  1. if it's x3100 gma graphics it also happens to real macs with that graphics card. you should also watch your temps the fans might be clogged or need new thermal past on your cpu and or gpu

Thanks for that info.  It was starting to seem like it was "heat" related, even though it would crash even when temps (shown via temperature monitor lite) were only in the 70's.  Although the unit did feel hot which appeared mainly to be from the memory chips (2x2GB). ?? I checked the fan and it's clear.  I've stopped using it for now.  Going to try an installation ML later in the year.

  2. I'm interested where this leads as I have the same issue on my Dell D630 Intel 1440x900 OSX 10.7.5 system.  It randomly crashes (ie. KP).  Seems to do it after I've been using the system for a couple hours.

  3. Here's my experience with Sleep:

    1) D630, GMA graphics, BIOS A17: no BIOS password required, BIOS USB-wake can be enabled without impact

    2) D630, nVidia graphics, BIOS A17: no BIOS password required, BIOS USB-wake can be enabled without impact

    3) D620, nVidia graphics, BIOS A10: no password required, BIOS USB-wake must be disabled or Sleep will not be operational (immediate wake upon going to sleep).

I enabled the USB-Wake in the Bios, did a repair permissions via Disk Utility and no luck. As soon as I put the system into sleep it wakes up. My D630 must be "special". :)

  4. I have one and it works fantastic! I can leave my mouse plugged in, close the lid and when I resume the next day the mouse has power. When coming out of sleep and when not using a dock, the mouse has to be unplugged and plugged in again for the system to recognize it.

I haven't tested the video though.

  5. I'd like to offer my 2 cents with my regards to OSX 10.7.4 on my Intel D630...

I had to set the timed sleep to "never" for sleep to work at all (otherwise BIOS reset issue).

I didn't need a bios/system password of for sleep to resume properly.

Close lid or initiation of sleep via menu or power button works every time.

By using a Dell dock it allows all plugged-in USB devices to wake when the system is resumed from sleep (obviously only good when it's plugged in).

Enabling the USB-Wake-Support in the BIOS makes it so the system never sleeps, so I had to turn it off.

    Hope this helps.

  6. So, this morning I reran EDP and set PS2 to #2 and Audio to #2 with the rest of the options as same as the predefined.

Also, and I think this might be related, is that I turned off sleep in the Energy Prefs pane. I closed the lid and went to work. Came back and was prompted with login to OSX. Saweet!!!

Not sure what I did to make it work. But sleep seems to be ok, with the one exception that I had to turn off auto sleep.

The only issue is that my usb mouse does not work after it resumes. :( Almost there.

Any ideas / thoughts on all this?

  7. Update:

So I decided to redo the installation but using EDP 3.0 this time. I installed Lion via the MyHack USB installation method. Added support for my wifi card and then installed and ran EDP 3.0.

I only have one issue remaining now... Sleep. Again.

"Short term sleep", as I like to refer to it, works great. What I mean by this is, if I close the load or hit Fn-Esc to put the D630 to sleep and then resume in under a minute or so, the system resumes without issue. Works great.

However, if I do the same but let it sit in sleep mode for, let's say, 10 mins or so. After opening the lid or hitting power button (if I've done a Fn-Esc) the system appears to resume, but immediately powers off. Then I have the dreaded BIOS reset issue upon power up.

I've tried the "preset" configuration from EDP as well as trying different ones as well. I even setup a BIOS System Password and set the password bypass on. Nothing seems to fix it.

Anyone have any ideas. My D630 specs are in the OP. Thanks!

  8. Thanks for the suggestions, I installed VoodooBattery.kext which fixed battery and power status on Tuesday.

I had previously installed sleepenabler.kext which I downloaded from another "10.7.4 on D630" thread. That did not fix sleep (got the bios reset issue).

To answer your last question; I did not run myFix Full after installing the EDP the last time I tried it. Right now, sleep is my only remaining problem and don't want to risk it and have to do another install.

I'm making do with the default trackpad driver which is not bad as it has scroll just not what I'm used to.

  9. Since I was unable get to SL to install on my Dell I thought I'd have a go at installing Lion. Well, to make a long story short it worked great. I have a near-perfect/near-complete installation (after many many many attempts though).

    My specs are:

Dell Latitude D630 with Intel Core 2 Duo (T9300)

    4GB, 160GB HD

    1440x900 LCD

    Intel 965 Video

    Dell 1395 Wifi card

    Fingerprint reader

    Dell A17 Bios

    Working:

    1440x900

    Ethernet

    WIFI (via IO80211Family.kext)

    Audio (via VoodooHDA 2.7.3)

    Not Working:

    Sleep

    Power / Battery status

    Trackpad scrolling

Update to 10.7.4 combo update was successful. No issues.

    Subsequent updates also good.

I did not use an EDP as it was causing a KP. I have an almost complete write up of my process which I will post, as soon as I get these last few issues sorted.

I'm kinda scared to try putting in kexts in fear of the wrong ones that might cause a KP and render my installation useless (again). If someone has the same spec as mine, can you tell me which is the correct kext to download for sleep and battery status to work.

    Much appreciated. TIA.

  10. So. I gave up on running SL on the D630. But I have had partial success with Lion 10.7 on it.

Using the MyHack method and modified /Extra files I'm able to install and boot into a 10.7 OSX. However, if I run EDP 2.2 and reboot I get a black screen. I don't have access to an external screen at the moment either.

So my latest installation is not using EDP 2.2, but of course then I have no sound, a jerky trackpad, no wifi and no sleep.

    What to do? TIA.

  11. I'm trying to install Snow Leopard 10.6.3 (Retail Disc) to a D630, T9300, Intel 965 Video, Dell 1395 Wifi.

I can get a vanilla install using MyHack 3.1 to install but no wifi or ethernet. When I then install EDP 1.9.2 and run the edptool it causes the "please restart your system" after reboot.

So, next I tried to update the USB installer with a D630-Intel-Video bootpack. That kernel panics after IntelCPUMonitor and FakeSMC.

Can someone please tell me what are the correct files and/or sequence I should be running.

    TIA. Tman.
