I recently upgraded my D620(Nvidia) from 10.6.8 to 10.7.0. I didn't have the time for a full clean install (i.e., formatting the hard drive before running the Lion install), but after some initial hijinks getting the right kexts in place, everything is working great: sound, sleep, speedstep, graphics, etc. However, when I try to activate speech commands, the computer does not seem to recognize anything I say. The microphone is working perfectly well (bars light up in Calibrate, and tested with Audacity), but none of the commands will light up. Additionally, the speech command window (below the speech widget, once speech is activated) does not list any commands. Has anyone else tried this? I'm downloading the 10.7.4 Combo update, and will try again after installing that.

"resolved" by wiping everything and setting up triple-boot (OS 10.6.8, Win7, Win8). Nuke'n'pave seems to have been the only solution.

Every time I launch cwizard (whether manually or from within edptool) it crashes. I don't understand the crash log, but it's attached as a txt file. Any ideas? CWizard crash.txt

The PSA section: or, how I learned to stop worrying and love winload.exe If you're installing Windows 8 onto a triple-boot system with OS X and Windows 7, you may need to use the Windows 7 bootloader FIRST. Chameleon can be run AFTER the Win 7 bootloader if you set things up correctly. This was my experience, posted here for the next poor sucker "brave soul" who tries triple-booting these three together. Your Mileage May Vary (YMMV). Here's roughly what I did: Install OS X from a bootable USB flash drive. Use Disk Utility to create 2 additional FAT partitions (you MUST do this to create a hybrid partition map) Install Windows 7 to one of those partitions. In the Windows 7 setup, you'll need to delete the existing FAT partition and then reformat it as NTFS Install Windows 8 onto the last partition (same deal as Win7 -- you need to delete the FAT partition then create an NTFS partition in the empty space.) Boot to Windows 8 to make sure it works. Reboot, then use the Windows 8 bootloader to get into Windows 7 and verify it works. Smile at how shiny (or sneer at how shiny) the new Win8 multi-boot selection screen is. Reboot: Using the OS X Install USB drive, boot to your LOCAL HDD's OS X environment Run EDP/install Chameleon Reboot: launch Windows 7 (I think I did this from the USB drive, but it should work if Chameleon is running off your local HDD, too). Once in Win7, download EasyBCD (http://neosmart.net/EasyBCD/ - free for non-commercial use) Use EasyBCD to add a new BCD entry for your OS X partition. It's actually a tab on the "Create Entry" screen, making it [almost] criminally easy to do with point-n-click. Use EasyBCD's repair tools to install/repair the MBR and boot files. Reboot and test the Windows 7 and Windows 8 partitions (at this point, they both worked -- but I lost the pretty multi-boot selector Windows 8 provides). Note that you'll be seeing the Windows 7 bootloader (winload.exe) now, not Chameleon. Reboot again: on the Windows bootloader screen, choose the OS X partition You should now see Chameleon, listing ONLY TWO partitions: your OS X partition and your Win 7 partition. If you see the above items, then congratulations! You should be able to select the OS X partition under Chameleon and boot into it normally. (Choosing the Windows 7 partition just takes you back to the Windows 7 multi-boot screen again) If things didn't turn out like this...well, YMMV. Question to the community: I haven't tried dualbooting ONLY OS X and Win 8 -- because of the bootloader issues I had around Windows 8, I'm not 100% confident it could be done (i.e., you may need GRUB or a Windows 7 bootloader in order to boot the Windows 8 partition). Has anyone tried this?

I've had great success using Clonezilla to clone an entire drive (tri-boot, 10.6.0/Win7/Win8 preview). However, things got a lot trickier when I tried backing up/restoring *single* partitions via Clonezilla. I believe this was due to some bootloader/hybrid partition table issues complicated by the presence of Windows 8. However, even after restoring the whole disk (with the "whole disk" image, not just one partition at a time) I still had to repair my bootloaders. Specifically, I had to delete /Extra (using Terminal, when booted from the OS X Install USB drive), use the bootloader off the USB drive to boot into my local HDD's OS X install, re-run EDP (v1.9 on OSX 10.6.0) and then re-install Chameleon. If you're just dual-booting OS X and Win 7 or XP, that should be sufficient. In my case, I then had to go in and repair the Windows 7 bootloader and make it load BEFORE Chameleon. However, the only reason I'm using the Win7 bootloader is because Chameleon seems to have issues loading Windows 8. I haven't determined if it's a problem with my partition map, or if there's some new funky formatting thing that Windows 8 does, causing Chameleon not to recognize the partition correctly. I expect everything to go to heck when I do the 10.6.8 upgrade (and apply EDP 1.9.2), and will probably have to go through all this again

While installing Snow Leopard on my D620/Nvidia, the screen eventually goes black during the install process. If I keep the mouse/keyboard active at regular intervals, this doesn't happen, leading me to believe it's a monitor auto-off screen saver or power saver. Is there a way to prevent LCD blanking during the install process? I'm installing from a USB flash drive, per http://www.osxlatitude.com/creating-a-usb-pen-with-osx-installation-2/

No firmware updates (support page: http://www.rocketfishproducts.com/products/mobile-phones-gps/RF-MAB2.html?supportTab=open) I'm going to try to find another set of bluetooth headphones to test with. Is your motorola set a pair of headphones, or just a regular headset? The headset function (microphone + mono audio) is working fine; it's the headphone function (stereo audio) that I can't get working.

Just replaced it with a dell bluetooth 360, rebuilt EDP 1.9.2, and did all the usual post-build crap that is mysteriously needed (boot -x -f -v, touch extensions, boot -x, touch extensions again, boot -v, offer up ceremonial prayers, etc). Mono works (as bluetooth headset) but although stereo (bluetooth headphones profile) is listed, it doesn't work correctly. The device is a pair of Rocketfish bluetooth headphones, RF-MAB2. Looked around a bit, can't find reliable reports of other users (hackintosh or fanboys) with the same issue. Any further ideas? Thanks!

I'll give it a shot and see if it's more stable. Like I said, I'm a Firefox geek, so I don't really miss Chrome...just want to solve the mystery

No luck after repairing disk permissions. In fact, my system KP'd after doing the repair; had to reboot with -f flag in Chameleon, then reboot again into normal mode. Also tried running chrome with in safe mode (-x flag in Chameleon) but still crashed shortly after opening. Any other thoughts?

Thanks, I'm currently using a 350. Purchasing a 360 on eBay, will see how it works. Hopefully it won't bring the rest of the system crashing down around my ears

D620/Nvidia running 10.6.8 with EDP 1.9.2. All my web browsers work perfectly well, except for Google Chrome. I'm more of a Firefox geek anyway, so it's not crippling -- but it is puzzling. Chrome launches ok, but after about 1 minute of use (sometimes a bit less) I get a KP. If I reboot and don't run Chrome, it'll go for hours...but as soon as I start using Chrome, it crashes all over again. Where would I look to investigate this mysterious crash? Has anyone else seen similar problems?

I have a D620/Nvidia running 10.6.8 and EDP 1.9.2. Bluetooth seems to pair fine (my headphones switch from "discovery" mode to normal "paired" mode) but when when I use the bluetooth system prefpane to "Use as Audio Device", it gives the error "Bluetooth audio failed." I'm not sure how to debug this further. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
