  1. >> Can I use EDP to get the drivers I need? Yes. In fact, I have a E6430 and was having issue getting it to boot the installation. Instead of using the bootpack to install, I installed the kexts from the bootpack, one by one. Since you had no luck 'getting it all at once', I strongly suggest you go for each driver separately, backing up the kexts you override/delete. That way, if something breaks your system, you can revert the change by booting again on single user mode or using the the Install USB.
  2. The DW1510 wifi card only arrived today. I installed it and rebranded using the tutorial available on this site and it worked with default wifi kext, as airport . It is working great and fast. I got offered a deal on a macbook pro and was tempted to get it, but now I think I will stick with the e6430. The only thing I am really missing now is turbo boost. Anyone knows if it works?
  3. Hey Hervé, thanks for your suggestion. However, I think this is a more low-level issue. E.g. On Ukelele there is a button 'Info' on which you get the key-code for every key you press. Those 2 extra keys do not fire any event on that screen either.
  4. Hi guys, Thank you for your help so far. I am having trouble to configure my keyboard layout. It is Brazilian keyboard ( ABNT2). There are plenty of ABNT2 layout bundles available to download. However, on the E6430 it seems that the new keyboard layout is only affecting the position of the keys but do not activate extra keys. e.g. Brazilian keyboard has more keys (Between SHIFT there are 12 keys, where in US keyboard there are 10). Even though the layout keyboard maps those extra keys and that works great when using external ABTN2 keyboards, it seems that the system is not firing those keys at all. I downloaded Ukelele ( keyboard layout editor) to map sure those keys where mapped and they are. Maybe there is something on the keyboard kext that configures the number of keys. What do you guys think is happening? Jhonny
  5. If you can could get a second(cheap, used) HDD for experimenting, it would be better, so you don't risk losing your windows setup. I Think it is a really good practice to experiment/try things with a spare drive. I have 4 years of using hackintosh on PC and I still do that.
  6. Nice, thanks! Does Turbo Boost work for you guys? I really could use some . Compilation time of main work's project: 340s (E6430) vs 53s (i7 3770). I still think it is not bad, But if I could get turbo boost, would be awesome.
  7. Hmm. Because of the 'No Drives' issue, I didn't test it with an actual disk before, It actually reads a CD from Mac. It mounts the disk, but the upper menu 'No drives' remains. Also, on 'Disc Burning' section of 'System Information', it says: No disc burning device was found. If the device is external, make sure it’s connected and turned on. The DVD shows up on SATA section as follows: HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM DU70N: Capacity: 207.4 MB (207,420,528 bytes) Model: HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM DU70N Revision: D102 Serial Number: KLGC9LK5309 Native Command Queuing: No Removable Media: Yes Detachable Drive: No BSD Name: disk1 Power Off: No Async Notification: No Partition Map Type: Unknown S.M.A.R.T. status: Not Supported I don't have a blank disk here to try, but I will get one when I can. >> Where do you see that? If in "About this Mac", a permissions repair through Disk Utility usually fixes this. I have done that a dozen of times. It works (not always) after I repair permissions and restart, but the issue appears again after a while. Is it really working under 2.09GHz or it is just displaying that infot? I hope not to be bothering you guys with so many questions .
  8. Me again . No luck getting the DVD drive to work. I've attached the screenshot of what I get. No error message. Just a note to anyone thinking on upgrading your e6430. I got a pair of 8Gb DDR3 1333Hz Corsair and they are incompatible. Failed all memory tests and system was very unstable. guess it must be 1600Hz.
  9. >> Where do you see that? About this Mac. Thanks!
  10. Now I am a weird behaviour, please let me know if it hangs any bell to you: Looking at the BIOS, the processor is actually a i5 3210M @ 2.5GHz, On the Mac, it shows up as 2.49GHz ( I guess that's OK) but I am also seeing 2.09GHz some times, in fact frequently. Jhonny
  11. Hey, no. I can see the eject on the upper right task bar, but when I click it, I see no drives listed. Instead I see a disabled: "No Drives".
  12. Hey Jake, thanks! Yes, I based my installation mostly off your tutorial. >> USB3 and HDMI/HDMI audio works perfectly. USB3 is currently working and HDMI is fine now, thanks! >> You can upgrade RAM up to 16gb, 8gb/ module and SSD drive too. That speeds up the boot time a lot. Yes, I am putting a SSD and 16Gb of RAM. However, boot time is not a concern, I will use it to develop large Scala projects and quad core processors would came handy . I have seen reviews of E6430 with i7 quad core, but not sure if all E6430 should be the same. e.g. if that one with i7 quad core has better cooling or something like that. >> Your wireless card chipset is not supported, try luck at alternative here Luckly, just found someone here selling a DW1510 Also not working: - Multitouch - I tried the link you posted for multitouch, but no looking getting it to work :/, I may have done something wrong. Will try again later. - Optical Disk Drive - no big issue, since I will probably replace it with a caddy + another HD Overall, I am excited because the performance is pretty good. It exceed my expectations . Again, thanks for the tutorial, the download page and for your attention.
  13. Hi guys, Thanks to the material found here, I got my Dell Latitude E6430 i5-3230 running Mountain Lion 10.8.5 (yay!). 1- So far I got working: a - trackpad ( no multitouch) b - usb 2.0 c - ethernet d - Video seems ok ( 1366x768) e - bluetooth ( however, after installing installing/enabling it, the mac keeps asking for a attaching a bluetooth keyboard because there is no keyboard attached) f - audio g - battery h - shutdown / restart 2 - Not working: a - HDMI video output ( did not test vga or audio) b - Wifi ( PCI Cards on System Information says I have 'Broadcom Corporation BCM4322 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller' but device id is 0x4727 c - USB 3.0 ports ( It worked at some time, then stopped working, probably after installing another kext) Here are my questions regarding this model: - that wifi device id ( 0x4727) means I have unsupported wifi card, even the description saying I have BCM4322, which seems to supported? - If my wifi card is unsupported, how to look for a replacement card? In other words, I live in Brazil and those cards I see people using on this forum to replace on E6430 might not be available here, so I am looking for a more generic way to find one that works. e.g. Look for a pci mini card. Note: I've read somewhere that all half mini cards will not work but not sure which models will fit. - Since I am already opening the notebook to change parts, I thinking on doing other upgrades: put more RAM, SSD and I am wondering if I could buy another mobile processor and put it there e.g. a quad-core i7. Since I have seem those models with i7, I might not be talking nonsense here . Is that possible? Jhonny -- Asus Sabertooth z77, i7 3770, 32Gb DDR3, Samsung Pro 840 SSD, GTX 650 / Mountain Lion 10.8.5
