  1. I have two D430's with 10.6.7, the install for both went great. I used EDP1.8 on both, but on one of them I've lost Airport and Bluetooth after the update to 10.6.7. They were working fine before the update. Airport disappeared immediately. System says that no Airport is installed. Bluetooth worked at first, but now after waking the computer from sleep, I've lost Bluetooth too; it hasn't come back after rebooting. (I used sleep as per instructions here, re. Bios system password.) I've tried the IOPCI Family kext referred to from the insanelymac website, but it didn't fix the Airport issue. The wifi card is a Dell 1390. Is my best bet to rebrand it as an Airport card? Any suggestions for Bluetooth? I haven't gotten around to updating the Bios, which is still at A00. Could that be part of the problem too?
  2. Thanks. The wiki seems to describe how to install Windows 7 only after you've already got OSX installed on your Latitude. As I have to partition my hard disk anyway, I was asking if it's better or easier to format the HD into 2 partitions and install OSX and Win7 separately on their own partitions.
  3. I am about to set up a D430 with Snow Leopard and I would also like to install Windows 7. I've read the guide for the dual boot setup, which assumes you already have Snow Leo installed. Would it be possible / better to format the hard disk in 2 partitions and install Windows 7 directly onto its own partition? I have a 120GB hard drive, so space is not a problem.
  4. Will do. I've got a couple of other people interested in installing 10.6 on Dell D430s, so now I'll be able to walk them through it.
  5. Great stuff. Didn't know that the new EDP 1.7 installation also removed the previous extensions. Fantastic work by you guys. I tried VoodooPS2Controller but still no trackpad or mouse. Then I tried Slice and it's working fine! One-finger scrolling along the right edge of the trackpad, which is the same as I had under Windows for the Latitude. Scrolling is very sensitive, so I've got it set to the 2nd slowest speed level, and it's now very usable. Tap for click works well too. Once again, many thanks for the outstanding work.
  6. Update on installing 10.6.7 on my first D430. As per above, it went great. Many thanks re. the tips on installing EDP 1.7. From EDP 1.7, I selected the Apple PS2 Controller, but upon reboot I can't use the Trackpad or Mouse preferences. They say no TP or Mouse is installed and they look for Bluetooth ones. I'd like to try the VoodooPS2Controller. To do so, do I have to follow the procedure under How to do a new build? Do I backup the present config to /Extra/Custom and then run EDP 1.7 again, only this time select VoodooPS2Controller? And then if everything works okay on reboot, can I then safely trash the backed up Extra folder?
  7. Thanks for the info. Will try later today. I also wanted to ask about the BIOS. I have another D430 and am about to install Snow Leopard, but I just saw that the current Bios is A00 (double zero). Should I update the Bios before installing Snow Leopard? What is the latest or best Bios to install? Can you update the Bios without a PC and floppy drive? Thanks.
  8. Thanks for the tip re. Leppy's install method, which I just had to use to get my D430 up and running. I'd previously installed Snow Leo using your USB pen method and it worked fine, but when I updated to 10.6.7 I lost my wifi. Said that no Airport card was installed. I have a Dell 1390 which worked great in 10.6.3. I hadn't installed EDP 1.6 yet, so I gave that a try and kept getting kernel panics at reboot, so decided to wipe everything clean and start over. Couldn't find my USB pen (!) so used the Leppy method with a retail 10.6.0. Install went fine and I'm now at 10.6.0, without applying Leppy's post install stuff, as I'd like to proceed directly with your EDP 1.6. Or would you recommend 1.7? Can you install 1.6 (or 1.7) without a USB pen?
  9. Yes, it's unfortunate, as I have several FW devices that I'd like to be able to use. I'll try to connect an external drive with AC power and see if the problem was that the bus wasn't providing enough power. Googling brought up info at insanelymac that Firewire does work for the D430, but the poster had 10.5 installed, not 10.6. Pretty happy with the 10.6 install, which went smoothly and now runs really well. I still have to do some testing (sleep, battery), but I'm really impressed. One bonus was that the guy I bought it off on eBay said the wifi card was the original one. I was planning to install a Dell 1390, but on my first reboot the Airport icon showed full signal and I was connected! Don't know which card is installed, but it works great right out of the box.
  10. Just wanted to ask re. Firewire on the D430 with Snow Leopard. The 10.6 install went perfectly and I have since updated to 10.6.3. Firewire is listed under System Profiler, but an external bus-powered portable hard disk does not get any power from the D430. Is the problem re. bus-powered devices? Or is Firewire not working at all? Thanks for any help.
  11. Having some brainfreeze problems re. installing the EDP package from the d4x0 site. I have a D420 and just installed 10.6.0 on it. Install went great and 10.6 works fantastic. I wanted to install the extra driver package and then update to 10.6.3 (or 10.6.5, if it's recommended). But I need to ask HOW to install it? As per d4x0 instructions, I downloaded the Booter AsereBLN v.1.1.9. The instructions refer to "extracting" the files to /asere and then running the various commands in terminal. But unzipping the zipped file gives me a folder, not a mounted disk. Obviously I can't get past the terminal command type cd /asere. Excuse the brainfreeze here, but what should I be doing differently with the Booter Asere file? And I guess the same would apply to the EDP file, too, as the instructions are to load cd /Extra. It's late and I'm not seeing things clearly, so I hope it's just a temporary mental block here, and the procedure is pretty simple. Any help greatly appreciated.
