  1. Thanks for the link Sipart. I appreciate it very much. Here is the problem. I don't have a bootable usb drive made right now. And I am on the road, so I don't have access to the installation discs. The only think I have is the internet to download the files needed. Is there an easy way of creating a bootable usb stick without an install of OSX (since I cannot get into Lion due to the Kernel Panic)...or is there a way of getting into the Disk Utility. Thanks again for the help.
  2. I updated to 10.7.4 on a D630, and got the Kernel Panic. How do I replace AppleACPIPlatform.kext, or for this matter any kext when I cannot get it to the Desktop...when I get a Kernel Panic and cant get past it. Thanks for any help provided.

    Boot Camp

What are the chances of someone using Boot Camp (with a Windows 7 install) on Lion on a Dell d620 or a D630. I did a quick search and didnt find much on it.
  4. Thanks Bronxtech. Is that link right. It looks like it is dealing with ACPI stuff and I was wanting DSDT stuff. Or are the same:)
  5. Thanks Bronxteck. Speaking of DSDT, is there an article or good post that describes how to edit, things to look for etc. I have been reading a lot about it from the post, but really don't know anything about it. Thanks
  6. After doing some messing around with it...I think my ethernet and Wifi (I just got my wifi card) shuts off (and never resumes) upon the computer going to sleep. Is that a common problem. Is there a fix for it. It seems to happen to both my ethernet and now wifi. Thanks for any replies and help.
  7. Ok After doing more troubleshooting, Im about 90 percent sure the black screen has something to do with the Ethernet. Whenever I make a change to my ethernet, whether adding, deleting, I get the black screen on the next boot up. I have the latest Bios Version. I will now check if I have internet in Linux. Thanks
  8. Thanks guys for the responses. Ive recreated the problem. Here is how I did it. I deleted my ethernet settings by hitting -. I then plugged my cable back in and hit + to create a connection. It stayed on yellow status, but I had internet access. I then shut down and rebooted. Black screen occurred again. After logging in, or so I think, hdd light goes crazy and then stabilizes. Shut the top. It nevers goes into sleep mode, (no pulsing led). Open it back up and no video. Hope this helps in you helping me :) Thanks again for the help. Now I will verify the 2 steps Leon wants me to do.
  9. Thanks Leon. I will certainly try those two suggestions. Black Screen Issues: I did this so if someone is searching for it they can find it easier. Also, I have been experiencing startup issues and I think this could be related to my ethernet too. I have read on the post, that some have been experiencing black screens on startup. A majority of the time, my D630 boots up fine, but every once in a while, it goes through the startup screen (white screen with apple Logo ( I should say OSX logo now ) but the next screen after that, where I should log in, I get nothing but a black screen. I feel like I should be starting a new thread on this so we don't get them all tangled together. But I am pretty sure that there is the logon screen there (just black) because when I type my password, the hard drive lights whirls to life and does stuff...I just can't see it. I can't really pinpoint it to me making changes, rebooting it, and then it happening...though it did happen once like that. I thought I pinpointed it to on Bios, instead of the D630 checking for the Docking video, I now have it on Internal Video. I thought this fixed it, but it happened again. Maybe its part of the problem...I have no idea. I was having a severe problem when installing Lion for the second time, I couldn't get passed the startup screens, (Language, time zone, keyboard. etc.) screens because of it going to a black screen every time. I then remembered I went through bios and changed a lot of settings that I really didn't think I needed...I had it on Internal Video, but I changed everything back to default. I didn't have any problems with this the first time installing Lion...everything went perfect (because that was when I changed all the settings to those that I didn't think I needed). I then went back to defaults on everything after installing for the first time, and then I started having the problems with the black screen installing Lion the second time. Does this sound like a common issue. Any solutions that anyone can help me with. I love this forum. Everyone has been super informative and friendly. Thanks
  10. I just got Lion installed on my D630. Everything works great except, I am getting a Unknown State on my Ethernet. I have the Intel Wifi which I am going to get replaced with a Broadcom very quickly, in fact its on its way. But I rather be hooked up for the speed and reliability when I am at home. Here is how the problem progresses. When I first got Lion installed I had to create a new connection (Ethernet) by hitting the + and Ethernet Interface. After a few seconds, the IP address was "recognized" and in the green status. But after time, it completely shuts off and goes in red status. Don't really know what happens, maybe it goes into sleep mode to many times. I really don't know. So I restart the computer, and now I am in the yellow status with No IP address. Every once in a while while in the yellow status, I get internet access, but more times I have no internet access in yellow status. But this has happened to me several times, so its not a one time thing that this has happened. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
  11. I think its nice that we are getting a discussion going about fixing some of these problems. Thats nice. As I mentioned in a previous post, to me it kinda looks like my wifi is being recognized as airport since it doesnt really come up as a 3rd party wifi card. It only list my wired network port and the airport card. But I completely lose wireless when I update to 10.6.7 or 10.6.8--I say that because I really don't know which one it is right now. As mentioned in the post above, could this kinda be why it is acting like this.
  12. Thanks Simeonoff. I appreciate you finding that for me. Thanks again.
  13. Hey don't worry simeonoff I wasnt directing anything at you or anyone else. I just a little frustrated because I don't know anything about Mac. Its mainly a side hobby I have to make a Hackintosh computer. Its interesting the discussion we are having about this and I enjoy reading it a lot. I have a D620, 4gb ram, Nvidia graphics and a Broadcom 1490 card I installed in it. Had it working up until the 10.6.8 update and lost just the Wifi. I am thinking of rebranding, but I just don't have the stuff as of right now, A usb drive that I can dedicate to Ubuntu etc. And I was going away this weekend so I was just wanting a quick fix. So when I do rebrand which I have a question about in itself, this will take care of the problem of updates and losing wifi. I bought the card off Ebay, and it was recognized instantly after messing around with it and on a new install, after I figured out the switch etc. But from what I have read, it recognizes it as a 3rd party card. With this card, to me, it seemed like it recognized it as a Airport Card even though I haven't rebranded it yet. But I am not familiar enough with it to know what it should have looked like
  14. Im getting really confused now. Should I be using the Pacifist way or the smbios.plist way. I understand the Pacifist way...I just dont know what I am looking for. I tried looking last night using Pacifist and Combo update 10.6.3 and I got way to lost. I have no idea where to look in what directories or what file I am even looking for. And the smbios.plist way is way over my head. I am just a newbie and don't even really understand directory structure etc. of the Mac OS so this talk of doing this and that and editing is way over my head. I don't even know where this file is located and even if I find, what I should do with it. Is it a simple cut and paste with a plist file I find on the internet matching the similar specs of my D620 or I have to edit it using ID/Product numbers...I have no idea. So please:) if we mention something like this, please include what I have to do to wet wifi back. I appreciate the help so far very much. I just get really overwhelmed. I like baby steps first and then bigger steps later. Thanks again.
  15. Im getting confused here. So I need to edit the smbios.plist??? Is that right. And if I edit, what do I edit? And what do I put where I need to edit. And when I edit the smbios.plist that will enable wifi to work. I don't need to do anything to my video etc. because that all works. I just need wifi. Any help? Thanks
  16. Hey Bronxtech. Since it looks like we could possibly have the same wifi card, you you let me know what file I should be looking for when I pull the kext out of the 10.6.3 update. And when I do pull it out, how do I install the kext? Sorry about asking about this, but Im pretty new to this stuff still. Thanks again.
  17. Thanks again Bronxteck for the reply. So I use Pacifist to extract kexts. So what your saying is that I need the combo update 10.6.3. I see that Apple still has it on their site. So I will download that and Pacifist. I have the Broadcom 1490 (4311 on the Chip.) So I guess I would the networking Kext would be pretty obvious. Just taking a stab at it, on the Rebranding my wifi card as Airport webpage (on this site), would I use those Product/Vendor IDs as a means of identification. Thanks again for your help.
  18. Same thing happened to me. Thought my Broadcom card went out and took my keyboard off and everything to check it. Wish I would have read here about other people having problems. Can someone please help on how to roll back to the 10.6.7 kexts as mentioned. Thanks for any help provided.
  19. Thanks for the reply Bronxteck. I completely reinstalled last night and I used the System Update to update, so I think I am current. I will check later tonight though to make sure. Now what I should do is download EDP 1.8, which again I will do later tonight. As far as the Broadcom, it is activated in Bios as enabled under Wireless. I know this is a stupid question as this symbol is on everything, but the wireless switch. I can never remember if I or O is on:) I believe it is "I". And I am not too familiar with the switch but it goes to "I" but then I can push it further over and it springs back to "I". Its got a ">>" symbol and an antenna on it. Also it looks like there may be a little LED above the antenna too, but Im not sure because it doesnt light. Its a little black dot as far as I can tell. Can someone please inform how I should turn the Wifi on, or is there some kind of indicator that lets me know it is on. Thanks for any help. Again I have the D620.
  20. Sorry...wasnt thinking. I guess I should put what I have. I have a Dell d620 with Nvidia graphics. 4 gb ram. The believe the rest is pretty standardized as far as D620s are concerned. Thanks.
  21. I am in desperate need of help. I am using the Leppy way of installing as found at http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=178411. It works great and I like it because it is easy to do. But I am finding out that the Leppy way of doing it and OSXLatitudes way of doing it are incompatible to the beginner. Whenever I install Leppy's way and try to run kexts EDP 1.8 I get major problems to the point of having to reinstall. Is that normal. Should I not do that or am I doing something completely wrong. Like for right now, I had a very nice install of Leppy's and then I did the kext install of various fixes and I get the "You need to restart your computer. Hold down....." error. Please any help is greatly appreciated. Please point me in the right direction. Also I just installed the Broadcom 1490 Wifi card and it wasnt being recognized. That is why I went ahead with the EDP 1.8 stuff. Should it have been recognized the next time I start the computer or should I have to install a kext first for it. Thanks for any help provided. Mike
