  1. Jake Lo, Thanks for all your help. I got this laptop working really well including Sleep and Wifi. I appreciate your help to me and the rest of the community. FYI, I ended up buying a used Macbook Pro... Though I didn't try too hard, I was unable to get the bluetooth and the trackpad to function 100% like a Mac.
  2. Jake Lo, thank you for your help. The trackpad is working now, I moved ApplePS2Controller to kexts/Other and delete VoodooPS2Controller. I am installing Catalina now.
  3. So I was able to get to the "Install macOS Catalina" screen by using the tab key and the space bar but now I can't select the Catalina hard drive to install the OS onto. Does anyone know how to enable the trackpad or mouse? The mouse pointer is just stuck in the top left of the screen.
  4. There is no way for me to get to that A, as the tab won't take me there and the mouse or trackpad doesn't work. I replaced the whole bootpack, hoping that might fix it but no further yet. Any ideas? FYI, I really appreciate it!
  5. I disabled the following in the bios and now I am able to boot and get into the macOS Utilities screen (after the Language screen). Audio, Camera, Virtualization, Wireless, Bluetooth On the macOS Utilities screen, the trackpad does not function (though the buttons do), external mouse and keyboard do not function, and the ENTER key does not work on the laptop! The end result is that I am unable to enter into Disk Utility to get the SSD formatted, or install macOS. I am using the bootpack from the Monday post, https://osxlatitude.com/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=26030 Any suggestions to get the keyboard working properly?
  6. Jake Lo, Thanks for replying. Yes I did set up the BIOS as listed. Yes that files is there, along with 6 others. I used your bootpack from : So weird thing, I left that last screen there for about 45 mins then, the Apple logo came up withe the bar, then the multi colored wheel, then another black screen with a white box and perhaps I had to choose something, I saw that from a distance and by the time I got to the computer it looked like the screen black out. I could hit a key and the keyboard would light up but the screen remained black. I have to run out and will try it again in a bit but any other suggestions?
  7. Hello, Been trying to install Catalina 15.3 (and also have the the same problem with the latest Mojave). Never get to the actual install screen. Specs: Core i5-6300U, 8GB RAM, SSD 256 (non-NVMe), Intel 520 graphics, WIFI 1820A Bios Ver: 1.3.0 (have tried others, including latest) I have created several USB installers with USB3, USB2 drives. I have followed the guide here for both Mojave and Catalina and used the bootpacks listed: I have used different versions of Clover (including the latest r5103) . Any suggestions would be welcome. Please help! Thanks!
  8. Attached is my Extra folder. I just want to let you know that my system is far from perfect, especially today ... many kernel panics. Can someone point me to any source that can help me better understand the boot up process, troubleshooting, and how/where to log the boot up so that I can find out about the problems. BTW, yesterday, I got the backlit keyboard from ebay; it cost $14 used and though it looks a little shiny in places, I would highly recommend it. It took less than 5 minutes to install. CP Extra.zip
  9. Did you guys do anything to Sleepenabler.kext prior to the update? How does sleep function for you post update?
  10. Darvinko does it again!! Thanks man, that fixed the problem. CP
  11. Does anyone know how to get the correct keyboard selected in System Preferences? I get the Your Keyboard Cannot Be Identified message. I click Skip to go past it and select ANSI (United States and Others). All works fine, except the tilda key is unavailable to me, instead I get this character showing § I would like the tilda key for work in Terminal. CP
  12. I would just like to say a big THANK YOU to this community and to all that have create this thread. Because of your help, I have a Mountain Lion install that is working well with Sleep, two finger scrolling and zoom on the trackpad, and the rest (WIFI, bluetooth, video, audio, card reader, etc...). Today, I ordered a backlit keyboard from ebay for $14! This computer is not quite the MacBook Air that I wanted but I am happy to be using it for now. Thanks again! CP
  13. tehsux88, Thanks for your write up. I tried your method with the trackpad and now have it working. Thanks! CP
  14. Thank you Darvinko; that fixed it for me. Hope you have a great weekend. CP
  15. My WIFI is not working in Mountain Lion, though it is working in Lion. I have a WIFI BCM4315 (Dell 1397). Is there a way to get the kexts from Lion and install them into Mountain Lion. I found the file IO80211Family.kext in S/L/E in my Lion install, used Kext Wizard to install in ML in S/L/E, ran myFix (Full) and nothing happened. Any ideas? Thanks, CP
  16. It was fast but suddenly slowed down. I need to do more checking but it appears that if I close the lid then sleep works well. WIth the computer left on, the Display sleep will work fine, but the Computer sleep locks up my computer. CP
  17. I want to thank you guys so much for helping me. I GOT SLEEP WORKING!!! A couple of little glitches but I'll get there. Anyone having slowdowns at the Dell logo screen with the blue bar progressing to the right?
  18. Bronxteck (and everyone else), Please note that I am somewhat new and am trying to learn, so please take my questions in this spirit. 1. Why not mix the methods? 2. I thought that it was OK to keep \kexts in E/E or S/L/E? 3. What is the preferred method to add a kext, either Kext Wizard, Kext Helper, myHack, others? 4. When and how should you repair permissions? myHack (Full or slow?), Kext Wizard Maintenance Tab, other way (like a script)? 5. I really want to get sleep and standby to work, but my WIFI is not working (it did work in Lion, but I remember having to fiddle with it). My big question is this, if I start adding and removing kexts to the E/E folder and S/L/E folder, and something messes up will I be able to get back to a workable state? Should I copy each of those folders before I add a new kext, fix permissions, reboot to check it is working, Repeat for the other kexts? Being a Windows guy, I could always figure it out; I'm just apprehensive about adding and especially removing kexts from those folders (esp. S/L/E). Thanks for your help, CP
  19. Thanks so much for doing this; I appreciate the effort. I will do this and get back to you. CP
  20. LOL, I know that. My computer locks up and the screen stays dark after I try to resume/wake up my computer. Looking for the exact commands to enable sleep.
  21. patel4prez, Could you please let us know what hardware you have in your computer and what other kexts you put in S/L/E? Also for noobs like me, what exactly did you do to get sleep to work? Thanks, CP
  22. Hello everyone, I would like to be able to get my E6400 to sleep and standby. I was running 10.7.3 and all was working well, except sleep. I installed 10.8 and thought that sleep was working, but it was not (just the screen would go blank). So, this morning I was in the process of reinstalling Lion (10.7) and walked away at the initial install screen. When I returned a few minutes later, the screen was black and the power button was softly pulsing; I clicked the mouse, the space bar, but nothing came up until I hit the power button -- this seems like the computer is capable of sleep. So, is there a way to get the computer to sleep after a specific amount of time or when I shut the lid? Any suggestions and/or comments are welcome. Thank, CP BTW, I'd rather it work with Mountain Lion, but Lion would be cool too.
  23. I was getting the black screen as well, but I switched from using the bootpack from the M4300 to the Lion bootpack of the E6400. Dont forget yo make the changes to the plist file. This worked for me and allowed me to install. I have not done anymore, though I think sleep is working and the computer may be overheating. Good luck.
  24. I did replace it, 435kb file called IOPCIFamily.kext. Maybe I should do it again?
  25. Thanks for this thread. My condolescenes on your loss Darvinko. So I'm unable to get to the install screen, I get a kernel panic ... I believe it stops here : Kext com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform - library kext com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily not found. Can't load kext com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform - failed to resolve library dependencies. Couldn't allocate class "AppleACPIPlatformExpert" ..... /kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1546 I tried with -v -x, to o avail. Any suggestion? Thank you.
