Okay, got it working...wifi, trackpad, sound, ethernet...all seems good. Only remaining problems found so far are that the Activity Monitor kernel panics the system as soon as you launch it, and the system kernel panics coming out of sleep. I've repaired permissions, which has fixed the Activity Monitor problem in the past, but no joy. I've turned off secure virtual memory, set System passwords on the BIOS and done the other steps to disable hibernation...the system goes into sleep properly, and the screen is coming on when it comes out of sleep, but it blue screenspanics almost immediately after that. Ideas? Scott

I already have a Mac and a retail Snow Leopard DVD (Family Pack, I'm not even exceeding the number of allowed installations), so I'm not thrilled about the idea of downloading an unofficial build. The EDP already has the kext for the Broadcom wifi, I thought...if it isn't already baked into the SL installation. I was using the latest 1.9.x EDP. I've tried both the Chameleon bundled with the EDP and the latest downloaded Chameleon from their site. Appreciate the help, but that's not getting me much of anywhere. Scott

Hi! I'm reinstalling Snow Leopard on my D820 (Intel video, Broadcom WiFi, 2.1 GHz C2D, 4 GB RAM)...the new installation method is confusing me, though. I'm not certain which Bootpack/EDP/Chameleon I need...it's behaving much worse then the first time I went through this with the older installation method. Specifically, the trackpad is nearly unusable, WiFi appears but never sees any networks, Ethernet LAN doesn't appear at all, and installing EDP and configuring seems to leave the system in a state where all I get is panics when booting. Can anyone give me a short set of "Download THESE specific items and run them in THIS order" instructions? I'm not stupid and have worked in IT for ages...and part of what I have learned over the years is to not beat my head against a wall when someone else may have the answer. Thanks in advance! Scott

Well, that didn't do anything for me, and it took a few reinstalls to get all the magic incantations in the right order (my fault, not yours), but I'm up and running. Posting this from my D820 via WiFi and running on battery with an estimated 3:35 remaining battery life. W00t! Thanks again. Scott

Hmm...got my 1490 card in the mail today. Installed it, booted into OS X, no card showing up in Network prefs. Rebooted ignoring caches (which I had read somewhere was the magic incantation needed...card showed up and connected to my WPA2 network. Yay. Rebooted several times since then...card is not showing as installed. Do I need to wipe the machine and start over, or am I missing something? Scott

Bummer. I didn't see any information about it in System Profiler, so I wasn't particularly hopeful. Thanks anyway...this was all actually relatively painless, compared to some other things I've tried. You guys do good work! Scott

Dude...you are GOOD. Worked perfectly. System running on both cores, 1.25% User, 2.5% System, 96% Idle. PStateMenu is probably the biggest consumer of CPU, but it's ticking along just fine. Since you're batting 100%, do you know if the PCMCIA slot should function? I'm half-tempted to get an RME audio interface and run Logic or Pro Tools on it for portable recording. Firewire shows up okay in System Profiler, so I could fall back to a Firewire or USB interface if PCMCIA doesn't work. Scott

Whoops, spoke too soon. Sleep is working fine (after setting a System password in BIOS), but Activity Monitor crashes the system with the darkened screen and the multi-language "Power me off and back on" message. Can that be worked around, or is it just a "no go"? I was mostly just trying to check if both cores were working. Scott EDIT: Just picked up a DW1490 wifi card on eBay for $6 with free shipping and 30-day guarantee. Can't beat that with a stick!

Woo! I think that did it. I noticed that if you install Chameleon from EDP, it actually nukes (moves) the /Extra directory. After that, I REINSTALLED EDP, then reconfigured the kexts. Booted beautifully. I thought I didn't have network access (Safari didn't work), but when I went into Network preferences for the first time, it identified a new Ethernet adapter and configured it. Works a treat. Now I just need to find a wireless card on fleabay and start testing out sleep, etc. Thanks, thanks, thanks! Scott

Could be...I didn't take any action to NOT boot 64-bit. I followed the instructions precisely...which didn't mention anything about it. I'll try again when I get home. Scott

What about the wired LAN adapter? It's not showing up either. Should I use the Chameleon (RC5) that is downloadable directly from the site, or use the newer version that can be installed from "Tools" in the EDP? The newer one shows me a lot of options, including the default resolution change and an option that appears to be to enable "built-in" ethernet. I can buy a Broadcom wifi card, no biggie (assuming I can physically swap it out). Scott

Booted from USB and installed OS X Rebooted Booted from USB -> Hard disk Installed EDP 1.9.2 Ran /Extras/edptool.command Chose D820-Intel Chose apple trackpad/keyboard Chose NullCPU Chose SleepEnabler Chose Virtual Speedstep (or whatever it was called...) Installed Chameleon Installed 10.6.8 Combo Update Rebooted. There is no network device in the list in the network pref pane, and if I try to add it, there is no ethernet adapter shown. Mouse (trackpad) appears to work, but keyboard does not. If I plug in a USB keyboard/mouse, those work fine. Also, video aspect ratio seems to be off...the only resolution shown is 1280 x 1024 instead of the 1680 x 1050 that it's capable of. Machine is on A07 bios, with 4GB RAM (3.3-ish GB available) When I booted from USB->Hard disk the first time, the video and keyboard were fine, even if the network wasn't there yet. Ideas? Scott
