Ok I reloaded the original VoodooBattery.kext from my 10.8.2 install and rebooted and it is working fine now. Before I did this I had found and used Applesmartbatterymanager.kext and it worked but did not seem like it was giving accurate readings at all. It was reading as if my battery was draining and charging at a faster than usual rate. So i'm not sure if it's just me or if it was inaccurate with its readings. Well I have finally gotten around to updating my ML to 10.8.3 due to the new Final Cut needing it to run. I was really afraid of rocking the boat since everything worked fine on my 10.8.2 install. After updating the only noticable problem I have encountered is I have lost all battery indicators. This includes the battery icon in the bar as well as the battery light on the actual laptop itself. Has anyone else come across this problem by chance? I'm trying a couple of battery kexts out that I have found and will report back if they remedy the problem.

Yessir, Chameleon 2.1 is what fixed my VGA problems. Sleep worked for me OOTB.

This is the same problem I was having early on with the install failing at the end and not prompting for the extras. I had posted what worked for me in post #181 of this thread located on page 10. I simply removed steps 22-38 for creating the installer and it installed fine and prompted for the extras as well. I then just used kext wizard to do those steps after booting into the new installation (only needing to use the 10.8.2 files).

Sorry for the confusion. I had used chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) 1.11.1 from the guide initially. Then I just installed Chameleon 2.1. I got them confused for the same thing lol. I had been doing a lot of googling and did not realize that these pertained to video in any way. I saw the chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) version was at 1.11.1 and somehow got it confused with Chameleon and saw that the version of Chameleon was at 2.1. So I installed and it fixed it. Total blind luck of a fix for me considering it was because of a mix up.

UPDATE: I have finally been successful in getting my external monitor via the VGA port working!!! All I needed to do was update my Chameleon to version 2.1 and that did the trick. Everything is fully functional minus the SD card reader.

@ Patel , Do you possibly have any more ideas or know of other threads that might be able to help me with the external monitor problem? It is able to switch to external when I am booting when I select fn+f8 and runs up until the apple logo with spinning wheel but cuts off into power save mode whenever it gets ready to go to login screen. So it has to be something with the installation, maybe a kext or something?

I checked my BIOS, couldn't find anything along those lines. I'm pretty much stuck at a standstill at the moment. Hopefully something comes up. =)

Ok, I've made a little headway in identifying the problem. So I used the fn+f8 display option I hadn't really tried yet, and I feel really stupid for not thinking of it sooner. I think at one point in time I had this problem with a Windows installation. So here are the results for using it so far. When I use fn+f8 while booted into Lion the box freezes and the mouse arrow disappears resulting in needing to be rebooted to regain functionality. So I tried the fn+f8 at boot up and it actually goes to the external display. I see the drive in Chameleon and boot into It. It then goes into the Apple logo with the spinning wheel and everything is fine. After that the monitor shuts off and goes into power saving mode as it moves to the Lion login screen (before it actually gets to it though). Both screens remain black at this point and I need to reboot. So I'm thinking that my problem may lie in not having the use of my FN key while in Lion. If I did I could possibly switch between displays. I'm not sure what is making the external lose its connection at the login screen though, but hey it's a step in the right direction. So the good fight continues lol... EDIT: It seems that the fn button is working for other options. It is only freezing when I use the fn+f8 display combo. (the mouse disappears and cannot do anything through keyboard)

Thanks, I just downloaded and installed. I have a dumb question though. What exactly do I do? If I select detect displays my laptop screen goes black and I cant get back to it without rebooting and If I don't use detect displays then the external monitor isn't picked up by the laptop at all.

Thanks much... unfortunately no dice =( . I'm really not sure what im doing wrong. I know the VGA port works. I was using the external monitor on my previous installation of Win XP on the E6410. I have tried different variations. I have tried to boot with it attached (which goes directly into a black screen) When I use the detect displays button both screens go black. The external is catching a signal though. When I disconnect it tells me no signal present and when I reconnect it takes a second and goes into power save mode. I have checked the front panel setup on the display for any possible features on the monitor and found nothing. I also checked my BIOS and found nothing indicative to being related to VGA output, external displays or anything of the sort. What steps do you do exactly to get yours working. I wish I had a second monitor to test out, is it possible that this monitor doesn't work with make or maybe the resolution or something like that is screwing it up?

patel could you please link me your DSDT and possibly give me a brief howto or a link to one? I'm still at a standstill on the VGA port ( which I dont get because Ive read multiple posts that it should be working OOTB ) thanks =)

Ok new update lol. I have located why Pdanet broke my hackbook. The Pdanet installation kept failing yet it would install the items needed. This failed installation is what was keeping my mac from rebooting. So I thought Id try to manually install the pdanetdrv.kext since the error message from the install log was kext related. I then used the kext wizard to repair the permissions and what not. Then reboot...walla. It worked like a charm. I was not able to use the usb tether but was able to get internet to my hackbook via pdanet bluetooth dun. Which I am more than satisfied with. I am learning more the more I break stuff lol. So the VGA issue Im not quite sure about. If yours works then mine should since we are running identical boxes. My monitor specs, if it helps any, are as follows: Dell E248WFP w/ dvi and vga inputs I have tried to use the detect monitor button and boot into it as well. I make sure that I have selected the vga setting on the monitor itself when doing so. It seems like the mac does detect something as it goes to a black screen. The monitor itself lights green for a second before moving into power saver mode. It is not saying no signal detected like it normally does when there is no signal present. I thought that was strange as well about the removing those steps. I could have swore I had done them the first time, because it took me forever and a day to get the kext wizard working through vmware. I stumbled onto it by accident as it was late and realized halfway through the install that I did not do the kext updates on my usb installer. I was surprised that it went through. I seriously screwed around with it for about 8 hours solid lol. Thanks again for all of your help. It is greatly appreciated. This has been by far the most helpful and informative forum/thread that I have come across regarding hackbooks so kudos to you guys =) Im open to any and all suggestions regarding the vga dilemma (not sure how to patch the DSDT) and if something comes up I will be sure to post it, thanks again!

Ok Im back up and running. The problem turned out being that I needed to remove steps 22-38 on the creating installer list on page one of this thread. This just happened by a stroke of luck. I have tried the detect displays suggestion and it did not work. I have tried to install nvinject as well and no luck. The mac screen goes to black after selecting detect displays and the external monitor just goes into power save mode, leaving me with 2 black screens. I have a DSDT file that some people have said makes the vga port work and they are using the exact same nvidia card and laptop model as I am ( http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/219229-guide-dell-latitude-e6410/page__st__100 ). Im just not sure how to patch the DSDT. I did find out that it was the install of Pdanet that was what caused my system to not be able to boot. I recreated it and then removed pdanet through safe mode. I wish I would have known this before doing a whole new install lol, but Im learning and thats the point I guess lol. So im back to trying to get this vga port up and running, I would love to be able to use my hackbook on a larger screen.

Well my Hackintosh experience has definately not been uneventful lol. Im at my wits end with this new problem. I was booted into my ML 10.8.2 installation. Everything has been running perfect aside from the couple items like vga and sd card which really is not a big deal. I was installing pdanet last night and everything seemed fine. I changed nothing crazy. I deleted some bluetooth modems in the network settings and that was it. When I rebooted it would make it to the apple logo and the spinning gear then a prohibit sign (a crossed out circle) appeared directly above my apple logo. It hung there and never made it past that. I was able to still boot into my system using the -x (safemode flag). I could not locate what was causing the hang up. So after trying and searching for a good while I just decided to do a fresh install. I followed the exact steps that I had done the first time to get the installation working. This time however, The install keeps failing and the log shows : Install Failed: Error Domain=PKInstallErrorDomain Code=121 "an error ocurred while updatingsystem extension information." UserInfo=0x7f9285ef0a40 I have tried everything. I have formatted the drive. I even formatted and reinstalled WIN XP and retraced my steps from the very first thing I did on my first install and I keep getting this error. Another interesting thing that I noticed is that this error is the same error that started popping up in ML before my installation stopped working. I tried to install a few diff programs and kept getting that 121 error. Please if anyone can help me get it back up and running it would be greatly appreciated. Im really at my wits end.

Thanks much, sorry for double posting the question. I just thought it might get glanced over in my first post. I appreciate it =). Im trying to get it run on a larger external monitor and the monitor gets no signal and the E6410 must get something because when I boot with it attached it boots up with a black screen. Nothing happens however when I am already booted up and I connect the monitor. If you need spec s on the monitor I can post them. Its just a normal run of the mill dell lcd though, nothing special.

No not yet, I was thinking I had a Broadcom chipset, but don't =(. I guess Im going to wait until something comes along as its not a priority for me. Im assuming the ethernet works but have not yet tried it out. I do have a new question though. Has anyone been able to get the VGA port to work? I have found a DSDT file that claims to have a fix for it but I have read reports of it freezing peoples boxes and giving black screens, so Im a little reluctant on using it.

It was smooth sailing. I now have everything in working order except for the wifi adapter. Which if I cant figure that out, Im sure I can live with it lol. Thanks again for your help. Any suggestions on getting the broadcom wifi to work?

Okay I have figured the problem out finally. Thanks to all who have responded to my original post. I decided to redo everything from the ground up. I started by reinstalling my Mac OS X guest installation and worked from there forward. One thing that I noticed after doing so, is that any copy of Kext Wizard that I downloaded in Win 7 and imported over to my VMware guest reproduced the same error as before ( the choose, item 2, item 3 listed for target drives). So I decided to download a copy of Kext Wizard through my Mac OS X VMware guest (now that upon reinstall I actually got the network connection to work, whereas before it wouldn't). So after downloading and trying to run the program I got an error stating that I couldn't run the program until I changed my settings to be able to execute programs that were from unknown publishers. I'm pretty sure this is where the problem was. Because after changing this setting and running Kext Wizard it listed my USB flash drive as an option for the target drive. I then followed the instructions from the first page to the letter and am currently about 75% of the way through the main install on my E6410 laptop =) ... I will follow up with the results as soon as it finishes up. Thanks again guys and a big thank you to Patel4prez for an amazing tutorial and following up on questions. Fingers crossed , so far it seems to be going off without a hitch.
