  1. Sorry, but I have to confess that I really did a stupid mistake! It took me hours to write what I wanted to be my first message here: introducing myslef, as invited; speaking about my computer history & such... when it was finished, I simply forgot to copy it to the clipboard before clicking on the preview button. You guessed what happened, during that long lapse of time I got logged out... I'll try not to replicate such error! So, I'm Manuel, I live in France (forgive my english, obviously it' not my "natural" language). I'am 41 years old, and I've been using computers since 1982, when an uncle (who died last june, how sad) gave us a little black box namned Sinclair ZX81. Two years later our parents bought us Amstrad CPC464 (lot of fun too). In 1986 I read quite many articles in magazines about an amazing machine/OS that was to come: the Amiga 1000. I went to see one at the "expo de Paris", and felt in love with Amiga (Boing & juggler demos were mindboggling). The A1000 was too expensive for us, and also too hard to find in France; but the year after I got a brand new A500 (wich was stolen during following years' summer hollidays, as we left home for Pyrénées). An A2000 (later upgraded with 68030+68882 @25Mhz & HD) came then. As the AGA range came out, I got myself a 4030 model in 1992 or so, and swapped the no longer in use A2000 for my early love: a second hand A1000! Both should be in perfect working order, they are the golden parts of my own "micro-computers nano-museum" (Oric 1, C128, ZX81 & Spectrum, Mac Classic, Atari 520STf... To name some, as well as a Vectrex)! I really miss these days, the Amiga demoscene was just unreal. After Amiga slow death with Commodore's failure, in the mid 90's I bought my first "PC compatible", as we used to say. Windows being what it is, I tried some Linux distro, and really loved some (SME, Mandriva), wich I still use on my main computer (an over 4 years old Vostro 1500 laptop: Core2Duo 1.4Ghz, 2GbRam, nVidia 8400GS) or on various server (for exemple my photo servers have been based on SME since v6, my actual online server http://labo.xamigax.info uses SME8.0beta, I should soon rebuild it with the now released 8.0). Along with the factory installed XP (wich I still had no need to reinstall, even after so many years using it! I must have become a wise & careful XP user!), my Vostro also has a Mandriva Linux, on wich I quite fine-tuned compiz (often was a Linux showcase at that time!). Even my brother, who's a linux pro, was impressed with my settings, and decided me to do a video about it (the first ever video I've uploaded to YouTube, try https://www.google.fr/search?q=mandriva ... ck+64+bits). I also installed OS X (10.5.8, back in 2008/2009), and gave up before finishing a Snow Leopard (not enough time and/or skills) on the same HD (I've also posted some videos, https://www.google.fr/search?q=1er+janvier+2011%2C+4H17). I was given last summer an HP DC7600 ultraslim (not bigger than a pizza box!): P4 @ 2.8Ghz, 1.5Gb RAM, Intel GMA950. Since I got bored of windows (8 should be a good laugh if not shipped with some kind of "magic trackpad", Metro is simply the most irritating UI I've tried), I decided to try turning it into a Hackintosh. After few fails, I decided to keep one install that worked pretty good: the iFail 10.5.4, later upgraded to 10.5.8. It was a quick and dirty install, yet enough for the purpose I had in mind: XBMC! Quick because the machine feels much quicker than when it had 7 installed, dirty because it isn't "clean" (vanilla) install. The fact is that I started to use more and more this mediabox, and the more I was using Mac OS, the more I loved it. It's an incredibly elegant system, really. Thi is also why I appreciate & respect very much your work Conti. Try to educate machackers, with the aim to keep the OS as pure as possible. That was exactly what I had in mind for the Votro: the cleaner the install the most durable it will be. I'd love to use it every day as my main tool! I came to the point that I wanted to give Lion or Mountain Lion a try on my Vostro... To see how Apple might have improved his OS while I was "away" from its scene (I must confess that I didn't used Tiger very much on the Vostro). I surfed a lot, read a lot (read a lot of BS, too!); and found this post (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=50), wich seemed near perfect (different GFX card) for my machine... But the files involved are no longer hosted by Speedyshare So I was hoping for someone to re-upload these files somewhere, so I can resume my studies Right now the Vostro has a clean & fresh Snow Leopard 10.6.3 (well, I assume, for I've used the DellSnowCD to boot it, so....?!?) I haven't done anything but installing the OS, no post-install myhack; nor 10.6.8 combo update. Since the Vostro stays on my desk (too heavy, too big, approx 2hours on when on battery... I'm seriously considering this "http://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/devices/landing.html" as my next really mobile laptop!), I don't care about WiFi, for the Ethernet will be plugged. Here's the lspci I've just done on my SnowLeopared Vostro: 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Mobile PM965/GM965/GL960 Memory Controller Hub [8086] (rev 0c) 00:01.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Mobile PM965/GM965/GL960 PCI Express Root Port [8086] (rev 0c) 00:1a.0 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #4 [8086] (rev 02) 00:1a.1 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #5 [8086] (rev 02) 00:1a.7 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #2 [8086] (rev 02) 00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller [8086] (rev 02) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) PCI Express Port 1 [8086] (rev 02) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) PCI Express Port 2 [8086] (rev 02) 00:1c.3 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) PCI Express Port 4 [8086] (rev 02) 00:1d.0 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 [8086] (rev 02) 00:1d.1 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #2 [8086] (rev 02) 00:1d.2 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #3 [8086] (rev 02) 00:1d.7 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #1 [8086] (rev 02) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge [8086] (rev f2) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge [0601]: Intel Corporation 82801HEM (ICH8M) LPC Interface Controller [8086] (rev 02) 00:1f.1 IDE interface [0101]: Intel Corporation 82801HBM/HEM (ICH8M/ICH8M-E) IDE Controller [8086] (rev 02) 00:1f.2 SATA controller [0106]: Intel Corporation 82801HBM/HEM (ICH8M/ICH8M-E) SATA AHCI Controller [8086] (rev 02) 00:1f.3 SMBus [0c05]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) SMBus Controller [8086] (rev 02) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation GeForce 8400M GS [10de] (rev a1) 03:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX [14e4] (rev 02) 03:01.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394) [0c00]: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C832 IEEE 1394 Controller [1180] (rev 05) 03:01.1 SD Host controller [0805]: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C822 SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro Host Adapter [1180] (rev 22) 03:01.2 System peripheral [0880]: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C843 MMC Host Controller [1180] (rev 12) 03:01.3 System peripheral [0880]: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C592 Memory Stick Bus Host Adapter [1180] (rev 12) 03:01.4 System peripheral [0880]: Ricoh Co Ltd xD-Picture Card Controller [1180] (rev 12) 0c:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection [8086] (rev 02) Hope someone might help me finding the missing files, or guiding me to new tutorial(s) about Lion and/or Mountain Lion install on my Vostro. Keep up your amazing works guys, I just love the way you consider hackintosh! Dare I say that it's a "learning curve" (does it make sense in english too, on such subject?) Manuel (http://Xamigax.Info) NB: because of laggy IR keyboard (PS/2) I'm using on my HP DC7600 Hackintosh, my alias is misspelled. Should be "xamigax", hope I won't have forgotten too many KB errors in this message!
