I was able to get in with MyHack and then reinstalled EDP and Chameleon. All is good now. Thank you so much for the help

If I just need to run disk utility, can I just boot up on my original installation CD and run it, then back out of the installation ? Would it mess up Chameleon or existing SL? If there is a risk, I will just go the MyHack USB route. I have no clue why I am getting the Voodoo error.

Thank you very much. I actually just tried -x for safe mode. The progress bar went about 25% and stopped. So I then tried -v. The last thing showing was about executing fsck. I got " volume is journaled so no checking performed" then " use -f option to force checking". I took a picture and will try to post it. I tried the -f but just got the spinning wheel again. I will try the -s option as well. If I can't get it figured out, I will go the MyHack usb route since I don't have it installed on my partition. The re-install option makes me nervous. I have a complete disk image that I can restore, but it is about 6 months old.

I have an old D620 that is setup triple booting 10.6.8, Ubuntu 12.04 and Win7. I used a empireEFI CD to install snow leopard and then used EDP 1.9 to install the kexts and Chameleon. After that I upgraded from 10.6.3 (my install CD version) to 10.6.8. I then installed to other operating systems. It has worked well for a couple of years now. The other day my snow leopard stopped booting. I get the gray screen and spinning wheel forever. The other operating systems still boot just fine. I feel if I can boot into my existing snow leopard, I can run EDP again and fix everything. The problem is that the empireEFI CD only works for 10.6.3 and older so I can't use it since I am on 10.6.8. I think myHack with the D620 bootpack should be able to get me in there, but I don't know if it has that option. It seems to be only for installation. I use could use some help. I don't want to wipe it and start all over. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I got it installed with empireEFIv1085 and then ran EDP and it worked like a charm. Really appreciate all the help.

Thanks Bronxteck, Here's my progress or lack there of. After reading on this site, I decided to not use the iboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded)/multifail route. What I thought I could do was use D620slv1.iso to start the installation, then use EDP to install the correct kexts. I didn't plan on trying t upgrade to 10.6.8 due to all the issues I heard. I would like to have the newest version running perfectly, but just seems like a lot of bugs to work out. Anyway, I slapped the d620slv1.iso disk in and booted up, put my SL install disk in and it booted. However, it just went to the gray screen with the pinwheel..........and sat there. After 40 minutes I decided to try iboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded). I booted up the SL install disk again. the mouse did not work correctly. I stuck in a USB mouse and a blue tooth mouse but they didn't work well either. I managed to partition the disks I wanted, and install SL. During the install,the screen went blank(screensaver) but I could never get it back. I rebooted on iboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) and got into SL, but the mouse didn't work, no sound and the graphics were choppy. I rebooted again but this time on d620slv1.iso. I got sound, but got stuck at the gray screen with the pinwheel. So I am wiping the whole drive and starting over. I really liked the bootup interface of the d620slv1 over iboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded). I saw that Leppy also made a d620630sl.iso . I tried to find a valid link to download, but no such luck, just 7 google pages of BS. So i decided to download and follow the wiki of this site. I hit the SLD430USB torrent, but only 2 sources so it says 8 days to download. So I plan on following the game plan from this site. I am sure the admins are chuckling. Would really appreciate any help.

Bronxteck, I see you are the kext admin. Could you tell me which kexts I should have installed for my configuration ? That would be a big help. Or would the EDP put all the right kexts for me ?

Thank you very much for the kind words. I think all of us that are trying all this stuff love to learn and accomplish things out of the normal realm. I went to the wiki, but don't know exactly where you were directing me. I did read about EDP. It seems to be an automated way to install all the kexts I need for the D620. So if anyone can expand on this, I would sure appreciate it.

I am asking the good, super smart people of this site for your help. I am going to try to install a triple boot setup of snow leopard, ubuntu, and win7 on my dell D620. I have research this pretty well, and want some input before I dive into it. I current run a duel boot with ubuntu and win7. I have experience with quite a few linux distros, but none with Osx. My computer specs are as follows: Intel T7400 2.2 ghz core2 4gb of ram Broadcom netxtreme BCM5752 gigabit ethernet nVida Quadro NVS 110M/Geforce go 7300 Intel N10/ICH 7 HDA audio controller BIOS is A10 (latest) I currently have an Intel 4965 wireless card, but read that it doesn't play nice, so I plan on replacing it with a Dell DW1500 (broadcom) that I read does work well. I also have a DW1490, but would rather try the DW1500 since it works on N networks. Will the DW1500 work fine ? I want to go the iboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) & multifail route, but read where on the D620 the installation stalls with iboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded). Some people have tried iboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) Legacy but it seems to stall as well. HOWEVER, I don't know that this is true with my configuration. Can anyone shine some light on this ? I have read that D620SLV1.iso does work, but could I still use multifail ? Both D620slv1.iso and iboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) seem to be based on Chameleon bootloader. So I hope if iboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) can't work that multifail and D620slv1.iso are compatible. But as soon as you do the 10.6.8 update, you have issues and have to go back and install old kext versions. Seems like every update since 10.6.3 causes issues. I ordered the snow leopard DVD from Apple and was worried it would be the 10.6.8 version. But when I received it this week, it was 10.6.3. So......Do I need to run the update and risk screwing things up ? What would I be missing if I just stayed with 10.6.3 ? The instruction say run the update and don't reboot, then run multifail. If I don't run the update, can I run multifail anytime ? I do not know anything about kext. It appears to be a script that acts as a driver. Also during the install, do I get to pick 64 bit or not ? Because I have noticed that some of the kexts are for 64bit and some aren't. I found this site which is supposed to have a package with all the D620 kexts. But D620's are all different, some have Intel graphics, and some have nVidia. I guess I need to just pick and choose. I was going to use snow leopard to make the other partitions, but I read where it will only make 4 partitions. A hidden boot partition and one for Osx, ubuntu, and Win7. However I want to create one more partition for media storage that all the OS's can share to save disk space. So to make the partitions after snow leopard is installed on the whole disk, I plan on using gparted to make the other partitions and format them as needed. Any foreseeable problems using gparted ? The D620 is a great business class laptop that you can get for a couple hundred bucks. I have 4 of them. Hopefully this post will help some other people wanting to create a Hackintosh on a Dell D620.
