  1. Hi Alan, You seem to be going in there blind or partially blind. Unless you clearly know what each kext does, your method of adding/removing kexts and then checking resulting impact/behaviour is simply wrong. This is not a lottery where you simply mix things and hope to get the correct combination. That's the impression I got from reading your posts but maybe I'm wrong... You're probably aware that these days, the OS controls power management through a norm called ACPI. The DSDT table is the main table in the ACPI part of a computer's BIOS. It provides to the OS, information about the hardware in order to support/manage it as best as possible. There are tools to extract that table from the BIOS, fix/patch this extraction and compile it for re-use by Mac OS X. Olarila provides such an extraction tool that works from MS Windows. If I were you, I'd simply abandon this ML installation attempt and revert to Lion. There's a good chance that you will get a near-complete installation using the D630 Intel X3100 bootpack (the DSDT table will in all likelyhood be unusable and need deletion from /Extra) since hardware appears very similar on the Vostro.
  2. If you think you deleted something by mistake (like your boot plist - not a good idea), I'd suggest you re-run EDP and re-install your model-specific kexts. That'll rebuild your /Extra folder + plists.
  3. Which audio kext did you install? Try to add the Soundflower tool from EDP.
  4. I've never tried with lower then SL 10.6.3. That's my retail version. If it's possible for you, I'd recommend you try that release.
  5. Tools -> Console Then look in the system log. Place a mark or take a note of the timings if necessary.
  6. Which release of SL are you trying to install? Could you redo your myHack USB key creation and take a note of all your steps to report back?
  7. Here are BIOS settings that are known to work on D620 GMA950 + nVidia 110M under SL, Lion and ML (MLPF). These settings were tested and verified with BIOS A07 + A10. Onboard Devices: . Fast IR = COM2 . Integrated NIC = enabled . Internel modem = enabled . External USB ports = enabled . Integrated USB ports = High Speed . Parallel port = ECP . Serial port = COM1 . PC Card = Enabled Video: . Ambient Light Sensor = Off . Brightness = max . Brightness (AC) = max . LCD Panel Expansion = enabled . Primary Video = Onboard Video Security: . Admin Password = not set . System Password = not set (*** mandatory on GMA950 models or BSOD (=crash) on wake ***) . Internal HDD PW = not set . Password Change = Permitted . Password Bypass = Reboot & Resume Bypass (mandatory on GMA models) . Wireless Switch Change = Denied . Wi-Fi Catcher Change = Denied . CPU XD Support = Enabled . TPM Security = Off or On . TPM Activation = Deactivate or Activate . Computrace® = Deactivate Performance: . Multi Core Support = Enabled . HDD Acoustic Mode = Performance (or any other value) . SpeedStep Enable = Enabled Power Management: . Auto On Mode = Off . Auto On Time = xxxxxx . USB Wake Support = Off (USB wake only operates when laptop is on mains and then causes Sleep/Instant Wake issues) . Wake on LAN/WLAN = Off . Serial ATA DIPM = Enabled Docking: . Undocking Method = Hot Undock . PCI Slot Monitoring = Enabled Silent . Universal Connect = Enabled POST Behavior: . Adapter Warnings = Enabled . Fn Key Emulation = Scroll Lock . Fast Boot = Minimal . Virtualization = Enabled or Disabled (only required to run virtual machines) . Keypad (Embedded) = Fn Key Only . Mouse/TouchPad = Touchpad-PS/2 . Numlock LED = On . USB Emulation = Enabled Wireless: . Internal Bluetooth = Enabled . Internal Wi-Fi = Enabled (keep to Disabled if you have an Intel card, they're not supported and need to be replaced) . Internal Cellular = Enabled . Wireless Switch = All . Wi-Fi Catcher = Enabled The above settings are compatible with sleep/wake mode of operation and use of Wireless on/off switch. BT + Wifi services resume on wake + wireless switch re-activation (Wifi may require manual network re-selection after the latter). 'System password' MUST be set on GMA models for wake from sleep to operate. Otherwise, laptop with crash systematically on wake. nVidia models are not affected by this problem. 'USB Wake Support' MUST be set to Off on nVidia models or laptop will not go to sleep mode but immediately wake. A fix via DSDT patching currently under investigation.
  8. Great to get definitive confirmation that the D830 with nVidia 140m can run ML (and to the latest release of the moment) by following the OSXL/EDP process. Recently, it seemed owners of such models encountered unexplained/unresolved difficulties at installation, whilst the D830 with nVidia 135m appeared Ok. Thanks for sharing.
  9. That refers to installing Mountain Lion, not Snow Leopard, but the overall process is that described at the EDP pages of this site, i.e. in a very brief summary: 1) creation of OS X installation USB key with myHack + copy of model-specific bootpack to /Extra 2) installation of OS X 3) installation of EDP on freshly built Hackintosh + installation of model-specific kexts At this point, if step 1) was properly done (and it appears so) but the D630 still goes to KP, I'd suspect BIOS settings issue. I can't see anything incompatible in the listed hardware...
  10. Check your BIOS settings with what's listed at link below: http://forum.osxlati...-settings-d630/ For example, Naweed reported earlier that he could not boot his ML installation media if XD support was disabled, so you never know...
  11. Last update: 25 Apr 2018 To answer a recurring question, here are BIOS settings that are known to work on D630 with Intel Crestline X3100 and nVidia Quadro NVS 135m GPU under Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave and Catalina (nVidia models only for Mavericks 10.9 and above). These settings were tested and verified with BIOS A16, A17, A18 and A19. Onboard Devices: . Integrated NIC = enabled . Internel modem = enabled . External USB ports = enabled . Parallel port = ECP . Serial port = COM1 . PC Card and 1394 = enabled . SATA Operation = AHCI . Module Bay Device = Enabled . Flash Cache Module = Off . ASF Mode = Off . Microphone = Enabled Video: . Ambient Light Sensor = Off . Brightness = max . Brightness (AC) = max . Primary Video = Onboard Video Security: . Admin Password = not set . System Password = not set . Internal HDD PW = not set . Password Change = Permitted . Password Bypass = Off or Reboot & Resume Bypass (or any other value) . Wireless Switch Change = Denied . Wi-Fi Catcher Change = Denied . CPU XD Support = Enabled . TPM Security = Off . TPM Activation = Deactivate . Computrace (R) = Deactivate Performance: . Multi Core Support = Enabled . Dynamic Acceleration = Off (Can be set to On only with Penryn CPUs, keep Off with Merom CPUs or FSB and therefore CPU speed is reduced) . SpeedStep Enable = Enabled Power Management: . Auto On Mode = Off . Auto On Time = xxxxxx . USB Wake Support = Off (USB wake support operates only when system is on mains and then causes Sleep/Instant Wake issues) . Wake on LAN/WLAN = Off Docking: . Undocking Method = Hot Undock . PCI Slot Monitoring = Enabled Silent . Universal Connect = Enabled POST Behavior: . Adapter Warnings = Enabled . Fn Key Emulation = Scroll Lock . Fast Boot = Minimal . Virtualization = Enabled or Disabled (only required to run virtual machines) . Keypad (Embedded) = Fn Key Only . Mouse/TouchPad = Touchpad-PS/2 . Numlock LED = On . USB Emulation = Enabled Wireless: . Internal Bluetooth = Enabled . Internal Wi-Fi = Enabled (keep to Disabled if you have an Intel card, they're not supported and need to be replaced) . Internal Cellular = Enabled . Wireless Switch = All . Wi-Fi Catcher = Enabled . LAN/Wi-Fi Auto Switch = Off The above settings are compatible with sleep/wake mode of operation and use of Wireless on/off switch. BT + Wifi services resume on wake + wireless switch re-activation (Wifi may require manual network re-selection after the latter).
  12. That's good to know as a behaviour. Thanks for sharing.
  13. Hi, make a list of your hardware specs to start with so that we can evaluate the potentials for OS X installation. There is no specific bootpack for that laptop at the moment, but that's something than can be worked on of course.
  14. You were running version 3 rev 424. EDP is now on version 4, so you can't update v3 any more through the menu. Just download EDP again and install it. You will then be up to v4 r12.
  15. Did you add the EDP Bootpack for D630 nVidia through myHack (=Create /Extra) after creating the SL installation key? Are you running on one of the latest BIOS like A17 or A18?
  16. No other choice but change CPU I'm afraid, unless you're a BIOS re-programming genius who can make the BIOS report your Core Duo as a C2D... Provided your computer supports Core 2 Duo CPUs (a D620 does), upgrade to a C2D. Have a look at Intel's web site for the T7000 family for details. Then, you can look on a well known online bidding site to find one for pennies. Simply check your computer specs, max FSB and socket type and go for a C2D with matching specs. Eg: a T7200, FSB667, 2.0GHz, socket M in a D620.
  17. Ja, ja, 'was just joking! To me, it's very difficult to say. No two persons will have the same idea of "the best" laptop. Unlike desktop, it's not possible to build your own laptop, so it's a matter of comparison between HW supported by Apple and best-matching equipment from laptop manufacturers. And of course, for less $$$ than a MacBook. As for running "whatever gets released next", you can never be too sure... Look at how Apple just dumped support for older 64bit Macs when they introduced ML. You never know what they'll do next.
  18. At the moment, probably a MacBook Pro Retina!
  19. To be honest, don't bother. You can't get graphics acceleration with the Intel X3100 (no 64bit kext + higher graphics requirements needed on ML, like for OpenGL) and those who tried to run ML without acceleration on D630 eventually gave up. Without a supported GPU, graphics performance is bad (I'm told displaying things as trivial as menu bar items now calls on the GPU) as everything has to rely on the CPU itself. On top of that, your Vostro does not possess the most performing C2D (2Mo cache, 1.4GHz ) ... It'd be more sensible to try and run it with Lion. I think you really are wasting your time. But, should you wish to persist... re:DSDT table, you could try to build your own. Have a look at Olarila web site. You can extract a table from Windows (if you can still run Windows on that Vostro) and patch it before you compile it. Try and post your BIOS settings, there could be something to modify. Which bootloader do you use?
  20. I would not worry too much about not seeing any BT items in the Network Pref Pane, unless you use PAN or DUN with a bluetooth. device. In fact, these 2 may require to be added manually -> Press "+" button and see what's offered in the list of interfaces. In the System Preferences however, you should see the BT icon. The other way to open the BT Pref Pane is to click on the menu bar icon and select "Open Bluetooth preferences...". Re: on-board Ethernet, I'd expect the same HW on all D630:
  21. Just stick it in. You'll see soon enough it it works or not...
  22. Here they are: And running Chameleon 2.1svn regularly updated (up to r2063 at the moment):
  23. Windows settings are of little/no use. The hardware specifications are what's required: CPU, Graphics card, Wireless card, Bluetooth, HDD type, etc. The global specs are available off Dell's web site, but there are always specific items like CPU model and/or graphics cards (built-in chipset or discrete card). Your BIOS + Windows device parameters should help you dress the list of HW components of your laptop.
  24. Are you still trying to run ML or did you fallback to Lion?
  25. Nothing specific ever done; it just works, so never had reason to think about it. I still have to test this reported disconnection issue under high traffic though... I'll put a copy of my Chameleon boot plist + SMBIOS details later on, in case the answer lies somewhere in there; doubt it though...
