  1. Herve, you were very helpful. Do you accept tips ?
  2. I was having problems with the bad EFI partition e.g. disk utility won't let me shrink my mac partition etc. I decided to format my drive and start from scratch. To get dual boot working, I installed the windows first and then the mac. The detailed steps are:
  3. OK Herve, No double posts. Your instruction is SO SIMPLE. It worked great. I was able to install win7 on partition 3. However, I ran into trouble while trying to restore the chamelon boot menu. I followed the instructions at https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/2913-windows-7-and-mac-os-x-dual-boot/&do=findComment&comment=22359 . I booted to windows and did: diskpart select disk 0 select partition 2 <---- MACOS partition, the one after the EFI partition active reboot On reboot, I got "Missing operating system" I don't remember the sequence of things I tried after this error but I tried these: - repair your computer using win7 CD - set and unset boot flag on the partition of various partitions using gparted (from hirens boot cd) I finally booted thru the myHack installer drive and reinstalled chameleon on /. Now, I am able to boot into macos. When I go to disk utility, the EFI partition has become visible and it is being shown as FAT32. I dont think that is right. The EFI partition should be hidden in disk utility. When I look at the EFI partition on a different mac os VM, its type is EFI Do you know what I did wrong while restoring chameleon boot menu?
  4. I created a third partition of type NTFS and tried to install win7 on it but got this message: Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style. Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. This hard disk space is formatted with an unsupported version of the NTFS file system....Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. The partition is an EFI system partition(ESP). How do I get around this?
  5. I ran EDP and got a crash while running it. However, on doing a restart: - I could see more display resolutions in system prefs->display - sound started working - display looked crisper. - mouse seemed smoother - overall, the laptop felt much faster. - sleep not working well. It either doesn't come back from sleep (black screen) or crashes. Thanks Herve. I have a very useful system now. Trying dual boot with win7 now.
  6. AWESOME. After I did this, ethernet started working. Also, I didn't have to specify arch=x86_64 anymore at the Chameleon boot menu.
  7. I only see: Firewire VPN PPPoE 6 to 4 in the list of adapters in System Preferences -> Network -> + Yes, I need to change the wifi adapter to a supported model.

  9. I dont have either ethernet/wifi working. So, how do I run EDP? Maybe, I should try some old version of EDP?
  10. The D820 pack worked for me and I have a functional system now. - audio/wifi is not working. - display is 1024x768. It should be 1280x800. I know I will have to change the wifi card to a supported card. I will read the forums over the weekend to get the audio/display working THANKS Herve.
  11. For the benefit of others, Herve is talking about this issue: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/2869-read-me-kp-on-appleefinvram-with-myhack-32-beta8/
  12. Thanks Herve. I did use myHack 3.2 beta 8. I will read the announcements and try your idea. Should I use the bootpack for "Dell Latitude D620, Intel GMA950 graphics (1280x800)" or http://www.osxlatitude.com/packs/Dell/Dell_Latitude_D820-intel-lion.zip?
  13. I tried the boot pack for "Dell Latitude D620, Intel GMA950 graphics (1280x800)" from http://www.osxlatitude.com/edp/compatibility/. I thought it would be a good match as my display is 1280x800 as well but the installer crashed as well. Any ideas?
  14. I have a dell latitude D820 with intel 945GM I tried the installer with Extra from http://www.osxlatitude.com/packs/Dell/Dell_Latitude_D820-intel-lion.zip but got this kernel panic. Any ideas?
  15. I have a dell d820. I dont see an option to change "Sata operation" to AHCI in the bios. Do you think I can install mac os x on it. Thanks.
  16. That's great adrouart. Can you please tell me how you got wifi working. Did you get a wifi usb adapter or a broadcom wifi adapter(internal)
  17. I am amazed by the speed of help I get on this site. Thanks sipart. I followed Leon's instructions at https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1363-start-your-engines-1074-is-here/page__view__findpost__p__9218 My D630 is up and running on 10.6.4. Glad I didnt have to go to 10.7.3
  18. Leon, you have extra "rm -Rf" in the commands above. Copy paste . I think you meant chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext
  19. I downloaded the 10.7.4 combo client update from apple and applied. It is getting stuck at: "Still waiting for root device". Yes, I have AHCI selected for SATA in bios. I searched for 10.7.4 on this but found no results. I am able to boot into the 10.7 mac myhack usb stick and tried removing some extra kexts and then running myfix but doesnt seem to help. Should I have upgraded to 10.7.3 instead? I dont really care about the version as long as I can run xcode - seems that 10.7.3 is bare minimum to run it. I noticed some folks here have 10.7.4 in their signatures. Just curious how they were able to get that update. Thanks again.
  20. Thanks syonagar. It worked! My native display now works at 1440x900 resolution and I am also able to connect an external monitor and get dual displays. I used the dsdt.aml from this post: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1144-d630-intel-1440x900-lion-success/page__view__findpost__p__9480 I extracted the dsdt.aml and replaced mine in /Extra and then rebooted and Viola, full resolution on the native display. You can't imagine how happy I was when I connected the external monitor and it worked too.
  21. After posting this, I thought of running the latest EDP 3. My laptop didn't have wifi/ethernet. So, I downloaded EDP3 on another mac, zipped it up, unzipped it into /Extra of my laptop. After running EDP, I chose option 1. It solved all my issues including: - ethernet - random hangs during boot and after login - resolution looks amazing on external monitor - UI on ext monitor is not sluggish anymore. - sleep working fine (I can choose sleep from apple menu and then restore by pressing any key on KB) - sound working great - Haven't felt the need to use -f on chameleon boot menu even once after EDP3. Thank you so much. Had been banging my head for 2-3 days now. Remaining issues: - Biggest issue is display on the laptop itself. I am attaching 2 images and a video which shows how during boot, the display goes from a rotating ball on the osxlatitude apple image to a image where there are multiple vertical lines on the display. Any ideas on this would be appreciated? However, when I connect an external monitor and close the laptop display, the display on the external monitor is amazing. The displays icon in the menubar shows multiple resolutions to choose from. - clicking on battery icon on menu bar says "Change Battery" Overall, a very workable machine for ios development. Now, I need to figure out if it is safe to upgrade to 10.7.3. All xcode versions for Lion seem to need it.
  22. Hello gurus, I have been trying to install osx lion 10.7 on my off-lease dell latitude d630 for a couple of days now. I used myhack 3.1. Regarding Extra/ folder, I tried the vanilla Extra from myhack and couple of different ones from various ones including this one. Some specs of my laptop: - 4GB RAM - intel core 2 duo - 1440x900 resolution - intel graphics I had disabled the following in bios: - SATA operation is AHCI under Onboard devices - Dynamic acceleration is OFF under Performance - wifi/bluetooth disabled in bios Now, how do I enable the following. The following don't work: - ethernet - wifi (I read couple of places that wifi will never work until I get broadcom internal wifi card. Can someone suggest the model number of the cheapest chip out there) - sound - sleep (I tried to close the lid once but the system never recovered from it. I could never recover from it and had to reinstall the system. I couldnt even boot from the myhack boot disk.) - resolution is stuck at 1024x768 (even when connected to an external monitor) - UI seems slow (e.g. the animations on the dock are sluggish, typing the password at the login prompt is slow). I am comparing the speed to an imac I have at work which has a similar spec (2GB ram, core 2 duo). - battery is being reported as 0% charged in SystemPreference->Energy saver even though my laptop is on ac since morning. Some other issues: 1) Sometimes the system just freezes during boot. To get around it, I try either : - I reboot and at the chameleon menu, switch the display an external monitor and give -f option. That usually gives an successful boot. I have found that the system hangs less if I use an external monitor throughout. - I try the above step but dont use the external monitor i.e. let it boot into the internal monitor. Things that work fine: - internal KB is working fine. - my trackpad/mouse is disabled from bios. So, usb mouse works fine. I know this is a lot of ask so if you can help me with anyone of these that would be great. Do I need to run EDP to fix these issues or get some kexts Thanks everyone for reading and your help.
  23. Thanks Japsser. Did you have nvidia/intel graphics?
