I'm trying on the same box , got the installer USB 10.8.4 with myHack 3.3.1 when I start the installer it gets all those initial messages then it changes the resolution of the screen, it is supposed to get the messages in a smaller font, on the Inspiron I just get a blank screen and it freezes there, sounds like some video setting??? I did put the Extra there but didnt make a difference. Would you mind sharing your BIOS settings??? Thanks in advance

Had the same problem with the installer seeing the HD when attempting a ML 10.8.4 install tried it all but it wouldn't see the HD I managed to install it by setting the HD as a USB drive then a few tweaks and I got it working, here are my steps http://becker666.blogspot.com/2014/04/ml1084-on-optiplex-745.html when I did SL the myHack created USB just worked

Thanks a lot!!! I installed Chameleon on the disks02 (which has nothing but files) and left everything as it was and it booted up all the way it took a little longer than usual. I'd assume the boot tag is still on the msftres(1st partition) as I din't touch it but this is working and I'll leave it along.

Guys This machine was working beatifully with Lion 10.7.4 the only issue was it wouldn't boot from the HDD i had to use an USB and then point to the partition on the HDD and it'd work bullet proof since I made it about 6 months ago. I installed a lot of my dev stuff in it and it was all working. I was busy doing some coding so I just let it be like that. Now I had some spare time I decided to get it to boot from the HDD, I already had the Chameleon but it wouldnt work and I read somewhere that may be partition is not bootable, I loaded Gparted and I saw some other small parition had the boot flag (this partition was actually msftres after i took the boot flag out of it and set it boot on the partition with HFS. Then I wouln'dt boot took the msftres out by reformatting the small parition to hfs and now when I try to boot from the USB it wouldn't see the Lion partition ... CRAP!!! I had a lot of work on that box with Eclipse/Xcode, lots of things that would be a pain redo. So I rolled it back e.g. reformatted the small partition back to FAT32 and set it as boot, run a check on the HFS lion parition and after a couple of shots I'm back where I was. What a relief!!!!!! So how could I get this to boot from the HDD my lion is on disks03, 1st partition is FAT32 (msftres) 2nd and 3rd are htfs. Thanks in advance.

Appreciate the answer, only issue I had was the WiFi stopped working after the update to 10.6.8 everything else was beautiful , well ..... was playing with the Extra and just throwing darts in the dark, using myHack decided to give it a shot and install the Extra Generic but that one seemed to have completely destroyed my SL , get the infamous waiting on root no matter what I try, booted from the USB got to the cmd line deleted /Extra no difference put back the older IOUSBs kext no diff, copied over the whole S/L/E folder from the copy I made when it worked in 10.6.3 ownership/mode looked fine e.g. root:wheel/755 no diff and it seems to be going worse ... might be more constructive if I just reformat and start over right??? Isn't this fun ... At least it helped when I was doing Lion on my D430 which is up and running Update: was about to nuke it but I thought it couldn't be that this myHack guy doesn't do a backup before messing with it and looking hard I found it under some weird number name, put back the Extra and back it is. I messed around wit the IO80211 still no cigar put me back to the Waiting on root, but easy to get it back now, may be is not meant to be touched past this point Only thing that bugs me is it was working fine in 10.6.3

It's a P4 it'd only run in 32-bit no?? ... I started with the arch switch still no difference. I did make a copy of /S/L/E found the IO80211Family.kext and overwrote/reinstall it but still no luck?

It's been a while but I only had 1GB of RAM maybe that was the issue, I actually ended up installing 10.6 and have it working good now since I posted last. I used the iFail with some of the extras from here and myhack I do have a minor issue I always meant to ask, it would install fine 10.6 but it wouldn't boot so by trial/error I found out if I try to boot from the USB and then point to the installed partition it works and I've been using it like that. Is it something minor I'm missing??? I got a lot of stuff so I won't be happy if this box gets messed up. If I install some Chameleon version on the installed SL partition will it help?? will it corrupt it??? Thanks

Oopsie ... it is a TrendNet TEW 443PI with the Atheros chipset, since it worked wit the default setting from the 10.6.3 install I thought there was some generic kext to use or roll back Cheers

I installed the 10.6.3 with minor issues and everything was working I have an Atheros Wifi card which also worked so pretty cool .. then I decided to load the Comboupdate 10.6.8 saved the IOUSB kexts and stuff After doing the last steps and some tweaking it seemed to be OK but the Wifi stopped working I tried to install some Atheros kext I found on the net but still no WiFI I get the "No AirPort Card installed" I'm using the pdanet/iPhone for now which works but it'll be great if I get the AirPort to work as it did. Any hints???? Which kext is the one for the Wifi???? Thanks

That sounds like my problem might be I didn't get to any of those messages as the screen goes blank before that it looks like it is loading and then when the Darwin tries to load it goes ... I'll give it a shot when I get some time in a few days(Real busy now with some code I have to finish) I'll report if I have more issues.

Have done that several times already but I can try it once more, from the scratch starting at reformatting the USB and following thru the instructions, ran the diskutil on the USB and disk appears to be OK is the message... One funny thing I just found out I was trying to put the chameleon multiboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) to get my current setup winxp/win7/OSx(SL) to boot cleanly, since I installed the SL on the D420 with a tweak to iFail and the /Extra from here couldn't make sense of the instructions , so I installed the Chameleon.pkg from other board and this caused my SL to have the similar behavior it is starting and then whack black it goes cannot do anything afterwards, maybe there is where my issue is... I fixed my SL using the Lion USB to boot and pointing to my SL partition after playing around in -s mode ... since time is not on my side and I'm about to throw the towel on this Lion install. Jot it down as didn't work 4 me. I never got any of these multiboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) loaders to work I've always used GParted, and go the KISS way: Set the boot flag on the partition I need and it has worked like a charm that way for quite some time on several of the desktop installs I've used. Multiboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) once more didn't work 4 me so I'll stick with the GParted.

Good suggestion just tried it but same result , lots of messages and then it goes black... it is happening when it tries to start the Darwin my guess is that it needs some kernel flags??? It is just weird I read about others with a similar machine going thru it with minor issues and I've been trying for a while now ... I was flipping some kernel flags pcirootuid=0/1 npci=0x200 but it is like I'm shooting darts in the dark although in the past I got thru it by doing just that ... don't think my MB is bad since the SL is actually running pretty good. I have on triple boot XP/Win7 and OSX is that an issue???

Yes overwrote the Extra as per the instructions, ran myFix .... it flashes and goes black so quickly, I cannot capture the msg on a a video it comes too blurry, I made the USB on a SL 10.6.8 Thanks Edit: Tried with Wait=Yes and I see now it is at the point where it says starting Darwin ... so it looks like some sort of a video issue???? tried it again with a generic Extra, i see some more messages Invalid mach magic 0x2 but still after it gets the starting Darwin it goes black ... did manage to get SL10.6.3 from iFail loaded and I know how to get it to go to 10.6.8 but I really need Lion (for xcode 4.2)

I made the USB for 10.7 following the steps and it looks fine -x -f comes up with a bunch of stuff but it seems like when it tries to go to the screen that gives the install GUI, it goes black, it flashes so quickly it is hard to read what the message is. I tried to capture it on video, but so far cannot get the message Has anybody seen this?? I have a D420 core 2 duo 1G RAM , updated the BIOS to the latest, applied the myfix/extra redid it from the scratch and all of the basics but the same...any weird setting on the BIOS perhaps???? trial/eror a few BIOS settings with no success. I tried to install SL before but that one gets stuck on the Airport Thanks in advance
