I've just started with using the Mac OS X operating system and I am very pleasently suprised with the results!
It went much easier than anticipated and the results are staggering.
I wanted to try out OS X for use with graphics programs like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Cinema 4D for graphic design and Cubase 6 for audio production. Everyone that uses official MacBook Pro's say the workflow is much better in OS X, so i wanted to try it out. The costs of a decent MacBook or iMac with the specs i need (and want) are pretty expensive, so a "trial" seems to bee the right option for me But let's move on.
I use a Dell Latitude E6510 with the following specs:
Processor: Intel Core i7 1.87Ghz
Memory: 6GB 1330 Mhz DDR3
Graphics: Dell NVS 3100M 512MB
SSD: OCZ Vertex 3 120Gb
I've tried a variety of installations and the one that works for me was the Niresh install.
At the moment I use OS X Mavericks 10.9, but i'm planning to upgrade the system to El Capitan when possible, as I heard that it has some great improvements.
But for now i'm testing the programs I will use most oftenly, and need a good performance for that.
At the moment i'm not there yet and I need some help and clarification.
Everything works except:
- Integrated WiFi; I have a Intel based WiFi chip that doesn't work with OSX. I ordered a D-Link WiFi stick that has support, so this will be fixed in a few days.
- Battery information; This is not being displayed, atlhough i've installed VoodooBattery.kext.
- Mac Pro; the system is displayed as a Mac Pro instead of a MacBook Pro. The last would be better in my opinion because it's a laptop. Is there any way to change this? Does it need to be changed to use battery information?
- Power Management; the laptop is getting pretty hot and I don' t think it will last long this way.
- Graphics: The system recognizes the NVS3100m graphics card, and i can use the display port to connect it to my external screen without loss of quality, but playing a simple game like (example) Faster Than Light results in a lot of stutting. I use Steam for this game. As games are fun, this system is not intended to play games, I use another system for that
I've searched the web and this forum offcourse but haven't come to a solution yet.
Any help is much appreciated!
And if you need extra information, please let me know.
