So after a few months, I've had a chance to go back to my hackintosh. I currently have Yosemite installed, although the wifi isn't working. I decided to go ahead and start over and i used JakeLo's Clover guide here: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/8506-dell-latitude-inspiron-el-capitan-clover-guide/https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1109-e6420-research-thread/page-30 I've got a Dell Latitude E6420 with Intel HD 3000 graphics. I went to change the settings in the BIOS as instructed, but I don't see either the Legacy Option ROM or the Secure Boot option to disable. When I boot the machine (with the usb plugged into the left usb slot) I don't launch the Clover installer, instead I get to what looks like it's not finding any recognizable devices. The hard drive currently in the computer has been wiped (I kept the Yosemite drive separate in case things didn't go well), but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any advice? The machine is a Dell Latitude E6420 with Intel i5-2520M CPU @ 2.5 GH, with Intel 3000 HP graphics. Thanks.

I fixed the RAID issue and now if I F12 during boot I see Install OS X Yosemite - the usb, Untitled 1 - the hard drive and then it says RAID for Recovery HD.

I feel like I'm being a pain, but I'm still facing the unable to find the mach_kernel issue. I have found the suggested solution here: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/7413-cant-findsystemlibrarykernelskernel/ Seems you're having trouble as a results of a couple of typos: it's not /System/LibraryKernels/Kernel, it's /System/Library/Kernels/kernel. Exact syntax is of outmost importance... /mach_kernel does not exist any more in Yosemite (unlike earlier OS X versions), so if you want Chameleon to use that, simply copy the kernel (specified in above green path) to your partition's root and under the legacy name. You can either do copy/paste + file renaming through the UI or use Terminal command sudo cp /System/Library/Kernels/kernel /mach_kernel. But what I don't know is if I can do this from the Terminal after upgrading to Yosemite via the usb stick, and if so, what the full command would be. I know the name of the partitions for both my hard drive and for the usb if that is helpful.

I had to zip both files as the site wouldn't let me upload them as is. Hopefully the zip doesn't impact you being able to open the files. I ended up wiping the machine and putting Maverick back on as some thing had gotten screwed up as I was playing around trying to make Yosemite work. As usual, I know just enough to get myself in trouble. But interestingly, the wifi isn't working. I think at some point, I may have overwritten the working wifi file. I hope that isn't a problem. Both files were generated from within Maverick. The processor is i5-2520M, graphics HD3000 resolution 1600 x 900. The wifi card is Atheros AR5B95, Device ID 0x00027, Vendor ID 0x168C. Thanks again for all your help. dsdt.zip MacBook Pro.zip

To clarify, I think you're saying I need to use Herve's suggestion to update the plist file as suggested here: Patching means adding the PCI ids of the listed card to the Info.plist file found inside the listed kext. In rare cases, binary patching may also be necessary. For some cards, DSDT Patching can be a suitable and permanent alternative to kext patching (no need to repatch after OS X updates and upgrades or new installations). For instance, in the case of the AR5B95 card (chip AR9285 168c,2b), adding compatibility with a chip known to be supported OOB such as AR9380 168c,30 or AR9280 168,2a (as found in the vanilla Atheros40 kext) in a _DSM method for the identified DSDT device does the trick once and for all since it'll make the OS load the associated kext Is that correct? If not, what am I missing?

I really meant to include that. I have an Atheros AR5B95, Device ID 0x00027, Vendor ID 0x168C. I'll try updating the audio once I can get the wifi working.

So I was able to mostly successfully complete the install of Yosemite, but I have no wifi as it doesn't detect the hardware. I tried to install the kext from my Maverick installation, but that didn't resolve the problem. Also due to having no wifi, I can't run the Chameleon Wizard as it wants to use the network. I'm sure there's an ethernet cable around here somewhere, but I'm just visiting so I don't know where it would be. It also appears that I don't have sound, but that's a lesser issue.

Adding the DSDT.aml from the existing install seems to have done the trick. I'm now able to see the install screen. I meant to say 1600x900. Thanks for the assistance.

I'm trying to install Yosemite on a E6420 that currently has Maverick installed. I set up the USB as per here: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/7478-dell-latitude-e6xxxe7xxx-yosemite-install-guide/&do=findComment&comment=45213 But when I boot to the USB, select install with -v -f, the install progresses past reading all the kext files and when I think it's about to go to the installation screen, the screen slowly turns whiteish. I'm pretty sure that means that I have either an incorrect bootpack or extras file, but I don't know what my next steps are. The processor is i5-2520M, graphics HD3000 resolution 1300 x 900. Any advice would be appreciated.

So I now have a copy of the Mavericks install disk, set up the MyHack usb and when I go to install, the installer starts to boot but hits a kernel panic. So I booted with -v and this is the error I get P-State Stepper Error 18 at step 35 in context 2 on CPU 0 panic(cpu 3 caller 0xfffff7f808989da): pmLock: waited too long, held by 0@0xffffff800002e481f Debugger called: <panic> Backtrace (CPU 3), Frame : Return Address Kernel Extensions in backtrace: com.apple.driver.AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement(1111.0)[EDE188A8-D142-3689-B2F0-26AB424A4CAF]@0xffffff7f80886000->0xffffff7f808aefff BSD process name corresponding to current thread: kernel_task Boot args: boot-uuid=479331F9-5D0E-390E-91A7-7EEA800D42F58 rd=uuid -v Mac OS version: 13F34 Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 13.4.0: Sun Aug 17 19:50:11 PDT 2014: root:xnu-2422.115.4~1/RELEASE_X86_64 System model name: MacBookPro*,1 (Mac-9424583640C91C81) I don't know what that kernel panic means. Can you advise? Thanks.

I can probably do that, but how do I go about getting a full install disk of Mavericks? From what I understand, Apple is not making Mavericks available for download if you haven't already downloaded it. If that's not the case, are the usb drives available on Amazon a full install disk? If I can download it from the App Store, my existing hackintosh only has about 2 hours of battery life (and it won't charge as there's something wrong with the internal power connection. So on a fast connection, I think I can download the full version of Mavericks and create the usb drive, but I probably only get one chance at that. Thanks,

I have a Dell Latitude e6420, i5 processor, Intel HD graphics and I just updated the wifi card to an Atheros AR5B95 AR9285 802.11B/G/N Half Mini PCI-E Card I created the usb as instructed here https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1109-e6420-research-thread/ but when I boot to the USB and select the Mountain Lion install, the screen goes black and slowly turns white. I'm guessing it has something to do with the difference in graphics card, but I don't know how to work around that issue. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm using Mountain Lion because I have access to a full install copy, but I don't have access to a new full install copy. The plan is to upgrade, but I need to get this operational before I can do that. Alternately, if somebody can tell me how to get a legal full install copy of a newer version if that would be easier, I'd be fine with that too. Thanks.

Unfortunately my friend isn't reliable. I've been waiting more than a month for him to get this done. I'm just frustrated with not being able to get this set up so I'm trying to find a work around. I'll give this a shot to see if I can get it set up enough to create the myHack usb drive and then go back to this method once I have that. Thanks.

Can you point me in the direction of the ModCD? I've been trying to work with a friend who has a Mac running Snow Leopard, but he's somewhat less that reliable in terms of getting me the usb drive with the MyHack set up. So I'm hoping to get a temporary set up, run the MyHack and then reinstall with the method outlined on this site. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I replaced the wireless card and then reinstalled via the usb drive. As you suspected, I had the same issue. Because I need to borrow a Mac to get the usb card, I want to make sure I understand the steps to set it up. First I use MyHack to create the usb drive rather than using Disk Utility. Then I use MyHack to install the correct Extra package on the usb. Is that correct? Thanks again for your help.
