  1. Thanks for the replies. I tried with no caches, and on the screen it's hanging with Sound assertion in AppleHDADriver at line I'll have a look at Frosty's stuff. Thanks, Martin
  2. Hi, I've recently bought an E6430 to run OS X on, and have followed Jake Lo's detailed walkthrough from November last year. The installer runs fine, and I partition the drive and it runs, reboots to the USB stick, and I select the drive. The apple logo comes up and it runs for a while then the screen goes light grey, with the mouse pointer - when I move the mouse it turns into the spinning wheel, and it just hangs there, with me still being able to move the pointer around. The model I have is the i7, 120GB SSD, 8GB RAM, with the nvidia graphics alongside the intel graphics, 1600 x 900, BIOS A17. The only question I had on the installer was which Generic EFI folder to use - the one crossed out, or the other one, but I've tried installs with both. I also picked the Ivybridge zip for 1600 x 900 or above screens. Thank you for any advice you can offer. Martin
  3. This is my first post, and I just wanted to say a big thank you to you fantastic guys here, and a big shout out to Herve (sp?) who's Yosemite guide and other advice posted in the past in the forums has been invaluable. I bought an iMac a couple of years ago, and hated it, just couldn't get on with it and returned it with in a week as I decided I would spend most of time running Bootcamp and sticking with Windows and I could get a much more capable PC with better graphics, more memory, drive space, SSD, etc. Less than 6 months later, I was running Mountain Lion pretty consistently on the PC, then Mavericks and then Yosemite. For a good two years now, I've been OS X at home, and suffering with Windows at Work and when doing Excel VBA stuff. And it's been a pretty good ride, apart from a week late last year when I started playing with Yosemite and totally killed my install - back up as well. No I run with a cloned drive internally, and externally, renewed at least once a month, and two Time Machine backups. I've wanted a laptop that could run OS X for a while, and thanks to the advice on these very forums I went hunting for a Dell D630 nvidia, and picked one up last week on eBay for £70 + postage. I was very quickly running Mavericks thanks to the Bios settings posted on these forums, and the tools provided. Then I switched in my old 60GB SSD from my PC, and installed Yosemite - brilliant, apart from the Wifi wouldn't work. Thankfully, this site came to my rescue again and provided me the answer and I picked up an OOB compatible Wifi card for around £5 on eBay which came today, and a hard drive bay for the module bay, so... I'm now happily running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2, with Wifi, bluetooth, trackpad, both hard drives working, graphics, the lot. And I'm loving typing this on my Hackbook! I'm amazed how good this little machine is. Thank you to you all.
