  1. Hi mikeguru, I followed your method for installing Mavericks, but I am hitting a black screen, and then nothing until i hold the power button and turn off. "DSMOS has arrived" is the last thing I see - I tried removing various kexts, etc. I have the default bluetooth wifi card removed from my 3721 (i3/hd4000/500gb), but nothing else installed in its place, yet. Is there any way you could post "baby steps" to just getting the installer set up and booting? I used Uni-Beast and the download of Mavericks from the App store, but made no other changes before booting. Is there something I am missing just to get the installer booting? Kexts I should remove? Boot flags? Thanks in advance.
  2. Doh! I don't know where I got that model then. In any case, I bought a low-profile usb solution that works in os x for $4 shipped from eBay. WIll have that tomorrow, then wait a few weeks to get the AR5B195 from China. You are the man for putting all of this together. EDIT: you actually do say AR5B197 in your first post: " WIFI Preparation: 1. Buy an Atheros AR5B197 from eBay 2. Follow this guide to remove the keyboard http://www.insidemyl...iron-17r-n7110/ 3. Disconnect the two antennae and whip out the old WIFI card, its held in with one screw 4. Put the new card in, secure with the screw and connect the antennae 5. Replace the keyboard " That is why I bought the alternate solution. You might want to change it so other people are not thrown off or spend $20 on the AR5B197 from other websites, or do what I did and buy the generic usb one. No biggie, $4 extra for a versatile wifi solution is still a great price for future projects!
  3. Hi, the AR5B197 is scarce on eBay right now. Would any other card work? The AR5B197 and AR5B97 look to be very similar, the AR5b97 is cheap, about $6. But want to be sure be sure before I order. Living without wireless for now. Thanks.
  4. Ah, sorry about that! Seems obvious but I missed it. This is my second Dell hackintosh, the last was a Vostro 1700. I "wrote the book" on getting it fully working back in 2008. Glad to see Dell outlet is still a good deal-catcher, and that sites like this keep the community strong.
  5. Just bought one of these last night for $326 including tax and shipping from Dell outlet. They have a 20% off coupon that expires on the 17th . Code is W$T8$VV2BKK12D from http://www.dealigg.com/story-Dell-Coupons-Dell-Coupon-Code and go to http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/Online/InventorySearch.aspx?brandId=2201&c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh The cheap ones are gone right now, but check back. Bought mine at 4am It makes this not only one of the very cheapest 17" laptops you can buy anywhere, period, but also one that has the newer i3 processor 3227u with lower power consumption than 3110m, LED, and happens to run OS X beautifully. To top it off, I can play Splinter Cell Blacklist smoothly on it, albeit on low settings! You should also be able to overclock these with the Intel Extreme app. I know I double posted on insanelymac.com, but it is mainly for selfish reasons: the more of us that have this gem of a laptop running OS X, the more likely it is that we can keep running it!
