  1. I would like to underscore that I am actually quite happy with the results of my hackintoshing, using the methods provided by OSXLatitude. When there's an opportunity to express "what do you think", I'm inclined to take it and say so, figuring someone will get something beneficial somehow. Yes, I am quite fortunate to get to work in the industry for so long. An interesting aspect about being paid is that the stockholders and beancounters get grumpy after a while and the proverbial time comes to "shoot the engineers" and bring product to market. This always bookends the effort to create something like UEFI, which I've noticed the hacking community ultimately sails right through. Cant shut it off in BIOS? We have a fix for that - which one would you like? Jailbreaking Apple's signed apps? What, they count in days for the next rev of iOS to be cracked?! Pretty impressive stuff, given that any documentation for how any of this works isnt just given out. I'm thinking that you guys are the future, as you know more about computing than the people who make it, because no one in this day and age can afford to pay someone for the time it takes to really know it that well. Same with the next increment in a particular technology; it's necessarily bounded by this matter of fact and "you guys" will figure it out somehow and quickly. So what I think is made with a lot of respect for what you do, actually. I realize there are zillions of variations in a specific model; after all Intel has to sell every piece in every bin, so that E6500 can be comprised of a range of hardware components. Getting just the right instance is a challenge and the model matrix that OSXlatitude has put together is a nonesuch step towards sorting it all out. The alternative - trawling the web to see in which forum and in which topic entry someone was able to tease out a success with a particular machine - is hardly attractive. Perhaps, similarly to how some models in the list have a guide link, there could be a forum link to all user experience, questions, etc for that machine. Another "comsumer idiot" level indicator might be to have the 5 star UX rating of EDP for that machine. 5 stars - bada-bing - perfect. 4 stars - couple of things - click the machine's forum link. 3 stars - you're going to have to replace hardware / only certain instances of the base model work - click the machine's forum link. Just some random thoughts... Thanks and Best Regards, Joe
  2. New to hackintoshing hobbyist here. When I stumbled upon OSXLatitude, I thought "Wow, these folks have it all worked out - you can intelligently pick a machine with the best chance of everything working" So I looked across the matrix and thought Asus X44H looks pretty good; checks right across the board for ML and I dont care about the biometric thing anyway. So I bought one. After going through the procedure, I was met with a Kernel crash. It took some substantial research (and I understand that's par for the course) to figure out that for this particular machine, you either have to patch the BIOS or use a patched versions of AppleIntel ... kext, which I was able to dig up elsewhere and install. Why didnt the EDP "know this" about this machine, while all the compatibility checks indicate everything works? Similarly with the audio. The compatibility list says audio is a go, and it turns out audio requires some massaging to get it to work as well; a different kext from the one installed via EDP, and editing within that kext. That I dug up elsewhere... Similarly with the battery; battery's got a check, however it always indicates 0%, although it can tell if the AC is plugged in. Battery indicator is pretty important on a laptop! So it seems for this machine, even though a subsystem may be indicated as working via EDP, it's not necessarily so. Am I being picayune by wondering if anyone actually has a X44H and tests it periodically against EDP, or if it's assumed EDP "should" work because it did the last time, or because we heard someone got everything working eventually? By "heard someone" I mean I'm not seeing a lot of X44H material in the forums, where someone documented just how this machine earned its checkmark for each of the categories claimed to be functional. I mean, if not out of the EDP box, then how else? I'm just sharing my "user experience" so far; I think the idea of a place that makes it easy and the network based automatic EDP is great! For those machines without a "user guide" indicator, you're truly on your own; you can ask questions and hope someone takes the time to answer, but it will be a challenge and with nothing explicit to guide you, the checks arent so definitive - more like "possibly" or "with some work" or "If you're lucky". Sorry, I've worked for 30 years in validation of computer components, where we never trust a vendor's part to do what they say it will. You have to check and document everything; nothing gets a pass until you've seen it happen personally. Who saw the X44H actually do each of what's claimed? Thanks and Best Regards, Joe
  3. Okay, I found information at http://olarila.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=454 - They said to change the info.plist inside VoodooHDA.kext; <key>IOPCIClassMatch</key> <string>0x04030000&0xffff0000</string> to <key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key> <string>0x3b568086</string> Using the device id for my audio, which I found to be 1c20, by method in http://olarila.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=63 Still didnt work. So, it seems they have a lot of kexts for download at http://olarila.com/kexts/ I picked VoodooHDA version 2.8.4, where their website kindly indicates it works (in a tested devices list) with my Intel audio hardware at 1c20. Downloaded it, made the above changes to the info.plist inside and replaced the existing VoodooHDA.kext with the new one. Ran MyHack MyFix and rebooted, audio now works!
  4. Hello, Now that I've gotten past the KP at startup due to the AppleIntel...kext, I'd like to start a topic on the audio for this machine. I figure EDP should have just handled it, but what's coming out for audio is hopelessly garbled. The clue I've noted is that it sounds just the same as the audio that's supposed to play during the install of ML 10.8.5, so I'm suspecting something didnt take in the EDP run. In "Sound" I have selections for "Digital Output" and "Speaker" and the volume control is enabled. But it just sound like static. Any help toward getting the regular audio working on this machine would be appreciated! Thanks and Best Regards, Joe
  5. Ok, reading around the web led me to something called Patched AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext for 10.8 over at iFail. I downloaded it, copied over the existing AppleIntel...kext, ran MyFix from MyHack and here I am, replying to this topic using my Asus Hackintosh system, via wireless! I noticed that MyHack has an option to patch this file; thought it couldnt have been right under my nose all this time! I tried that first and no-go. So I could only do this with a second Hackintosh system to run MyHack on the Asus SSD. From reading, I understand that if Apple does an update to this system, I'll have to repeat overwriting the AppleIntel...kext with the patched version. I also understand that it's possible to capture, edit and reflash the Asus BIOS so it will work without need the patched power management kext. Has anyone ever reflashed a patched BIOS on their Asus X44H K84L laptop?
  6. Using SuperDuper, I made a couple of disk images of my ML SSD, used MyHack to put Cameleon on them so they boot. I tried EDP again, with all the switches on - same as last time. After the build, logging out and back in, I was able to get WiFi up and connected! (No audio device found however) Upon shutdown / reboot I get the same crash as before; this time I took a picture. I see you have to host it on line to post; havent done that since ebay made it easy... I believe the relevant information is that there's a kernal panic on CPU0, Kernal trap, Type 13 General Protection; Kernal Extensions in backtrace: com.apple.driver.AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement(1111.0) ... I'm pretty sure I wont be able to translate this into a particular switch on/off selection in EDP by myself. If anyone can recognize this error and help me with a line to remove / edit from a plist file, or a switch to turn off when doing an EDP build, that'd be much appreciated! Thanks for your time.
  7. Hey, thanks! From the sticker on the bottom; X44H-BBR7, MB ver K84L, ID 7K. Looking at BIOS, version is 2.01.1204. I still have the Windoze disk, so a BIOS update is possible. If there's a specific version necessary, please let me know. Appreciate it!
  8. I've got ML installed in the usual way and it's running and I can connect to the internet via RJ45. Would like to enable the rest of the features, so I downloaded and installed EDP5, ran it. Afterward, no go - just crashes immediately, before setting the OS X version - "OS version not set". A couple of questions; How can you tell when EDP is finished? The EDP screen seemed to "flick" every few seconds. I looked on the EDP page and the last thing shows was step 6 completed (with the donation request) which is what I was showing, so I figured it was done. It may not have actually finished when I rebooted the machine. After going through the install, all the setup and download, I'm afraid to run EDP again, only to end up with a broken machine again. Is there any procedure someone can recommend, maybe installing one thing at a time versus the whole shebang? I have an Apricorn USB to SATA, should I do a backup to a spare HDD before applying the next step? That way if it dies, I dont have to go all the way back to the beginning. I bought the system and fought hard on ebay for it, based on the breadth of functionality shown in the bootpack compatability listings here. I was sure hoping it would work. Sorry for the "placeholder" entry, It was 1:30 am as I was reinstalling ML; I couldnt remember even these details at the time. I know someone will ask for the screenshot, which I dont have. Something about ACPI. I figure if I do a step by step driver install, I can capture it then. I'm thinking backup, install one category, on success backup, install another category, on success backup, until I hit the one my hardware isnt liking for some reason. What do you think? Is there a better way to finish my X44H hackintosh project? Thanks!
