  1. If anyone is weighing-up the extra effort to perform these tweaks like I was.. don't hesitate.. go for it! The benefits are HUGE. My Dell D630 x3100 feels faster than my late 2007 real iMac? Is this possible? A GeekBench test also seems to confirm it in the scores. Before: 800. After: 2700 - on average almost 3.5x faster. For the D630 X3100 OS X 10.8.4 MLPostFactor v0.3 (I can't speak for the others), after much digging through the forums, I: 1. Removed the following kexts from /E/E/: IntelCPUMonitor.kext NullCPUPowerManagement.kext SleepEnabler.kext VoodooPState.kext (AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext - remove it if you have it) 2. Added GenerateCStates and GeneratePStates to org.chameleon.boot.plist via Chameleon Wizard. 3. SMBIOS plist -> use MB5,1 profile in Chameleon Wizard 4. Hacked and replaced 32-bit FakeSMC 5.2.678 in /E/E/. Modified version here: http://simonbarnett.co.za/downloads/FakeSMC_D630.zip 5. Run full MyFix and reboot.. 6. Hit F2 and disable Intel Dynamic Acceleration (IDA) in the BIOS if you have it enabled. Save changes and fasten seatbelts 8¬]
  2. You are correct.. didn't realise it would cause KP so early-on. I'm more experienced with SL on the D620. I've just donated to OSXlatitude and MyHack.
  3. I have an issue on a second D630 x3100 with KP on boot from MyHack stick with MyFix applied. Before I get started shall I start a new thread, or is this one fine for diagnosing installation issues on that model?
  4. yup, thanks Admin.. thought so : ) For anyone not wanting to dig through the threads I'll post what I found here: http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=18254888&postcount=3432 It is indeed a known issue. The solution for Chrome is to disable hardware acceleration. Chrome - Preferences - Advanced - System - Turn off "Use hardware acceleration when available" Thanks again for your awesome tools, Team OXLatitude
  5. Thanks for a great set of tools and guides, people : ) I accurately followed the guide at: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/2464-installing-ml-on-d630-gma-x3100-with-full-qeci/ My D630 X3100 ML is nearly there.. just a problem with Google Chrome crashing - tried all version: dev, beta and stable. I realise this could be a problem for the PostFactor team, but worth trying here since someone may have the quick answer. In my crash log could this be the clue? ----------- Crashed Thread: 0 CrBrowserMain Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000000 VM Regions Near 0: --> __PAGEZERO 0000000000000000-0000000000001000 [ 4K] ---/--- SM=NUL /Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Chrome VM_ALLOCATE 0000000000001000-000000000001a000 [ 100K] ---/--- SM=NUL Thread 0 Crashed:: CrBrowserMain Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread 0 com.apple.driver.AppleIntelGMAX3100GLDriver 0x14fbf0d6 gldReadFramebufferData + 638 1 GLEngine 0x14c871b2 glReadPixels_Exec + 1503 2 libGL.dylib 0x0b6bba59 glReadPixels + 72
  6. hmm.. could it be possible that whatthefact.com can back-reference my facebook comments. My full thread appears on their site when I comment on it. Will have to test that later..

  7. I held my breath, took the plunge and upgraded the Dell to latest Chameleon - no issues.. I'm working on another project (see below), but while I stick with Snow Leopard for now until the processor is upgraded (possible? available?), suggestions are welcome for modifications to my magic Extra folder now that Chameleon may be taking care of functions previously handled by kexts and boot.plist entries. I will update my guide (I already see that i must remove reference to the GMA950 ROM file - no longer used) When commenting, please add whether tweak is known / working (GMA950 27A2) or un-tested suggestion - big thanks in advance. - them long dark nights with no screen may be revisited in the future.. ...but for now I'm exploring an even darker side of the force: FullWindows-on-a-stick Currently reliably bootable on a wide range of BIOS hardware, I'm researching Mac boot options (using GRUB and PLOP) to make it truly universal.. (eg. if my Dell is unavailable for any reason) It has been done, but tricky so far.. 7USB.tk Mac thread Why? a) It's a useful Hackintosh tool.. Using the stick I've already flashed my BIOS with Apple logo / Mac tweaks with files from this site. Thanks! It's the ultimate IT Support tool for the OS that requires / creates the IT Support industry. eg. I'm seeing a client tomorrow. Will drop off 7USB stick, quickly configure her Laptop to boot USB. When she finishes working (architect / late hours) she will send me an SMS and reboot the machine. TeamViewer is configured on the stick, so I will connect and perform repartitioning operations on the HD to run overnight. Then restart. Fetch stick the following day. Sure there are other LiveCD options and Linux is arguably more powerful / versatile, but this is the most user-friendly, trouble-free option for Windows PCs
  8. Been a while since i checked in here to see if there were any comments - wow, pages worth of advice which has prevented me from many a late night trying to install Lion on a D620 CoreDuo. Much appreciated BTW I posted this updated info for my magic D620 27A2 Extra folder on kexts.com after I found out that it accepted an upgrade to 10.6.8 with no issues: "This is an Extra folder packed with solutions* to get a Dell D620, running Snow Leopard 10.6.6 thru 10.6.8, to have working GMA950 27A2 card. ie. it probably won't work with GMA950 27AE, and definitely not NVIDIA X3100. It has worked on several Dell D620's (GMA950 27A2).. though there was this one.. If you install or restore MacOS 10.6.8 / 7 / 6 (possibly earlier) to an external device on another Mac / hack, all you need to do is drop this folder in, then install AsereBLN (or multifail) to the device. You will then have a bootable Dell D620 to install / clone to / from. *contains:  EFI string for GMA950 in boot.plist  DSDT.aml  GMA950 ROM file  com.apple.boot.plist with many tweaks  kexts carefully selected for 10.6.8 on D620" Based on some of the comments here I will probably go to work simplifying this even further, and besides Lion (and a processor upgrade) calls..
  9. sorry.. second attempt attaching Extra folder.zip Extra D620 10.6.6.dmg.zip
  10. Same here.. My D620 running 10.6.6 rejects the Lion installer, saying it requires certain processors, including Intel Core2Duo (which it is). I tried doing all the hackwork on my real iMac using an external USB hard drive (has been my method for SnowLeopard-on-D620), then booting from the drive on the Dell... black screen Same result using EDP, multifail, MyHack or vanilla install + Extra Same result when I try my magic Extra folder that took me a month to perfect. (I am aware that Lion doesn't use mkext, so I use the boot cache string in com.chameleon.boot.plist). The main issue on my Dell was strangely always the GMA950 27A2 (strange, because it's the one used in MacBooks from the same period). In the end I think it was the efi string that fixed it, but also maybe in combo with many other combinations of kexts, boot.plist strings, DSDT, and a GMA950 ROM which I found in a dark corner of the internet. I've attached the Extra folder - it works like magic for that specific setup (D620 GMA950 27A2 + MacOS 10.6.6). Apart from someone maybe finding it useful, it may also give a clue about my Dell and why it won't accept Lion. Thanks in advance
