Spent some time on the Bluetooth... Based on what I see under Linux, I should be seeing a BCM2046B1 device which appears as a USB hub. Under it should be the actual HCI device and two composite devices for Bluietooth Proxy mode. Under Mavericks, though, all I see are the hub and the two Composite devices, no HCI device. I assume that this is a firmware or initialization error with the device, but am not sure where to proceed to fix it. Thanks again... JR

I was afraid of that... apparently, though, as long as I use the E6400 DSDT, I can also use an unpatched AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement kext. So, current status: - Running Mavericks 10.9.1 - EDP build for Precision M4400 using unpatched AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement - DSDT.aml replaced with one from Latitude E6400 bootpack - Chameleon configured to generate P&C states Question: Is there anything I can run to make sure that P&C, SpeedStep, etc. are working correctly? A couple of remaining issues: 1) WiFi- My own fault... I replaced the Intel card with a DW1397 without checking to see if it was compatible with Mavericks. 2) Bluetooth- System Profiler shows a BCM2046B1 device on one of the USB busses. As far as I can tell, this is a supported device, but I can't seem to make the correct change to get mine recognized. Suggestions? 3) Keyboard- Working, except for the fact that only the right-side Control key is working which really screws with my muscle memory. 4) SDHC reader- not working even though I installed VoodooSDHC and modified the plist for the PCI address of my reader. Comments/suggestions welcome. Thanks for all the help so far. JR

Update... It seemed like I was closer to working sleep when I was using the E6400 bootpack so, on a whim, I swapped in the E6400 DSDT.aml file. Suddenly, sleep is working both with lid close and from the Apple menu. To sumarize my current config: 1) EDP build for M4400 using NullCPUPowerManagement and no SleepEnabler 2) DSDT.aml from Latitude E6400 bootpack 3) Chameleon generating P&C states (not sure if this is necessary) JR

I tried the suggested approach and something in that combination is causing a repeatable hard hang shortly after boot, so I'm back to NullCPUPowerManagement.

New problem... if I run EDP and take the default options (NullCPUPowerManagement=OFF, use patched AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement) for the M4400, I get a panic on reboot: "Attempt to re-register power management interface--AICPM present in xcpm mode" which appears to be coming from AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext If I enable NullCPUPowerManagement and SleepEnabler in EDP, I can boot with no issues. Which brings me to the next issue, sleep or, rather, the lack thereof. Admittedly, sleep is listed as unsupported on the model page. As it stands, closing the lid has no affect and selecting SLEEP from the menu produces a state more akin to unrecoverable catatonia (i.e., I have to force power off and reboot). Any suggestions? Thanks....

Well, before reading your response, I decided to skip 10.8 and try 10.9. With Mavericks, the boot completes and I can install the OS. Still assessing things, but one quick note... the M4400 bootpack does not include any PS/2 kexts. As a result, the keyboard and trackpad are unavailable until EDP is run.

I'm trying to install ML to a Precision M4400 with a QE9300 processor and nVidia FX770M graphics. Based on my read of previous threads, I seem to be hitting every issue in the book. I built a myHack installer for 10.8 using the M4400 bootpack. I can boot the USB stick, but the boot hangs at the point where it reports that the RTC has 128 bytes of memory. The best luck I've had so far was a 10.7 install using the bootpack for the Latitude E6400. This installs and boots fine as long as I don't try to run EDP. Doing an E6400 build with EDP gets me a system which does not recognize the KB or mouse and will not even work with a USB keyboard (USB mouse moves, but I can't click anything). The best I've been able to do is to use the E6400 bootpack with the addition of the Intel E1000 Ethernet driver and Voodoo audio. Help, please.... JR

I have a D820 from $WORK with 4 GB RAM which I upgraded with a T5500 CPU for 64-bit compatibility. It is currently running Lion with no issues. Could I install ML or even Mavericks or is there some other limitation which would stop me? (EDP compatibility page only lists 10.6 and 10.7.) Thanks... JR

Understood. I had hoped it might be enough for World for Warcraft, but that's okay; I've got some older games that should run very nicely on it. Thanks again... JR

My first Hackintosh was a D630 with Intel graphics from $WORK. I love that box, but was disappointed by any attempts to run games on the system. This I blamed on the x3100 graphics. Recently, I installed SL on a spare D820 with the nVidia NVS 110M chip to see how it would fare. According to Xbench, it is much faster in both OpenGL and UI areas, but my first attempts at gaming have been almost as bad as the X3100. So, I was wondering... how good is the NVS 110M as a graphics chip? Is there something else that might be going on? Thanks... JR

I am using VoodooHDA. I changed the iGain setting (reset kcache, etc.) and it is better though still a bit loud. Still, I can mostly get by using the gain controls in individual applications (iTunes, etc.) so all is well. Thanks... JR

I recently installed SL on a D820 with a Core Duo and nVidia graphics. Everything seems to be working fine except for an issue I'm having with sound- IT'S TOO LOUD! Basically, at the lowest setting (one above mute), the sound is already loud. At the highest setting, it is extremely loud and distorted. My previous experience has been with a D630 (Intel graphics) where sound seems to work as expected (quiet at low, loud at high). Have any of you seen this before? Any suggestions? Thanks... JR

Thank you... that did the trick. John

I ended up upgrading to Lion, using a spare HD. That was fun... initially it wouldn't boot (GPT Error) until I installed the bootloader by hand. For a while, it wouldn't get an IP from my home wireless network, but that seems to have straightened out. As for Bluetooth and Wired Ethernet, both now resume from sleep as they are supposed to. One new nitnoid... My keyboard seems to work fine (except for the key to the left of "1", though Lion claims I don't have one. Instead, it starts the Bluetooth Keyboard Setup program on each boot. Any suggestions or should I just live with that one? I tried your kext, but it doesn't seem to have an effect (i.e., I still can't turn BT on/off). Thanks... John

I recently installed SL (10.6.8) on my D630 (Intel graphics, 1280x800, Bios A17) using the instructions here. For the most part, everything works fine and I am very happy with the installation. I do have two minor annoyances, though, and am hoping that someone might have some advice: 1) Sometimes, upon waking from sleep, I lose the Bluetooth adapter (i.e., "no adapter connected") until I reboot. I'm not sure what version of the adapter I have (360, I think). Would changing models give me a more consistent result? 2) My wired ethernet connection also seems to sometimes go south after waking from sleep. In this case, it looks like the adapter is present, but not connected. I've tried plugging the cable into both the docking station and into the computer directly, but it makes no difference. Again, this persists until I reboot. (FWIW, I rate this more as an annoyance as I primarily use the Wireless (DW1390) connection.) Thanks for any advice... JR

Is this a power issue? I thought the 4-pin Firewire ports didn't supply the 24VDC.

It should be fixable. I had similar trackpad issues on a D630. To fix it, I re-ran EDP and picked the specific drivers for my model. Before having it install the drivers, though, I selected a different KEXT for the trackpad and keyboard. In my case, I had the best results with the default myHack driver, but YMMV. Everything now works fine for me, except no two-finger scrolling. JR
