  1. Remove the FB patch from your Config now that you have DVMT set in the BIOS.

so, i changed 0x15b and 0x15c to both read 0x3 and the only way i can boot into OSX is with by 'shell' config that has no graphics stuff, and no DSDT SSDT etc. in it at all...

it has no framebuffer patch, has intel = false, and injects no ig-platform-id

on my normal config i've removed the frame buffer patch as you suggest, but still have intel = true, and ig-platform-id set to HD5500

getting kp when i try to boot this, do i need to change the ig-platform-id ?

  2. yeah fair enough, i've done it now but can't boot back into OS X, so might just re-install it to test out the encryption - got an issue with my config i think probs gfx related

will give el cap a go too

  3.

I assumed that DVMT was set to 96MB (0x3)since Windows show 64MB of Dedicated Video Memory as per FireWolf’s guide. Well, that’s not the case for this system. I found out that it’s set to 0x1 which is 32MB. After setting it to 0x3, system booted successfully with full QE/CI without having to patch the FB binary file to pass the Stolen Memory assertion.

Here’s what you need to change the DVMT value (Done on Windows or WinPE)

    ...

Sat down to look at this last night in an attempt to unlock all the menu options in the BIOS - failed hard.

I have prepared a BIOS to flash with the updated DVMT var, but i'm not sure how happy i am with just changing a variable like this.. seems a bit erm, "scrappy".

  4. yeah i saw that tool, issue is i have no windows installed at all to run the tools to read the key (not even previous win verison)... going to crack on with editing the DVMT / BIOS tomorrow, so i had to order up an OEM disk (which took 7 working days to rock up) that would read the key from the mainboard upon install.

  5. sounds good re: sound... will this support headphones and external speakers?

i read re: HD5500 gfx to try experimenting with the id, as apparently it doesn't really need to match what is in the system... i think someone got the HDMI working by pretending to be an HD6000...

I've got loads to do on my machine... it was all pending on the WiFi arriving, and also getting an OEM Win8.1 disk from DELL so i can a ) Get Win10 free upgrade, and b ) use UEFI install as idon't have a CD Key to install windows for messing around with the BIOS DVMT overrride

So it's "ok" to use VF2 w/ Clover? It's not going to brick it or anything?

    Ty.

  6. i have *finally* received my DW1560 card from the US that an old school friend kindly ordered and shipped over for me...

right... that's my Saturday evening sorted, did you get it working ok Jake?

oh, also.. slight side query, what's the best way to encrypt a hackintosh HDD? can i use filevault2?

  7. I still am having issues with the gfx locking up, i have absolutely no idea what i can try in order to resolve it though...

In other news, what do i need to do in order to generate a new serial for the MacBookAir7,2 SMBIOS profile?

This thread talks about the MacBookPro11,2 - can I use the same values?

Would prefer to generate something brand new in clover and not get my AppleId blocked ;)

  8. So I've done two things: updated the BIOS, and applied the change that you mention to the BT switch (which worked)...

Now I don't seem to be able to enter sleep... the screen goes black, but I never actually enter sleep... which is a bit annoying  ;)

  9. re: Bluetooth mine worked completely OOTB, i have been tethering to my iPhone for internet access for a while now (started with USB, then moved to BT when the USB stopped working from sleep)

the BCM94352Z M.2 card has arrived now, I'm going to stick it in the machine this evening, fingers crossed for WiFi(!)... will i need to re-install OS X?

  10. To fix the CMD+Insert shutdown issue, go to the terminal and run the following

    sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0

    sudo pmset -a hibernatefile /Dev/Null

i assume this is basically just disabling hibernation..

To get system to sleep with LID close (I forgot to mention) you have to close the LID twice. First time you notice the LCD won't turn off, second time it's off and sleep initiates. I'm looking for a fix now.

ah yes, i did notice this... but it didn't really sink in ;)

GFX lock up happened to me too but mouse will still moves, but have not recently. Some suggest restarting from Windows will eliminate this issue, but  I don't have Windows running on it. See if this works for you too.

i think this is probably the most serious issue right now, as it worries about actually using the device.... if i'm attempting to work or something i don't really fancy a machine that could lock up at any moment.. i don't have windows installed on this machine (yet) either, but will do eventually.. could this really be a viable fix?

I noticed you still have the FB patch in the config, is that needed still? Have you tested without it?

yeah, just left it in there and didn't really think anything of it... i assume this is in the DSDT now?

i wonder if the frame buffer thing is related to the gfx lock up? :|

I'll test the DP and see if I get the same result, but prefer to have HDMI working...

    cool, good luck!
  11. Hi, OK config is attached.. (note: i'm also using your most recent DSDT and SSDT from this thread..)

There are lots of things in the config that i need to spend time understanding... a it *seems* (to me anyway) there is a bunch of stuff that could/should be changed perhaps? - i'll go into details in another post tho

I was typing this post from the mac, but when i had mail/calendar/chrome/spotify/etc. all open, the gfx locked up and i had to hard reboot it... so now typing it out again from windows ;)

My previous post i wasn't using your SSDT btw, but now i am i've noticed two things:

    1. 'Power Nap' or something seems to be enabled under power settings
    2. cmd+insert now shuts the machine down instead of putting it to sleep

everything else *seems* to be fine though..

re: USB 'randomly' stopping, it's not random.. i just didn't notice previously as i was only using the track-pad but when coming out of sleep all the USB sockets cease to function

re: HDMI, can't test that... but i have checked a Mini DisplayPort to VGA this morning, and it also caused the machine to hang and then i had to hard reboot... following the reboot (i left it attached), the second monitor worked, although with a v. low resolution

  12. Hi,

Ok.... posting this from the laptop right now, tethered to my iPhone, no problems... still awaiting the wireless card, should be here next week.

    Anyway:

    * usb 3 - works, i think.... but i have noticed that it will random disable itself, have you seen this at all?

    * webcam - works

    * sound - works [listening to spotify right now]

    * mouse - after installing appleps2controller.kext and appleacpips2nub.kext, works fine although the voodoops2controller also works - some googling seems to suggest there has been work to merge ALPS controllers with it - the scroll speed is v. fast!!! had to slow it down in the control panel.

    * battery status - fine, although how do i check the '14 states' you mentioned? - OS seems to suggest that i've got 3.5hs battery... the thing is fully charged though

    CUYwOPE.png

    * brightness now works too, with auto dimming when on battery ;)

    * sleep - works brilliantly (cmd+insert) - although not when i shut the lid? maybe i've missed a setting

    * card reader - not yet tried, assume it works though ;)

    * HDMI - not tried either, don't really have anything to try it with tbh.... will take it to work and give it a go, might try the mini display adpater though, what are the odds of that working do we think?!

couple of weird things from my side:

    1. I keep getting a pop-up about searching for a bluetooth keyboard, bluetooth works, i am tethered via it, but the pop-up would indicate that the keyboard is getting disconnected??

    2. i've noticed that my hdd doesn't have trim support enabled,  how do i do that.... ?

Edit: I added the KextsToPatch Trim section back into the config.plist... not sure if trim is actually happening (how can i check?), but it says it's enabled ;)

  13. Sorry, I saw this post the other day but have been away for the weekend, looks like you made some more progress also on it which is pretty great.

In the attached file, i see AppleHDADisabler.kext which i guess is to allow VoodooHDA to load? Do these both get installed via Kext Wizard? Ty.

Re: VoodooPS2Controller, yeah it seems to totally work.. I can't side scroll (and i don't have a track-stick) but normal touch, and two finger scrolling does function as expected which is awesome :)

Keep up the good work, I'll try to give this stuff a whirl tonight ;)

    Many Thanks.

P.s. Assuming things go well, I am considering starting to use this install 'properly' - in it's current state does power management on the machine work correctly... for example, i know we can see the battery but does it recognise that the power is unplugged for example not run at top performance all the time?

  14. Been doing some learning on a few of these points:-

    1. Trackpad - is there something from the 7440 thread that can be re-used?
    2. USB 3.0 - external mouse seems to work, can't get iPhone to tether though
    3. Battery indicator - Assume this is covered basically under 'power management' working right?
    4. Sound - RealTek ALC3235, not high priority, would be nice though

    1. Resolved with v1.8.9 of VoodooPS2Controller.kext, mainly through chance i think, no idea if this is the 'latest', but seems to work.

    2. USB 3.0 seems to be working, i've got a USB 3.0 device reporting as having a speed of 'up to 5Gb/sec' - not sure if that means it's working or not, i've loaded GenericUSBXHCI.kext with no ill effects..

    3. Battery Indicator resolved with ACPIBatteryManager.kext from RehabMan, v1.53 (again, no idea if this is latest but seems to show the battery just fine!)

    4. Absolutely no idea on how to fix the sound... i think i'm going to need some pointers here

Jake, I've tried to boot using your DSDT and SSDT from earlier in this thread and i can't see that they offer anything obvious over what I have... can you please confirm what you have patched in them at all? For now, I've removed them... I'm sure there's something I'm missing though.

Edit: Oh, I've just tethered my iPhone before the wireless card arrives... i don't know if it's related, but i keep getting system hangs, where the mouse is still able to move... how do i work out what is causing this? trial and error?

    Thanks!

  15. Righto,

Couple of bit's I'm going to be looking at this week... that I'm not sure if i should be looking for kexts (for example), or thinking about dumping and patching a DSDT?

    1. Trackpad - is there something from the 7440 thread that can be re-used?

    2. USB 3.0 - external mouse seems to work, can't get iPhone to tether though

    3. Battery indicator - Assume this is covered basically under 'power management' working right?

    3. Sound - RealTek ALC3235, not high priority, would be nice though

Which of these points could/should i be fixing with a kext, or clover setting, and which should i be sorting with a DSDT dump/patch please?

I plan to get all the non-DSDT stuff fixed first, and then move on to messing about with that later...

    Ty ;)

  16. and we have lift-off!

i installed with config.plist without the intel ig-platform-id inject, and then once into OS X installed clover, and replaced with an identical config.plist but with the exception of having the ig-platform-id inject, and we have graphics acceleration!

one thing is for certain though, i cannot inject the ig-platform-id when installing OS X.. it must be done afterwards...

now i just have to find one of those pesky m.2 wifi cards!

oh, btw... how do i get this thing to boot without mashing F12 each time?

    thanks

  17. hmmmmm... it's all starting to become clear what has gone on now ;)

i used Diskmaker X, and then just installed Clover on the EFI partition. I will re-create the USB Installer and try to get to the bottom of this, currently doing some actually work-work, this is far more interesting though!

    Ty.

Edit: I just used createinstallmedia and i still can't see the /S/L/E struct.. wtf :o

  18. man alive... i can remove the KextToPatch portion too from my config.plist and we're all good too getting into the installer...

it's still v. v. slow, so now i'm thinking even more that just adding the ig-platform-id into the installed version config.plist might work

maybe i can try that tomorrow.
