  1. Thanks for your feedback. I can use that to compare. I’m at a loss with this thing. I’ll try testing again tomorrow.
  2. Thanks for the reply. I just wanted to cover the bases before spending the time to install OSX if it was just going to do the same thing. I have the i7 2.5 and from what I’ve read Dell throttled this one due to temps overwhelming the cooler. *shrug* I needed it so my girl could use Final Cut. Thanks again.
  3. I should also note that it's not overheating. The throttling is immediate when a full load is applied. Like rendering video, comp/decomp files etc. I've tried using ThrottleStop, checked all my drivers etc, SpeedStep on/off. it always happens and the fans don't even spin up really. I've tried basically everything I've read online to solve the issue and I've just hit a wall. I tried updating to the newest BIOS, nada. Unless there's an older BIOS that doesn't include the speculated limitation... I don't know. I thought I should clarify that I've tried a lot of stuff already.
  4. Hey, all. I was considering putting OSX on my E6540 but I'm seeing hard CPU throttling to around ~30% under load in Windows. I can't tolerate a 799mhz system under load, regardless of what OS it has. I've tried to find info on it but what I've read is that it's a Dell hardware thing and environment independent. I'm using a factory 130w Dell power supply and bought a second new one in case one was going bad. It's the same with the brand new one as well. I'm turning to y'all cause this is the only place I can think of that would have the answer. Everything else seems to be about the chargers being non-authentic but I have two legit ones, or some stuff about Dell adding some BIOS stuff to artificially limit the speed if it detects a non-genuine charger. Again, I have genuine chargers. Does anyone have any experience, tips, black magic, modded BIOS's? If I can't solve it I'm just going to sell it. :( Thank you.
  5. Thanks. I'll give it a shot. I did get it installed but booting is unreliable. Black screens etc. When it works it works really well, though. I'm going to rebuild the installer using your guidelines and try a different install. I had to do the 4k fix on my cloned drive, but I think I read that it's included with Clover. Wish me luck and thanks for the help. I really love my 830 and didn't really want to go with a probook.
  6. I got it installed! I used a combination of Herve's method (and tips from a few more guides) with Clover and then a Chameleon on top to actually make it boot. I didn't get to check everything yet because I already broke it trying to install multifail so I could get it to boot from the HDD. Now it just hangs at the progress bar forever. It's all good though. I'm making progress. Reinstalling again.
  7. I've followed Herves guide here for the 630: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/6731-d630-nvidia-yosemite/ Also these: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/298027-guide-aio-guides-for-hackintosh/?do=findComment&comment=2019584 http://www.hackintoshosx.com/topic/21313-guide-yosemite-1010-usb-bootable-installerupdated/ I've used Herves 630 plist. and default plists. I've tried kexts for the 630 10.10, 830 10.9 and 10.10. and different DSDT's or none. copied the kernels etc. I'm not sure what's going on. Any clover install I try doesn't even boot from the USB. it just has a blinking cursor and the flash drive light just blinks. Which is weird because its default is a slow pulse when inactive. Chameleon sometimes gets to the install screen but then it stops. I've never gotten 10.10 to install yet. I've got 10.8 working fine on the 830 and 10.7.2 on a DC7900 which I'm using to make the installers. I've also run the gamut of boot flags with any installer that would somewhat work. I was also getting halts at random times while watching it in verbose. If I would reboot it might stop somewhere else. Strange. What could be wrong with clover that it wont even boot? I've followed the guides to the letter several times. Thoughts?
  8. Thanks, Herve. I kinda gotta try Yosemite. I'm a PC tech but I don't use, or repair, Apple products (except my iphone 5). I moved to Atlanta recently and just about all jobs here require current Mac experience. Since I can't afford a mac, or a new PC I gotta make do with my 830 if it was even stable enough to use. I was using this tut: http://www.tonycrapx86.com/445-unifail-install-os-x-yosemite-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html#install_yosemiteI'm having limited success. It randomly locks up at all different times with no rhyme or reason. Now it's getting to the actual install before it just stops. I'll give that link you sent a shot and see what I come up with. Thanks again. Hopefully it'll work since it would be nice to use the features with my phone
  9. I'm not an expert at this. I have ML running fine as of now (thanks to all of you). It's a little laggy but I can tolerate it. But, I haven't seen a lot of solid info on running Yos on the 830. A lot of hit or miss and issues. Is it even worth the effort or should I just deal with ML? Or maybe I just missed the golden thread that explains it all. Again... not an expert. T7700 Quadro 140
  10. No luck with that either. I've reinstalled to a new drive and it's the same thing. I guess the network icon is just broken.
  11. Thanks for the reply. I didn't find any fixes in the link that you provided. I messed around with EDP some more and set up a second router to test with and I can now join other networks but the wifi status icon still doesn't work and only gives my the option to turn on the wireless. So that's still broken. It's not a big deal I guess but it would be nice if that worked.
  12. Hi. I have ML on my D830 Nvidia and it works pretty well. The thing is, My wireless icon is always blank, but it will connect to my wireless network, and it lists my wifi adapter as off. It'll search for networks but never find any and trying to turn the adapter on does nothing. It's a Dell 1390. Good thing I live in the sticks and don't need security on my router. *For some reason I thought it used to work and I did find my old network listed, I haven't used OSX in awhile* I've searched around but I haven't found a solution yet. My BIOS is set up like all of the guides say. Catcher is off, switch is off etc. I've tried looking for a new kext but I haven't found any of those either (I guess since it's supposed to have native support). I've tried a few things in EDP but all I've managed to do was somehow break the AppleACPI. I'm not exactly a noob, but I'm also not very familiar with Hackintosh. I'm really afraid that if I keep messing around it's just going to stop booting. I tried an install of Mav thinking that might fix it but that was a disaster and never even installed. Any thoughts, anyone? Thanks ahead of time.
  13. Ya know... you're right. I could have sworn that the touchpad with the biometrics was a Synaptics and the ALPS was w/o bio. But, I took it apart and checked and it sure is an ALPS. I don't know what made me believe that. That clears a few things up for me. Thanks. I'll be sure to check out the articles and see what tweaks I can make. I appreciate the info. I just got this system off ebay a couple of weeks ago for $139 which I think is a steal! I've never had a Dell before. I always buy MSI, ASUS or Clevo laptops. I didn't know anything about MacOS either. Needless to say I'm super happy with it. Even just with Win 7 on it. I ordered a media bay HDD carrier so I'll have a choice to boot Win or ML on separate drives so that should be pretty nice. Sadly, I have a rather expensive MSI machine that doesn't get much use now that I have this
  14. This is how I got ML installed on my D830. My D830 specs are: 2.4 ghz, 4gb Ram, NVS 140, 1920x1200, dual wireless dell 1390 and Broadcom Xtreme N, bluetooth, etc. This is what I turned off in the A15 BIOS: Modem, Parallel, Serial, ASF, Ambient Light Sensor, all the password stuff and TPM, All power management. I was using iFail before and I could never get anything to install. Just hung at PCI config every time. I finally abandoned that and went with MyHack instead since I couldn't figure out how to install the new kexts in iFail. I used the MyHack method for setting up the USB flash drive and got the bootpack from here. I pretty much used every option that MyHack allowed me to use. New extras (downloaded from here), MyFix (all). When I installed it this time at least did something but I kept getting stumped at the PCI config, so I got the IOPCIFamily.ketx from netkas.org. plugged my flash drive back into my HP DC7900 USFF with Lion (iFail worked great on that) and used MyHack again and manually dropped in the IOPCIFamily.kext. I got a little farther that time before it black screened on me. After reading through the MyHack troubleshooting again one recommendation was to boot with PCIRoot=1. That did the trick at first only to be greeted with another black screen. I restarted the system again and this time it loaded up and it installed pretty well for about 2/3s of the install until I got another black screen. I could still see my flash drive activity LED blinking and HDD activity was pretty solid but still a black screen. Funny, I guess, but the reason for the last black screen was that the monitor had apparently shut off and I just had to click the mouse button and was welcomed with some MyHack options. I could tell instantly that At the end of the install I had the unfortunate message of "install failed". I just rebooted and it loaded right into the ML initial setup. Everything worked. wifi, bluetooth, video... pretty much everything I could check at a glance. The only problem is that it wouldn't shut down, but there was still a lot of HDD activity so i just let it sit there while it mocked me and all my efforts. But, thankfully, after what seemed like an eternity it rebooted and it loaded back into ML. Of course there was no keyboard or trackpad support since they are PS2. I then ran the EDP, chose my model, and waited some more. After the install I had a much faster shutdown and reboot and everything worked. Sleep works fine as well. I haven't had any issues with it. I can sleep it and wake it up with no problem and everything works. Magic? Maybe. There was a weird issue with the trackpad that made it seem to lag for no reason then speed up. After a minute I realized that it was acting like it was pressure sensitive. The harder I pushed the worse it reacted. A super light touch and all was fine. I just went into the trackpad properties in System Preferences and turned off two finger scrolling and now everything works like it should. I have the Synaptics touchpad with the biometric scanner. I haven't managed to find any kexts that allow my to use scrolling with the Synaptics pad unfortunately. What doesn't work: Biometrics don't show up/work No Scrolling with Synaptics touchpad but the action of the pad is great. I think that I've covered my procedure as best I can. I've never used a Mac until 3 days ago when I put Lion on a HP DC7900 USFF so I'm not an expert. Thanks to everyone in the community because without your knowledge I would have never gotten this installed. Hope this helps someone. Questions or comments are welcome. Thanks again. P.S. if anyone has a solution to the Synaptics touchpad scrolling problem I'd love to get it working. I can't seem to find one.
  15. macdelld830 The reason is, from what I've read, is that the NVS 140m is essentially just a slightly stripped model of the 8400m GS. I can't remember where the heck I read that though. BTW, I'm also always getting stuck on the PCI config. I'm pretty new to this so the whole experience seems to be the virtual equivalent to trying to swim through mud. I did manage to get Lion installed on a HP DC7900 USFF, but there isn't video support for the crappy Q43/45 chipset in it bummer but other than that it seems to be 100% so that's the only reason I've gotten this far. Oh, and Time Machine doesnt work. But, seeing how I've never used a mac before I started this adventure that might just be user error. My biggest issue is I really wanted this to run on my D830. (2.4, Quadro 140, 4gb ram, 1920x1200 res and a 500gb hybrid) I've tried everything, just as a lot of you have. I'm just not all that familiar with some of the terminology and procedures. I've tried multiple Lion configs and ML configs but it's always PCI that stabs me in the back. Meh. I'll try some of the steps that you all have posted here in this thread and see if I can bumble my way through it I hope the vid card info helps you some.
