When you get to chameleon's boot screen, try booting with - v (or drop down and select "boot verbose" from the menu if you prefer. The last message(s) on the screen will help diagnose the problem

Thanks for that - I'll re-install my own kext shortly As for the iMessage problem... there's no need to use the patched version of Chameleon that's out there. In fact, when I first tried it, it caused me enough issues that I decided to restore my OSX installation from a Time Machine backup. Latest version of Chameleon, with v 1.1.2 of fileNVRAM.lib is working just fine for me

I swapped my system board for a cheap nvidia one picked up on eBay... (My problem is I'm more into hardware than software, so this is fairly typical for me!)I've kept the intel board for future research if I get around to it, but for now I'm afraid I'm not able to help very much

Update from my end - I can confirm that nothing's fallen apart since installing Clover (I just wish it wasn't so ugly) and iMessage / FaceTime works like a charm. Also, I was getting a lot of crackle when using Garageband previously. I thought it was a good excuse to play with VoodooHDA, and can confirm that 2.8.2 works perfectly. It can be downloaded at OSX86 (not sure if house rules permit me to link to it here). I've attached the kext with my modified info.plist in it, as I don't want to use HDMI audio etc - might come in useful for someone. VoodooHDA.kext.zip

Re-installing chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) didn't work for me, so I was getting close to accepting a re-build as the way forward. Then I thought, "if I'm going to do that, what's the harm in experimenting first?" So, going back to the iMessage problem, I had a go at the Clover fix. So far so good in terms of iMessage which perhaps counts as progress. Clover seems to default to a verbose boot, so I can't tell you whether that side of the problem as moved forward until tonight when I can play some more. Obviously, it's very early days - I certainly wouldn't suggest making it a part of the guide just yet, but as before I'll keep you updated

Ok, scratch that. It happens regardless of power source unless I boot in verbose mode. Weirdly that seems to prevent it (unless it's a coincidence again, and I happen to just be getting lots of Kernel Panics). I will look through the logs for clues, and try to undo anything I've done recently. First change will be to switch back to chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) as in the original ML 10.8.2 pack you posted, Patel... I changed to a patched version of Chameleon when playing around with the iMessage issue, it wouldn't surprise me if that was linked to my current problems. Not sure why verbose would make a difference to the outcome though? I'll update here, just in case anyone else with a similar issue stumbles across this post in the future

Yep, Kernel Panic at boot time. Managed to reproduce it maybe 5 or 6 times in succession last night while on battery, disappeared when I plugged in and re-appeared when I removed the power lead... Curious to know if anyone else has encountered this on their setup?

Hi all - is anyone else getting these problems? 1. KP when on battery? Fine when I'm plugged into AC, but no joy when I'm unplugged. Seems to relate to apple ps2 keyboard kext. 2. iMessage can't authenticate ("Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again."). I've tried the various tips & tricks I've seen via a few Google searches, but can't get past this.

Possibly an understatement... I'm sending this from my newly-installed e6410 running 10.8.2 thanks to a flawless guide from Patel4Prez (and a replacement nVidia system board)! I'm pleased that I made the swap, as it was a fairly cheap upgrade and the dedicated graphics alongside 8Gb ram and an SSD makes it a pretty solid performer. Next steps are: - complete the post-install instructions - get TRIM working - find a new project to distract myself Thanks again Patel, really good job!

Right, I'm back... After moving house and changing jobs since my last attempt, I'm hoping I can dedicate a little more time to this. For my next attempt I'll be doing something different - namely, I'll be swapping the motherboard for the nVidia version. It, and a new heatsink, are on their way to me. Should arrive in the next fortnight if everything goes to plan. I'm probably not going to try again with the Intel HD graphics, it seems to be a lost cause In the meantime, I'm enjoying my hac'd D430 running 10.7.5

I *thought* that's what I had done, but you've asked the question in such a way that I realise I must have gone wrong when building the myhack USB. I then reset all BIOS settings to default (out of curiosity) which, although still slow, did manage to get me into Disk Utility. To be fair, this may have just been a coincidence.
