HP 530 Celeron M - 10.6.8

NOTNlCE

Recommended Posts

Specs:

  • Intel Celeron M 410 @ 1.46GHz
  • Intel Moble 943GML Express Chipset
  • Intel GMA 950 Graphics
  • 1.5GB DDR2-667MHz RAM
  • Intel Pro 10/100 LAN
  • CD/DVD Combo Drive
  • 1280x800 Widescreen 15.4"
  • "Sound Blaster Pro" Audio
  • 56K Modem

Working:

  • Intel Celeron M 410 in 32bit Mode Snow Leopard
  • - Install with myHack off ISO image of Retail 10.6.0 DVD, Combo Update to 10.6.8
  • - Native Power Management, Recognized as Intel Core Solo 1.47GHz
  • Wireless through BCM4321 Wireless Card, seen as AirPort
  • TouchPad with 2 Finger Scroll through SynapticTrackpad PS2 kext
  • Keyboard with FN Backlight Control through PS2 Keyboard kext
  • Audio and FN Audio Control through a Voodoo HDA with 1/8 headphone jack support
  • DVD Reading/Burning - though slow

Not Working:

  • Intel Pro 10/100 Ethernet LAN - No kext for Snow Leopard, 10.5 Kext Doesn't Work
  • 56K Modem - Who cares?
  • USB Ports - I believe the chipset is unsupported, but DSDT edits could probably solve this problem.
  • VGA Out - Causes System to freeze if a VGA cord is plugged in
  • Sleep - Again, I think it's the chipset that won't allow sleep.

Annoyances:

  • WiFi Toggle Button causes AirPort to be permanently disabled until the toggle button is pressed again during BIOS setup.
  • Whenever the RAM configuration is changed, or a random kernel panic occurs, the system must be started in Safe Mode before it can be booted normally again.
  • PS2 Trackpad Kext does not function in Safe Mode.
  • 1024x768 Boot Screen - Changing Chameleon args doesn't seem to work, though full resolution works under OS X.

Hope this helps someone, just wanted to share a success story. Most of the "non working" things are unimportant to me in the computers current use. It's simply a web browsing computer for my mother so she doesn't have to sit at her iMac to answer email. Don't particularly care about Ethernet since the WiFi works so well, and USB isn't a huge deal either. Most of the annoyances aren't that bad either, I just have to be careful not to bump the WiFi button and just disabled sleep in the Energy Saving settings. Many of these things could probably be fixed, but the computer works well enough for me not to want to break anything, plus the specs aren't great enough for me to put much more effort into it. Happy hacking!

Try using the DSDT.aml that Hervé has used in the Vostro 200 bootpack (try the whole bootpack actually). It works well on my Inspiron 530 (see signature), including sleep. For ethernet try: Intel82556MM.kext found here: http://www.osx86.net/files/file/1631-intel82566mm-kext/

I shall give it a shot. I used that bootpack on my own Inspiron 530S and it's worked perfectly. I'll report back in a bit. Thanks!

-------------

No luck with either, the Vostro DSDT has a completely different ACPI platform, and the Intel kext just didn't do anything, thanks though. Again, I don't particularly care about adding more functionality to this computer. It boots up and shuts down with usability. I'm happy with that.

Erm, I would have not expected the Vostro200/Inspiron530s DSDT to work on that machine; there's nothing in common at all. If any Dell DSDT were to be used (and I would never recommend that), it would be the D430's which bears some similarities with this HP's hardware (GM945 chipset, GM1950 graphics, ICH7-M controller, etc.)

Try and list your lspci -nn specs to see if we can do anything. For Ethernet, the E1000 or E1000e kext might work...

Ok, should be doable.

Yeah, my bad - 12 hour day at work and an hour commute and my tired eyes read DELL 530 instead of HP 530.
