a hit or miss that when i press my power button the screen turns on. I also will say that I had a successful install before with my native res but with no ethernet and sound. Restart and shutdown worked. The problem was that i didn't have access to another computer so i had to reinstall Windows 7, get the files and try again. After my second attempt, I ran the myfix app(full fix) and installed chamelon. This unfortanetly broke some working features. The resolution resorted back to 1024x768x32. I tried running mutibeast(big mistake) which crashed and crippled the system. I tried a ton of flags. I'll list them below

    1. busratio=20 cpus=1 -v -x -f

    2. GraphicsEnabler=No/Yes

    3. USBBusFix=No/Yes

    4. -x

    5. -f

    6. PciRoot=1

    7. PCIRootUID=0

    8. no flags

sorry for the upside down video.

    Thank You!

Note thie is a retail installlation

I used this bootloader with some preinstalled items[File reuploaded to Skydrive]

    Dell XPS m1330 [2008]

  5. The boot loader does matter. I loaded chameleon on a cd and was able to get to the welcome screen but with no keyboard and mouse support. I think the fix for this is to use a USB keyboard and mouse. I can also confirm that tonycrap's I software is complete shit. Thank you!

Edit the installation was successful! Only problem was I didn't ave the my hack file. Doing a second attempt now

  6. Hey Conti!

Today I decided to try and install OSX on my Dell XPS m1330 laptop. I posted the specs in another post but for reference i'll repost them here. Here is what happens. After entering the flags "busratio=20 cpus=1 -v -x -f", the system goes through the usual loading kexts thing and then the last line i think is "systemShutdown false". After that it flashes a greyish white screen. My laptop display then turns off and dies. This is similar to what happened when i tried to fix the mac app store problem. My computer would restart and sleep. Do you know a fix for this? I am using the retail 10.6.3 disc from apple. Thank You!

Let me know if you need more information. Here are my specs

  7. hey Conti! While trying to install OSX 10.5.2 [in order to use myhack], This message was spammed across my screen:

"USB NOTIFICATION: THE DEVICE "EHCI" root Hub stimulation @ 0xfa000000 has caused an over... issue..." I used Empire EFI for the bootloader. Let me know if you need more information

  8. From my personal experience, this flag works in [most] cases. I call it the golden flag:

    busratio = 20 cpus=1 -v -f -x

Make sure you press F8 at boot and use the bootloader EmpireEFI.

The -f flag for me fixes my frozen desktop.

The -v flag boots into verbose mode, so you can easily diagnose kernel panics

The -x flag boots into single user/safe mode.

Let me now if the flag works and Good Luck!

  9. I forgot to append my system specs to my introduction. i have no intention of spamming or double posting.

Hi! My name is Timothy and i am from the United States of America

I used a hackint0sh for about 3 weeks (from Mid to end of August)

My experience with hackint0sh was faily stressful. i had to do countless copying of 4.7gb files on a slow system. Each transfer took about half an hour. The first installation method I tried was with Leohazard. I believe that was for OSX version 10.6.x. I was able to get a system up and running but with the exception of my graphics card. I couldn't get a 1920x1080p resolution. My second attempt was with tony mac's method. Once again, I had countless failures and spent several days trying to resolve my problems. Apprantely, the Radeon 5450 card was a crappy one and no one supported or tested it. Finally, I came across myhack. I had a successful installation within the FIRST installation. I was very happy that I didn't have to go through all the stress. I was able to go from 10.6 to 10.7 to 10.8 FLAWLESSlY. Here I am now, writing this post :)

All my friends had macs and i know that macs generally perform better than Windows. I love that it is Unix based so coming from a Linux background, I fit in perfectly. I also Love the software apple had. I am a big fan of the dock too. I love the theme apple has.

I have a pretty strong understanding on computers, how they work and even how to write software. At the moment, I'm reading a book on python with qt. I plan to major in comp sci too.

Thank You for reading my introduction! You have my support Conti!
