  1. Hi, I have a D420 and a D630, and a couple other laptops. The Dell D420 has OSX BIOS installed the others do not. I tried running Jack RT(the real time audio for musicians) and It doesn't work on the D420 but works on all other laptops. (USB pen Bootup on same OS and software). A. Can I go back to the dell BIOS? B. What modifications are on the OSX BIOS? I noticed on some Linux Versions I see OSX fly by on the screen on bootup. I wonder if they don't know how to handle the OSX Label? Thanks, -Gordo
  2. I found http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/mac-os-x-guides/24839-os-x-10-6-3-retail-dvd-usb-no-mac-guide.html It had a awesome guide on how to install and dual boot and stuff. Got it to run OSX well and everything worked. Although I did not have enough time to get the triple boot system I desired. The site has various triple boot how to's. though the NBI 0.8.4 RC1 -- NBI_084RC1.img.zip (Net Book Installer) adds some stuff to the MBR so it makes it a bit more challenging for multiboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) operation. On the Dell Mini 10V Everything works. More info http://code.google.com/p/netbook-installer/ http://www.meklort.com/ Looks like meklort is working hard on solutions for Lion and also GMA3150 For me. I bought the system for my daughter. It currently is running Linux Mint 11 and XP. I couldn't get the triple boot running in time for her. And I felt that having the software resources of linux would be better than having OSX. She seems to like Mint pretty well. -Gordo
  3. Hi I was looking on getting my Dell 10V running OSX. I tried with the dell d4x0 bootloader. and it crashes. Any help on this? A simple install usb is what I would be looking to have for everyone. -Gordo
  4. I have a 60gb Renice K3vlar K3E SSD very good and inexpensive drive with good reviews. you can get it from my mydigitaldiscount.com http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/renice-pata-zif-ssd/?&sort=alphaaz&sort_direction=0&xsearch_e11=Renice%20K3VLAR%20E -Gordo
  5. I haven't been able to get coolbook running on my d420 but it worked once before. Magnus from coolbook asked me this. The driver is probably not loaded. What is the output from this terminal command? sysctl -a | grep coolbook Mine didn't report back with anything. Then he asked. What is the model description of your computer? It should be something like MacBook1,1. You can find it in the apple menu -> "about this mac"->"more information". My system doesn't have a model description. I think thats why coolbook cant install Mine didn't even show a description. -Gordo -Gordo
  6. I just updated the BIOS, and it Doesn't speed up the time of boot. I don't think its running correctly. For one when I go to shut down and the log says cannot unmount /home and another folder. the model description doesn't show what system it is in system profiler. Which is needed for coolbook to load its drivers. -Gordo
  7. is that bios update very helpful? -Gordo
  8. Ok got the 10.6.7 installed. It pauses about a minute with a black screen before it starts booting..? so far thats what I have noticed. Thanks for your help! Now to install xcode! -Gordo
  9. Heyya all. I have my D420 running OSX 10.6 and I am a little scared to upgrade. What do I need to do to get upgraded further than 10.6? Thanks, -Gordo
  10. I sofar have been trying to use Coolbook and so far its not been working well for me. I had it working once. but then I reinstalled my system and have been working with the developer on it and still not functioning. I tried the i8k utility and its been working rightaway. though haven't rebooted yet oranything else. -Gordo
  11. Hi everyone. Heres my experience so far. It took me a little to get into the forum. 'registration website issues'. I had Ubuntu 10.10 on my system and very happy with it. Backed up my ubuntu with a software g4l. The iniital OSX install was amazingly easy, I was very impressed! I got cool book running, kinda spotty on being reliably working? Next.. EDP's Time machine backup. All fine and dandy until I tryed backup my Ubuntu and copy it to back to the drive. G4L wouldn't see my Partitions! Well without getting into too much of my headaches and installing OSX a few times and ubuntu a few. My ubuntu install was MBR and couldn't get it moved to GUID, I gave up struggling with it and copied my important data with Ubuntu One and started a fresh install of Ubuntu. I ended up doing a fresh install of Ubuntu after OSX Install. Having partitioned GUID and making split partitions from ubuntu live cd. Setup to run along side another OS. Partitions I used (From memory) 210MB for BOOT 8GB for / 15 GB for /home 2.5GB for Swap 22GB for OSX The Rest for a future Windows install Ubuntu will automatically check for other OS's and list them on GRUB. I did time machine backup, but cool book was not running correctly and then I uninstalled and reinstalled it. now I cannot register it. (I sent a support email off a few days ago..) no response as of yet. Other than my heat issues on OSX until I get Cool book running again. I love it! Dual boot OSX and Ubuntu. Sweetness! Thanks everyone for your amazing install. Cheers, -Gordo
