I tried the above and still the same. I can actually hover over the "black screen" and the cursor changes to a pointing finger meaning the menus are there to click on, but is just not showing it. and I can hear the sound.

I'm not sure if this is a known issue or not, but on my D620 I can't get DVD movies to show video using DVD Player (the one that comes with the OSX) I'm on 10.6.7 with he latest EDP. I have the NVIDIA video card and the latest bootloader. I have tried a million things and none work. However I can use VLC to watch DVD's just fine. I just would like the built in DVD player. Front Row does the same thing. only sound but no video. any help would be greatly appreciated it.
