Lost-Entrepreneur439
Specs: CPU: Intel Core i7-6600U GPU: Intel HD Graphics 520 RAM: 1x16GB SK Hynix 2400MHz DDR4 Touchpad: ALPS I2C Audio: Realtek ALC256 Wi-Fi: Intel 8265 Ethernet: Intel I219-LM SSD: SK Hynix SC308 256GB Issues: The touchpad lags, like it's rapidly disconnecting and reconnecting. This is a bug in AlpsHID. As of right now there's no fix, you're better off using the touchscreen or USB mouse. BIOS Settings: You will likely have issues if you don't set these. General -> Boot Sequence -> Boot List Option -> UEFI General -> Advanced Boot Options -> Disable "Enable Legacy Option ROMs" System Configuration -> SATA Operation -> AHCI Security -> CPU XD Support -> Enable "Enable CPU XD Support" Secure Boot -> Secure Boot Enable -> Disabled Intel® Software Guard Extensions™ -> Intel® SGX™ Enable -> Disabled Performance -> HyperThread control -> Enabled POST Behaviour -> Fastboot -> Thorough Virtualization Support -> Virtualization -> Enable "Enable Intel Virtualization Technology" Virtualization Support -> VT-D for Direct I/O -> Disable "Enable VT for Direct I/O" Make sure your BIOS is up to date, as having an outdated BIOS can lead to macOS compatibility issues. As of Oct 12, 2026, the latest version is 1.41.3. You can get it from Dell's website. Creating the installer: While you can create an installer using Windows or Linux, I will only cover creating an installer from macOS as it's the most reliable way. Grab the macOS Monterey installer from the App Store (note: It will not upgrade/downgrade your macOS version, you can exit the installer after it downloads), if you are on a Mac/SMBIOS that does not support Monterey, use Munki's script and transfer the installer to your Applications folder. Get a USB drive that's at least 16GB, format it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" with a GUID Partition Map and name it "MyVolume", and run the following command (note: If you use a MicroSD card, you will have to use a USB adapter, macOS will not boot from the internal SD card slot and will give the error "Still waiting for root device") sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Monterey.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume Once the installer is created, download my EFI and CorpNewt's MountEFI script from GitHub. Mount the EFI partition on your USB using MountEFI, and copy my EFI folder to your USB's EFI partition. Download GenSMBIOS and open it. Select option 1 to install MacSerial, afterwards, select option 3, and type "MacBookPro13,1". Go to Apple's Check Coverage page, and copy your generated Serial here and press submit. You should get the error "The serial number you’ve entered isn’t valid. Please try again.", if it returns a real Mac, generate a new SMBIOS and check again, using SMBIOS details from a real Mac will lead to issues. Once you have your invalid SMBIOS details, copy the SMBIOS details to PlatformInfo -> Generic (if you don't have a plist editor, I recommend ProperTree) Type -> SystemProductName Serial -> SystemSerialNumber Board Serial -> MLB SmUUID -> SystemUUID Apple ROM -> ROM Save the plist file and eject your USB drive. Installing macOS: Insert the USB into your 7480, press F12 to go into the boot menu, and select your USB. Select "Install macOS Monterey (External)" and press enter. Once macOS recovery boots, open Disk Utility, go to the View section and select "Show All Devices". Select your SSD, press "Erase", select the Scheme "GUID Partition Map" and Format APFS. The name does not matter. Afterwards, close disk utility, and go to Reinstall macOS Monterey and follow the instructions. Post install: Download MountEFI on your 7480, mount your USBs EFI, and copy the EFI folder to anywhere on your SSD. Remove the USB afterwards, and mount your SSD's EFI, and copy the EFI folder to your SSD's EFI partition. macOS should now be fully functional on your 7480.
