  1. I'm still curious to why I couldn't install SL with bootpack and EDP. I was able to install Lion with no problem using bootpack and EDP. The best I could get with SL was 10.6.3, with a kext package I found on another site and all update attempts failed. I've got two hard drives, one with Lion, fully updated and SL. In my opinion Lion doesn't run nearly as well as SL on my D630
  2. Got everything working, tried to do an update but it crashed the system so right now I'm with 10.3, but everything works.
  3. I decided to give it one more shot. So, I searched the internet for alternative files, I found a file called dell d630 10.3 pack. I used myhack install it. I'm getting proper graphics at 1200x 800 and sound. My processor is only reading 1.81 and I have no ethernet. I installed with the generic extra and then added as system was stable. Bootpacks did not, will not work on this particular laptop. I also updated bios to A19.
  4. I wasn't able to get this working. The best I got was with the generic extra and when I was able to update to 10.6.8 it froze up. I tried several bootpacks as suggested but each time I got the black screen. I may abandoned this project and see if I can pick up a D830. This D630 runs great on Ubuntu 13.10
  5. Every time I install the current bootpack it fails, I get a black screen. It only works when I install in generic. I was able to get an update to 10.6.3 but it kept freezing up on me so I'm back to square one.
  6. Ok I was able to update it to 10.6.8
  7. I tried to do an update but it stalls upon rebooting. My original install is from the retail 10.6.3 DVD. With the generic, I get no audio, limited graphics, and no ethernet. Where can I locate the older boot pack files?
  8. Would this be it, Dell 0KU184? That's the MB.
  9. No difference with the nvidia..so far the only one that will boot is the generic but that leave me with a very buggy system..
  10. Even with 4gb, same results. It will install with generic extra but not with specific model bootpack and to be sure that I somehow was using the wrong bootback I I created 2, each with different bootbacks for the D630 and tried them both
  11. I have 2gb but I'm going to be putting 4gb in today. I was running Ubuntu previously and if I can't get the bugs worked out with this I'll probably go back to it.
  12. I updated the bios and tried to install several more times but always with the same results. Just out of curiosity I decided to install with generic extra and to my surprise, it installed perfectly. However, I have no sound, wifi and my graphics may not be working at its highest level but that's another process. I didn't expect to be able to get wifi but I had a wireless usb that could use.
  13. Well, it's a D630 and the video controller is Intel Crestline Graphics Video Bios Version 1500 Native resolution 1200x 800 This is what I got in BIOS Is there something that I'm not seeing in BIOS to correctly identify this? I am a musician who had to learn computers to build my studio... though I do enjoy the hacking aspect, I'm far from a credible hacker.
