  1. Also, is there one place to look for the up to date packs you are posting?
  2. I would very much appreciate accurate packs for D830 NVS140 that work with myHack when you have a chance. Thanks.
  3. Who curates the D830 support in the mainline EDP bootpack universe? It's very frustrating to always find out the "plug and play" support for D830 Nvidia is old, wrong, or otherwise broken and have to hunt down details in the forums. A lot of times, Herve will say things like "I don't use MyHack" so the whole EDP route for D830 seems unfinished and misleading. This is a years old machine and most of the OSX versions are also years old and should be fully debugged on it. Am I missing something? Can we collectively help polish off D830 support for the older OSXs? Thanks.
  4. Herve, I appreciate your willingness to provide a lot of support here (for free). Knowledge is a funny thing. It's very hard for someone who already has it to remember what those without it need to know. My post was motivated by a cheerful following of the prescribed process to install 10.6 on my machine, only to have a non-booting paperweight as a result. It was actually a side hint in a post by you that suggested the ACPI kext should be removed for releases prior to 10.6.8. That lead me to believe it was needed for 10.6.8. If it's not needed at all, why is it there? As for the RTC kext, it caused harm, it prevented booting until I removed it on a hunch. I suppose I could try putting it back now that I'm at 10.6.8 (I don't remember doing that experiment). MyHack is a special topic all its own. You say, "it's now been long stated that myHack v3.1.2 should be used" but I only found that out after using it failed because nowhere in following the very explicit instructions here has anyone added a simple "NOTE: For 10.6...". Fortunately it didn't break my system. Please ask whomever curates the procedure pages to put a note there to warn people that 3.3.1 is dangerous and tell them how to get the older version. The fact, that the prior version is recommended, but only available by special request, is truly confusing. Is it really easier to field individual requests than to just put up a download link with a note that you should use that version for 10.6?
  5. Herve, Thanks. I need compatibility/equivalence with another machine also running 10.7.5 I will swap in an older FakeSMC and see what happens.
  6. D830 Nvidia NVS140 Graphics HiRes Screen (1920x1200) A17 BIOS A few notes to save others some aggravation for the title scenario. The "plug and play" bootpack and EDP payload for this scenario does not work for installers before 10.6.8 (i.e. most of them). My installer is the original retail disk (10.6.0). 1. DO NOT TRY TO CREATE AN INSTALLER FOR 10.6.x USING MyHack 3.3.1! It can destroy the system you build it on (yeah, the perfectly good host system you just use to create the thumb drive). This is a known bug and I won't even try to guess why 3.3.1 is still the current version and there is no warning on the download page for it. 2. Download and alter the bootpack from OSXL for 10.6. For installers before 10.6.8, you must remove both AppleACPIPlatform.kext and Patched_10.7_AppleRTC.kext from the Extensions folder or your machine will probably not boot. Do this before you install the Extra on the installer thumb drive. 3. Use another method to create the installer. I used Disk Utility to restore the retail disk to the thumb drive and then used the OTHER MyHack options one at a time to install Chameleon and the modified Extra to the thumb drive. This description is intentionally not detailed and you should look for the details elsewhere if you need them. YMMV 4. Perform the installation and tell MyHack to use the Extra from the thumb drive for the hard drive too. 5. Go through the first boot nonsense and then do the 10.6.8 combo upgrade. DO NOT REBOOT YET! 6. Find that copy of AppleACPIPlatform.kext you removed earlier. Put it back into the Extensions folder in Extra and run MyFix quick. 7. Leave Patched_10.7_AppleRTC.kext out or the machine may hang on boot. It doesn't seem to hurt anything to leave it out but, once again, YMMV. I'm sure someone else will explain why it's needed but my machine wouldn't boot with it. 8. Reboot and try EDP if you're brave (you may have to remove the patched RTC file again) 9. Your touchpad performance may suck. Turn off all gesture options in the control panel. Better? 10. Your audio may not work. Download the installer package for voodooHDA_MAV (yes, MAV). Run it and let it install. Run MyFix as always. (http://sourceforge.net/projects/voodoohda/files/VoodooHDA_V286_MAV.pkg.zip/download). there's a newer version there now but I haven't tried it. 11. Use safe mode (-x boot arg) if you wedge your machine and need to play with the Extra file contents. If that won't work either, go back to your installer, boot it, and reinstall the more vanilla Extra and build from there (you may need to get that ACPI kext in there for it to work, so make a copy of the Extra on the thumb drive with the ACPI kext in it to use in an emergency on a 10.6.8 upgraded machine. Just name it something other than 'Extra'). Good luck!
  7. OK. I tried a clean install on bare metal of 10.7.4 and installed the pack provided above. The machine won't boot. Verbose output shows exceptions from VoodooHDA, then complains that the ACPI SMC driver can't be found and then sits. Some details: I'm using myHack 3.3.1 and it is installing whatever version of Chameleon it has builtin and whatever boot args it defaults to. I had myHack install the Extra from above using the 'Install Extra' > 'Use My Own' option The BIOS is the latest version (A17) and is configured to the settings given in the sticky thread for that here on OSXL This machine works fine with other OS payloads (Win, Linux) Any ideas?
  8. Herve, your updated Extra does not boot. The last line of the -v output is "Resetting IOCatalogue." and then it sits and spins forever. When I have a chance, I will throw in a spare drive and do a virgin clean install with your pack and see if it's any better. The current installer I have is 10.7.4 In the mean time, any ideas would be welcome. Thanks again.
  9. Thanks. I'll try the improved pack. <rant> OK. So why is that the pack I get from the download page? It's very frustrating to have the promise of plug-and-play to find out it crashes and burns. The D830 Snow package is also broken if you don't have a 10.6.8 installer. I found my way around the potholes on that one but it wasn't easy. These OSX versions and machines are now both static for months and years, so the install for these combinations should be bulletproof at this point. I realize they are also not sexy like the new versions so they don't get the attention but it would be nice to have a smooth experience for a change. The D8x0 machines are pretty nice hackintosh platforms (the 830 in particular) and are easily maintained and upgraded. </rant>
  10. Here's the Extra folder. I had to use a copy of VoodooHDA-MAV that came with its own package installer file to get audio working. Extra 2.zip
  11. I'm using stock install of 10.7.4 with update to 10.7.5 using EDP and various things are unreliable or don't work correctly. The D830s I have are top-line machines with the NVIDIA graphics (NVS 140M) and the high res screen (1920x1200). The main differences for this machine from a typical config are the 140M and the high res screen. Some of the odd behavior: Sound not working (sound chip not found in sys info!) Trackpad is sluggish, skips Screen sleep goes to bright white screen instead of black (not system sleep, that works fine) so backlight control is not getting set correctly intermittent boot failure (panics?) with black or white screen and disk activity (looks like it's doing something) but login screen never appears. These problems show up in 10.7.5 across multiple machines so it's not one defective machine. Something about the standard install packages from myHack and EDP is not quite right for this machine. Could this be another "hi res" issue that needs it's own pack like the intel versions? I'm attaching a few "system dump" files, dumped from one of the machines using Windows, for comparison to the one used for the OSXL packages. devdump.txt pcidump.txt acpi_dsdt.zip
  12. I have a D830 with NVidia graphics that works fine under 10.7.5 with one exception: screen sleep produces a bright white screen instead of turning off the backlight (black). This is NOT a panic or other problem. The machine wakes from this state just fine, It's simply not turning off the backlight. Screen saver starts up fine as well, but when the screen should go black, it goes white instead. Any ideas? This is a stock EDP install except the stock (broken!) VooDooHDA sound package has been replaced with the latest one that works fine (once I flipped the half-volume fix to on). Other screen-related issue is no support for brightness keys but that's not important to me. TIA!
  13. D820, NVidia Graphics Latest MyHack and EDP MyHack install goes fine until end of Apple install, then screen goes white and reboot necessary. Manually run MyHack again to install extra and then reboot, interrupt to switch boot to HD. Run MyHack again to install Chameleon. Reboot direct from HD. No sound or wifi (even though Broadcom card) but screen is hi res and wired enet is working fine. Update to 10.6.8 MyFix Reboot ok, same as before but now 10.6.8 Run EDP. Reboot. Screen now low res and even wired enet broken. FUBAR! I am also trying to get 10.7.4 on this machine and that's broken too (can't even install). Looking around at other posts, something is badly hosed about the D820 configs. [update: D620 config with D820 left screen res hi but still broke wired enet. disabling the hardware wifi switch in BIOS got the wifi card working. trackpad not working but manual EDP config based on d620, changing ps2 to selection 2 (not 4!) got trackpad limping along but it takes 5 full pad swipes to cross the screen. Sleep does not restore screen brightness on wake.]
  14. Sigh. The legitimate (I paid for) copy I have is 10.7.4 Is there a boot argument that will wedge this?
  15. I also see there's a custom BIOS elsewhere on this site for the D820. I hesitate to try it though given the problems I'm having with what looks like it should be a plug and play install.
