I already have a d430 and d630 (intel graphics) that i am running courtesey of this web site, when I have set these machine up I had issues with EDP not working on the machines so I went for a base build and installed the

voodoohda sound driver which was the only thing not working , i am now thinking / going to get a d630 nvidia and put mountain lion on it , could anyone say if it is best to go for the edp option on ML or have some people found that they have also done a base build on a d630 and installed the missing voodoohda sound driver.

Can anyone say what the speed is like in a d630 - nvidia with mountain lion ? i managed to get lion on a optiplex 745 which was really slow compared to when it had lion on it ?

Make sure you choose your D530 carefully. It was (is) a somehow versatile laptop in terms of hardware: Celeron M to Core 2 Duo CPUs, chipset Intel 960 or 965, FSB 533 or 800 (depending on chipset/CPU). The video resolution was (is) somehow limited on 15" 4:3 LCDs: 1024x768 or 1400x1050.

It's not the best machine to get today in my opinion. I'd go for a D620 or D630, which really are the step up from the D430: FSB 667 or 800MHz, by large most have C2D CPUs, widescreen LCD (1280x800 or 1440x900), Intel graphics GMA950/Crestline X3100 or nVidia GPU.

 

If you still go for a D530, remember that Lion requires a Core 2 Duo CPU minimum. Wifi will only work out of the box if it's a Broadcom-based Dell card such as DW1390/DW1490; Intel cards are not supported under Mac OS X.

 

You would have no issue at all running Lion on a D620 or D630 fitted with a C2D CPU.

Thanks for the reply , much appreciated, i had not heard of the 530's before but saw a few for sale recently that were c2duo and quite a good price, with saying that i think i may follow your advice and go for the d630 or 620.

I am thinking of getting a dell d530 and putting lion (myhack) onto it , could anyone say what resolutions they have working plus does the wifi work out of the box so to speak , i have recently followed this sites guide for a d430 with lion which works brilliantly and i am now thinking of getting a second machine ?

Please, read up the documentation; it does exactly as it says on the tin! http://www.osxlatitu.../compatibility/

 

Don't use distros, buy a legitimate copy of SL/Lion and follow the EDP procedure to install OS X on a D430.

I am thinking of getting a d430 could anyone say that if they have followed the instruction on an intel gma950 d430 that they have qe ci , ie frontrow works etc ? i have a hdd that has lion on which i can boot but i never get qe ci ? also if any one has a d420 / d620 or d630 that has qe ci working ? if you do can you say if it was on the intel chip set ??
