  1. Intel wifi is what it came from the factory with: 0c:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection [8086:4222] (rev 02) I replaced it with a Dell DW1505 BCM4321 Card, which was an exact fit, including attachment to the two antenna wires. The Apple OSX installer recognized it immediately as "airport" and asked to select router and provide password.
  2. Looking back on my first post in these forums and at the changelog for the EDP project on google, I see that I successfully ran EDPtool.command on February 20, and that major changes to the console interface took place starting February 24. I suspect that is why I'm having problems reproducing my success with EDPtool from several weeks ago. Hopefully some more fixes will bring the console interface back to life! The error message "The application cannot be opened because it has an incorrect executable format", is certainly suggestive. Many thanks for your hard work. I look forward to future improvements to the console so that I can once again run EDPtool. Update: I looked through my backup discs and found the earlier EDPtool file, kexts, and support files that worked for me on February 20. I manually copied these to my fresh 10.6.8 install, ran the older EDPtool console, held my breath and I now have full notebook functionality (with the exception of wired ethernet). The Inspiron E1705 GMA 950 Core Duo really can work as a Latitude D620, if one is willing to upgrade the wifi chip. But the current iteration of Install EDP won't get it there, unfortunately.
  3. One of the experienced Forum hands suggested I use Dell Latitude D620, GMA950 - 1440x900, and it worked perfectly except I never got the wired ethernet working. Now that I have a Dell 1505 Broadcom wifi installed, I can do without the ethernet as OSX picks up that card automatically.
  4. My E1705 is only Core Duo, so no Lion. Do you want to see screenshots of the error messages then with 10.6.8 installed? Still no usable edptool or through Safari. What baffles me is that I had the post-install stuff up and running a few weeks ago when I didn't know what I was doing.
  5. Thanks! That is what I understood. For best test of your changes, should I do clean install of 10.6.0 ?
  6. Leon, thanks for looking at this. Since my last post I went ahead and applied 10.6.8 combo. Still no go with latest re-installed EDP. Should I go back and do a fresh install of 10.6.0 ? And then try your changes? And when you say "reinstall EDP", do you mean run the "Install EDP" program that is downloaded as part of the post-install protocol?
  7. I've attached a screen shot of error message from EDPtool and of Safari "loading" wheel spinning (still spinning after 30 minutes) on that URL.
  8. After fresh virgin install of 10.6.0, launching EDP app and entering password generates the message I reported above in first post: "No matching processes were found PHP 5.4.12 Development Server started at Tue Mar 5 18:05:25 2013 Listening on http://0.0.0.0:11250 Document root is /Extra/bin/html Press Ctrl-C to quit. The application cannot be opened because it has an incorrect executable format. logout [Process completed]" Ticking in the link in Safari generates the error: Safari can't connect to server "0.0.0.0". This exercise also leaves the computer in an unbootable condition, until I run myhack and myfix from usb install stick. Which gets me back to my original bug report that the directions on the osxlatitude.com website are insufficient for post-install. There is clearly something else that is supposed to be done -- even if it is just the info that some later combo install of Snow Leopard (but which one?) is needed for 10.6.0 installers, before running Install EDP. (I'm now wondering if my initial "newbie" success at running Install EDP several weeks ago was due to there being a link present at that time to an older version.)
  9. I'll have to do a total fresh reinstall to give you the "virgin" message, but the message I get after repairing my 10.6.0 install using myhack and myfix from my usb stick (after trying to run EDP unsucessfully the first time from my boot drive) is Dialog Box: EDP Can't get class docf "edptool.command" of class cfol "Extra" of class sdsk of application Finder. This when I run EDP app from /Applications. I'll go ahead and do yet another fresh install so I can give you the "virgin" report. But it takes about 40 minutes. Just FYI, if I run the Safari command right now, it obviously won't work and I get message: Safari can't connect to the server. BTW, should I be upgrading to 10.6.8 (an additional 20 minutes) before messing with Install.EDP ? It's possible that the latest version can't support 10.6.0.
  10. I am giving up on wired ethernet for now. My Dell 1505 wifi card finally arrived from Hong Kong yesterday and it works great! The OS accepts it as native airport. Have moved my concerns to the EDP > Bugs forum, as I cannot comlete post-install following the directions written on the osxlatitude.com website. Thank you all for your replies, but please respond to my new post if you have the secret to making the current Install EDP program work as described. https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/2183-post-install-directions-for-myhackedp-are-insufficient/
  11. If I follow these steps: "Download our Install EDP.app, from our download page. Run the app from the Install EDP.dmg, it will run all tasks automatically. After installation, it will popup our EDP script. Type your password, then you should see the EDP menu." I always get this result after running the Install EDP program: "No matching processes were found PHP 5.4.12 Development Server started at Tue Mar 5 18:05:25 2013 Listening on http://0.0.0.0:11250 Document root is /Extra/bin/html Press Ctrl-C to quit. The application cannot be opened because it has an incorrect executable format. logout [Process completed]" Some step has been omitted from the post-install directions, it would seem. Aside from the failure of post-install, the previous steps for installation work OK. Hardware is Inspiron E1705 GMA 950, 2 gig RAM, and newly-acquired Dell 1505 Broadcom wifi, which is recognized immediately by OSX. Using bootpack for Dell D620. Starting from 10.6.0. But post-install steps also fail if I apply combo update 10.6.8. The combo update also installs and boots without issue. But without being able to run the post-install steps, things like sound and sleep don't work. This is a fresh install. (I could swear I got through the post install stage OK a few weeks ago using a wifi dongle. Wired ethernet has never worked, so I have been dependent on wifi.) BTW I have fresh installed the OS MANY times to try to make this work. Please help! Thank you. The only other relevant info that I can think of is that I created my myhack+edp usb stick about 3 weeks ago, but am trying to complete post-install now. If this is an issue, then the formal instructions should say so, IMHO.
  12. I have added the deletion of that plist to the other steps. Unfortunately the results are the same: self-assigned IP address with no connection to router.
  13. If you mean have I deleted them from System Preferences > Network, then the answer is yes. If there is some other place I should delete something, then I'm not sure. Again, thank you.
  14. Thank your for that kext. I installed it and ran full myfix -t /Volumes/MacHD and rebooted. Using DHCP I get a self-assigned IP address starting with 169.254.x.xxx and cannot connect to my router. The Status is "Connected" but with Orange dot. If I manually configure the IP numbers I get a Green dot, but still can't connect to my router. If I boot with a linux live cd, I connect OK to my router and the internet - so my hardware and wiring seem to be OK. As I mentioned at the end of my other thread on this topic, my other (iFail) partition no longer connects to the ethernet if I use the osxlatitude bootloader system, but it does connect OK if I select that partition using an iboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) CD. I should note that I am successfully running 10.6.8 - although my install started from 10.6.0. Only wired ethernet is an issue at the moment. I have ordered a Broadcom 1505 wireless card, but it has not arrived yet and that may or may not be another issue/challenge.
  15. When I run /Extra/bin/lspci -nn I get the message "lspci: Cannot find any working access method." I get the same message if I sudo su before running the command. The general specs should be much the same as I posted in the first post of this thread, saved from when I ran lspci from Linux on this hardware before upgrading the RAM and BIOS. If you can advise me on how to get the lspci command to work under the osxlatitude install, I would be grateful. If necessary, I could use a live Linux distro again. Thanks all, for your replies. Update: From a linux live cd, the results of lspc -nn today are the same as listed above, with the exception that the final line above is gone, as I have turned off the builtin wireless in the BIOS. 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub [8086:27a0] (rev 03) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:27a2] (rev 03) 00:02.1 Display controller [0380]: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:27a6] (rev 03) 00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller [8086:27d8] (rev 01) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family PCI Express Port 1 [8086:27d0] (rev 01) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family PCI Express Port 2 [8086:27d2] (rev 01) 00:1c.3 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family PCI Express Port 4 [8086:27d6] (rev 01) 00:1d.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #1 [8086:27c8] (rev 01) 00:1d.1 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #2 [8086:27c9] (rev 01) 00:1d.2 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #3 [8086:27ca] (rev 01) 00:1d.3 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #4 [8086:27cb] (rev 01) 00:1d.7 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB2 EHCI Controller [8086:27cc] (rev 01) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge [8086:2448] (rev e1) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge [0601]: Intel Corporation 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Bridge [8086:27b9] (rev 01) 00:1f.2 IDE interface [0101]: Intel Corporation 82801GBM/GHM (ICH7-M Family) SATA Controller [IDE mode] [8086:27c4] (rev 01) 00:1f.3 SMBus [0c05]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family SMBus Controller [8086:27da] (rev 01) 03:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX [14e4:170c] (rev 02) 03:01.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394) [0c00]: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C832 IEEE 1394 Controller [1180:0832] 03:01.1 SD Host controller [0805]: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C822 SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro Host Adapter [1180:0822] (rev 19) 03:01.2 System peripheral [0880]: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C592 Memory Stick Bus Host Adapter [1180:0592] (rev 0a) 03:01.3 System peripheral [0880]: Ricoh Co Ltd xD-Picture Card Controller [1180:0852] (rev 05)
  16. So where do I go from here? I have posted the vendor and device ids and limited the dma to 1024. I have also tried BCM440xxx kexts from the 9400 and my successful iFail install. One useful piece of info I can add. I have another partition with the iFail S3V2 install running 10.6.8. Ethernet worked fine on it until did the myfix + edp install. Now if I boot into that partition, ethernet reports a self-assigned address. But if I use an iboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) CD to select the iFail partition, ethernet works OK. Does that suggest any diagnosis of what the cause of the problem might be? Again, thank you for your help & patience.
  17. I have done this now. (It does not appear to make a difference.) At best, using "configure with DHCP" using the ethernet cable normally plugged into my Mac Mini, I get a self-assigned IP internal address and no connection to my router. At least I'm not getting a "no ethernet cable connected" message. But I can't connect to my router even if I assign correct IP numbers everywhere, manually rather than via DHCP.
  18. I believe that info is in this line of the lspci dump in my other post: 03:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX [14e4:170c] (rev 02) If not, please let me know where to look. Again thank you!
  19. Thank you for that. It did allow me to install the kext, but something else must still need to be done, as the computer insists that no ethernet cable is connected. I'll use my wifi dongle instead for now.
  20. My previous successful install (using iFail3v2) installed the AppleBCM440XEthernet.kext, which I notice is present in boot pack for the Inspiron 9400. However, I used the boot pack for a D620 GMA install this time, and it has the AppleBCM5751Ethernet.kext in the Extra/Extensions of the bootpack. I don't see that file actually installed on my hard drive, however. What steps need to be taken to get the AppleBCM440XEthernet.kext properly incorporated into my installation, so I can get wired ethernet working?
  21. After trials and tribulations reported here: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/2149-inspiron-e1705-gma-950-goes-black-before-os-install-screen/ my Inspiron e1705 seems to be running grand on 10.6.8 as a Latitude D620 - except that my wired ethernet doesn't work. Any suggestions? Installing the AppleBCM440XEthernet.kext file from a prior iFail install (using Kext Utility) allows ethernet to at least show up in System Preferences > Network, but it won't work either manually or by DHCP. At the moment I'm successfully using an Edimax EW-7811Un wifi dongle, but I'd like to get wired ethernet working right. OT, but I was so pleased that the MyHack+EDP install let SLEEP work, that I've even ordered a Dell 1505 wifi card to replace the wifi dongle for this beast. Many thanks! Update: after a two-week wait for the 1505 card to arrive from Hong Kong, I've given up on my quest to make wired ethernet work, because I got nowhere with it and the 1505 card works perfectly as airport.
  22. Install seemed to go OK, except I have no ethernet or internet. Instructions said to post in forums to find out how to solve this, so here goes! I have wired ethernet cable going to the Dell. And this worked with my iFail install OK. Can also try adding an Edimax EW-7811Un wifi dongle which also worked OK previously. But would prefer to know the secret to getting the wired ethernet going. Again, thanks! Update: I used the wifi dongle to get internet connectivity and ran the EDP installer. Haven't run the actual app, yet though, as I'm worried about which Dell model number to use. Likely d620 gma, but it didn't give me wired ethernet on first install, so I'm wondering ... Update2: after a second reboot since using the wifi dongle, I can no longer boot from the hard drive -- unless I use my MyHack usb stick to select the boot partition. If I select the boot partition when starting without the usb stick, the computer just sits with no HD activity. Booting from the hard drive using -v I get Loading Darwin 10.6 Loading kernel /mach_kernel Read HFS+ file: [hd, 0,2)/mach_kernel] 4096 bytes Read HFS+ file: [hd, 0,2)/mach_kernel] 7454537 bytes and it stops there. BIG PROGRESS! Using MyHack+EDP stick is booted into partition on hard drive. Ran EDPtools from /Extra to fix things and now my e1705 boots from hard drive and MIRACLE ... SLEEP WORKS! But I still don't have wired ethernet. Any tips there would be appreciated. But SLEEP WORKS! The laptop finally behaves like a laptop should when the lid is closed and the power unhooked.
  23. Just to be clear, are you suggesting to use the d620 bootpack instead of the inspiron 9400 bootpack? Update: this seems to be working. Install of 10.6.0 proceeding OK so far. Is there an explanation somewhere on how safely to apply the 10.6.8 combo update to this system? Again, many thanks!
  24. I am following the Snow Leopard procedure for the Inspiron 9400, which is supposed to be another name for the e1705 in North America. Have Intel GMA 950 graphics, a Core Duo processor, A10 BIOS, and 2 Gig of RAM - and Snow Leopard 10.6.0 retail - and am making my myHack usb boot stick on a Mac running MtLion. I get to a point where the screen goes briefly white, and then it goes black and I can't tell what is happening any more, aside from seeing activity on the usb stick for 15 seconds more. And additional 10 second activity if I hit return. And the same if I hit return after that. But then no more activity on the usb stick. No sound during any of this. In truth, none of the other hackintosh install procedures I have tried have gotten past the screen going black -- aside from using iFail S3V2, which works without a hitch (except for broken sleep behavior unacceptable in a laptop). UPDATE: I realize that the guide for iFail that worked was from this forum! Here: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1392-how-to-mac-os-x-snow-leopard-on-dell-inspiron-e15056400/ I'm wondering if the tricks from this can be used to make MyHack+EDP directly usable. But should the MyHack+EDP system be able to install on this Dell - or is the GMA 950 a no-go? (I only just chanced upon this forum today.) When I tried several weeks ago to use MyHack without EDP, I got similar results. Many thanks! Prior to upgrading the BIOS to A10 from A06 and upgrading RAM from 1 Gig to 2 Gig, the results of lspci run from Linux (which was temporarily installed) looked like this: 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub [8086:27a0] (rev 03) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:27a2] (rev 03) 00:02.1 Display controller [0380]: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:27a6] (rev 03) 00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller [8086:27d8] (rev 01) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family PCI Express Port 1 [8086:27d0] (rev 01) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family PCI Express Port 2 [8086:27d2] (rev 01) 00:1c.3 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family PCI Express Port 4 [8086:27d6] (rev 01) 00:1d.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #1 [8086:27c8] (rev 01) 00:1d.1 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #2 [8086:27c9] (rev 01) 00:1d.2 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #3 [8086:27ca] (rev 01) 00:1d.3 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #4 [8086:27cb] (rev 01) 00:1d.7 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB2 EHCI Controller [8086:27cc] (rev 01) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge [8086:2448] (rev e1) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge [0601]: Intel Corporation 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Bridge [8086:27b9] (rev 01) 00:1f.2 IDE interface [0101]: Intel Corporation 82801GBM/GHM (ICH7-M Family) SATA Controller [iDE mode] [8086:27c4] (rev 01) 00:1f.3 SMBus [0c05]: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family SMBus Controller [8086:27da] (rev 01) 03:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX [14e4:170c] (rev 02) 03:01.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394) [0c00]: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C832 IEEE 1394 Controller [1180:0832] 03:01.1 SD Host controller [0805]: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C822 SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro Host Adapter [1180:0822] (rev 19) 03:01.2 System peripheral [0880]: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C592 Memory Stick Bus Host Adapter [1180:0592] (rev 0a) 03:01.3 System peripheral [0880]: Ricoh Co Ltd xD-Picture Card Controller [1180:0852] (rev 05) 0c:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection [8086:4222] (rev 02) I have tried the following MyHack installer boot flags: -v -v -x -v PciRoot=1 -v GraphicsEnabler=No -v cpus=1 -v npci=0×2000 -v npci=0×3000 and multiple combinations of these. I have also set a system password in the BIOS, as that was recommended as a solution for some black screen sleep problems.
