  1. I tested my VGA port yesterday while running A12, 10.8.4. Pressing Fn-F8 while at the chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) boot loader successfully moves my display to the VGA port. I can then boot and have my display work as expected. However, trying to switch between LCD and VGA while booted into MacOS causes my system to hang. Which is fine for me. I don't use VGA a whole lot (other than the dock).
  2. I just upgraded. The installer failed at the very end but a reboot shows everything up to date. My wifi stopped working but re-replacing airportd in /usr/libexec fixed that. In fact; I'm guessing the installer failed because my wifi stopped working during the (as a consequence of) the upgrade. So upgrading while hard-wired might be best.
  3. I've had this system for over 2 years. Used to run Win7 on it, then Solaris for the past year. No issues with fuzziness etc. and no sore eyes. I'm putting it down to Mac's anti-aliasing, font smoothing etc. I've switched most fonts over to Verdana and it seems to help but overall I think my eyes need to adjust to Mac OS rather than anything else.
  4. I can't put my finger what it is. The fonts in general seem a little fuzzy. But still readable. I'm not sure that I could capture it in a screenshot. I just installed f.lux now. I'll see how that goes. Thanks!
  5. I now have a running 10.8.4 system with everything working. I initially had the Intel HD motherboard and couldn't resolve my graphics issues (artifcacts; no flash etc.). I replaced the motherboard with an Nvidia GPU'ed board and everything is groovy now. However; I'm getting bad headaches from using the system (I use it for work - so typically 8 hours a day). I have: WXGA+ LCD screen Nvidia GPU 1440x900 @ 60Hz I suspect the issue is related to LCD font smoothing /anti-aliasing. I've tried several options for: defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 2 but none seem to help. Is anybody else having this problem. I know it's somewhat personal preference but if anyone can offer some advice. After all this work; I really would like to be able to use this system on a daily basis but after an hour of work my eyes really start to hurt. Thanks!
  6. I didn't have any luck with my video artifacts. The main issue is playing flash content (which I don't do a lot of) and window flickering when I open a new tab in Safari (it defaults to the history/bookmarks page). Wondering if anybody has successfully gotten it to work with the Intel GMA chipset? If not - I may splurge on a used MoBo with the Nvidia NVS 3100M graphics card on Ebay and just gut my laptop. I tried various combinations of smbios configs (MBP8,1 MBP9,1, MBP5,1) without success.
  7. Thanks Herve. Very useful article indeed. I started by updating my FakeSMC to 5.1.59. I'm a little confused with the smbios changes though. I edited the 5.1.59 kext to change my smbios from 1.33f8 to 1.70f5 (my system is an E6410). But I'm not sure if I correctly applied the change. Step10 of your article says: - How do I do that in the Chameleon Wizard? - Under the SMBios tab; I see /Extras/smbios.plist. Can I just copy my modified FakeSMC/Contents/Info.plist to /Extra/smbios.plist? - Do I need to 'Install' this using the Install tab of Chameleon Wiz? In any case - I tried the above and still get a lot of artifcacts (especially noticable for example if I open a new tab in Safari and it displays the History/Bookmarks page). I will play around with different SMC versions but wanted to make sure I'm doing it right before I go any further. Many thanks!
  8. Hi, I just installed 10.8.4 without any major issues. The only problem I'm seeing is my video playback is very choppy. I have the Intel HD video card and removed the 2 kexts (AppleIntelHDGraphics.kext & AppleIntelHDGraphicsFB.kext) per the guide. The html5 version of youtube seems to work fine so I suspect my issue revolves around flash. I'm running the latest version per Adobe's site. Any advice appreciated. Also - is there some way to contribute centrally. I know separate entities have developed kext wizard, chameleon etc. etc. but this forum (and specifically this thread) is fantastic. I've setup hackintosh's in the past but never with as much ease .
