  1. Thanks for all the help, after a few attempts I have managed to get a working installation of El Capitan I had to patch AppleRTC as instructed as I was getting a CMOS reset every time I shutdown/restarted. I have removed the NullCPUManagement.kext and enabled CPU speedstep in the BIOS. Is there anyway to verify this is working properly? I removed lspcidrv.kext as I can't remember what I needed it for last time. Shutdown and sleep seem to be working fine. Sound is not working. I seem to recall I have a realtek audio card so I'll try to find the appropriate kext. Finally, how hard is it to get Messages/iCloud working? Really pleased so far, might put in a SSD and a quad core CPU to get a few more years life out of this machine
  2. Thanks Hervé The spec of my machine is Core 2 Duo E6600 2.40GHz, 8GB DDR2-533, NVIDIA GeForce GT610. As you say, my processor won't work in Sierra and I've also read the GT610 card currently is not supported either. I'll retry the install and follow your instructions with El Capitan. I'll remove Patched_10.7_AppleRTC and NullCPUPowerManagement (I'll leave the rest) and see how the system behaves. I'll give you an update once done
  3. OK thanks. I've used my existing Extra folder and dropped in the new kernel.plist file as this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>KernelBooter_kexts</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>KernelHasswell</key> <string>No</string> </dict></plist> I assume this is correct. I've also copied my existing /Extra/Extensions kexts to /Library/Extensions. 1. AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext 2. ApplePS2Controller.kext 3. FakeSMC.kext 4. Intel82566MM.kext 5. lspcidrv.kext 6. NullCPUPowerManagement.kext 7. Patched_10.7_AppleRTC.kext When I try to the boot from the USB, I get the error Can't find boot file '/System/Library/Kernels/mach_kernel'. I have created the /System/Library/Kernels folder which has the file kernel. Any pointers?
  4. Thanks Hervé, knew you would be able to help I am going to follow your D630 guide as I want to wipe the HDD and do a fresh install of Sierra. Can I check a couple of things before I start?: For the copy D630n boot pack step, should I just copy my existing /Extra folder to the USB installer? In the step to copy the kernel can I just use your linked page El Captain Vanilla_kernel_10.11.6.zip for Sierra?
  5. Hi all, I've been using my trusted (thanks to this website my hack installation with Mavericks on my Dell XPS 210 for the last couple of years. It's been rock solid but it's time to upgrade. I want to do a clean install of Sierra using Clover using the USB installation method but I'm a little stuck. I have managed to install the installation files of Sierra and configured clover on the USB stick but once I have rebooted, the installation process hangs. I think its due to the config.plist file not being correct (as I used an example file). I have tried: 1. Using Clover configurator to generate me a config file but this doesn't work doesn't generate a config file. 2. I looked here (http://www.osxlatitude.com/edp/compatibility/) but the Dell Vostro 200 Clover bootpack link doesn't seem to be working. Is there a way I can generate a Clover config.plist file from my existing installation (which uses Chameleon)? Any help would be appreciated.
  6. Thanks Jake, I'll give it a go this weekend
  7. Thanks Herve I've got chameleon. Glad I can do the reinstall, I can't remember all the post configuration changes I made I'll see if there are any guides available and give it a go.
  8. Hi all, I've got Mavericks on my dell xps 210 using myhack. Can I upgrade to Yosemite using software update or will it fail miserably?
  9. I checked at it was on en0. I tried removing the interfaces, removing the plist, rebooting and re-adding the network interface and still no success. If I check "About this Mac", it says the serial number is SOMESRLNMBR. Do you think it may be to do with this?
  10. Hi all, Just rebuilt my Dell XPS 210 with myHack. I am trying to access iCloud but it's not working. Internet and network access is OK but when I try to specify my username and password via SystemPreferences > iCloud, I get a message saying "Unable to sign in because of a problem communicating with iCloud, try signing in again". If I try to login to the app store with the same details, I get "Your device or computer could not be verified. Contact support for assistance." Any help on how to fix this would be appreciated.
  11. Thanks Herve Installed the graphics card and rebuilt the machine with myHack (without the DSDT) and most things are working great. Only a couple of queries. 1. I noticed on some of the screenshots on your post that you have a icon in the main menu for display settings, I don't seem to have this. Do I need to install something? 2. Sleep seems to be working but on wake the computer comes back pretty straight away but it take a bit of time for the monitors to switch back on. Is that the same for you?
  12. Great thanks. I'll wait for the graphics card and see how much of the functionality I can get working. Cheers.
  13. Great thanks for all your help. The only concern is that the power supply in the XPS 210 is 275w and for that card the minimum is 300w. Do you think that will be a big issue? On a side note, I used unifail and multifail for the build as I couldn't find a DSDT/bootpack for my machine. Is there any disadvantages with this or should I try to do the DSDT route?
  14. OK thanks for confirming. I hoped something was possible as the compatablity and downloads page (http://www.osxlatitude.com/edp/compatibility/) had a Dell Vostro 200 bootpack for 10.9 (mavericks) which includes an ATI1300Controller.kext file. The XPS 210 is slim line case which uses a low profile graphics card and I seem to recall a lower power supply. Do you think those cards you mentioned will be ok? If so, I saw this on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/eVGA-GeForce-GT-610-Graphics-Card-1-GB-810-MHz-PCI-Express-2-0-x16-HDMI-NVIDIA-/310865633145?pt=UK_Computing_Computer_Components_Graphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW&hash=item4861091f79
  15. Hi all, I pretty new to this so I was hoping someone can help me. I have a Dell XPS 210 and I installed Mavericks (using unifail and multifail). I managed to get the system to boot but I can't increase the graphics resolution from 1024 x 768. I have an ATI Radeon x1300/x1550 graphics card (device id 0x7183) with dual DVI output. How would I able to get this to work? Any help would be appreciated.
