Oh, so it’s not like previous versions where the Latitude screen comes up and I hit the space bar and it gives me a choice of which I boot? I see see but that’s not obvious because if I use the same Enoch with 10.11 I get a menu. Well I’ll if that’s it then thanks. Told you I was an idiot...

Okay so I used El Cap Extra folder on Sierra usb then replaced smbios with 7,1 from 10.12 bootpack along with fakesmc and usbinject and it will now let me install Sierra. Keep in in mind I am using Sierra install usb with the Extra folder from 10.11 bootpack. The 10.12 bootpack will not offer a startup menu. It goes right into boot and I cannot enter any boot flags. I don’t get it

No as I said above when I use the Extra from 10.12 bootpack there is no startup menu on either usb or hdd after installing. It’s only after I replaced the Extra with the one from 10.11 bootpack do I get a menu.

Does that mean I replace those two in the Extra/Extensions on the usb? I’m getting beyond my experience level now. Is there really a problem with 10.12 bootpack and is El Cap bootpack ok to use instead? El Cap kexts?

Waiting for root device. I tried removing it then plugging it back in but to no avail. Tried USBBusFix=Yes also. I notice that when I change smbios to 7,1 in El Cap and Sierra the plug in usb mouse doesn’t work

    D630 Sierra

Hello again, well after much troubleshooting I have discovered that there seems to be a problem with d630 10.12 bootpack Extra folder. I was able to install fresh using the upgrade route after updating Enoch on El Cap. Problem was that after accomplishing this it was right back to no startup menu to use boot flags and since I can’t use flags no startup. So I got the idea to try the El Cap Extra since I was able to boot up Sierra startup with El Cap install usb. With the El Cap Extra folder on Sierra usb I get the startup menu. To be sure I then replaced it with the Sierra boot pack extra folder and no go. Weird huh? Edit: Needless to say, it will not let me install Sierra because smbios says it’s MBP 5,1 but when I use the one from 10.12 Extra making it 7,1 it hangs.

Yeah that's something different for this install isn't it? This is probably it. I better read the guide again thoroughly. Thanks

You have and thank you very much. As I said I don't know what I'm doing this time that is different. I actually remade the El Cap usb to see what I did wrong and it came out fine. The only difference that I noticed was the Enoch version creates an Extra folder on the usb unlike the previous version. At least that's what happened to me. I have reread your guide over and over thinking I missed something for Sierra different than the others. I have to change the board because of graphics failure. I've baked it once and heat gunned it once. Both times it failed again though the board temp remained quite low. Found a seller on eBay with brand new boards for sale. So I'll get to it within the next couple days. I'm currently using my backup, a Presario V3000 with Mavericks and Mac Mini GMA950 drivers. Basically creating the usb has been the problem. It panics or I don't get a menu. Will keep at it. Again, thanks very much for all your work for us who aren't up to the task.

Ok thanks I will replace. I used the one at the beginning. It's been a few weeks since I tried and if I remember correctly there wasn't a startup menu giving me a choice and which if any flags to enter. I will give it another go... Thanks Again

    D630 Sierra

I know that this is an old subject but it's where I am currently at. Maybe I'm an idiot but I've had no problems installing Mavericks to El Cap on this D630 but not Sierra. I've read almost anything that I can find but obviously I'm missing something. My problem seems to be when I install Enoch it creates an Extra folder which I didn't notice with other installs. So now do I replace, merge, or keep the Extra folder with with the Bootpack Extra. Different results but none want to properly boot. Thanks
