comparing the 2 d630's i find the nvidia to have a brighter screen. Also only the intel has a brightness slider. Which one should i keep for me ,the other is for my son.and the d620 my daughter now has. My son took the nvidia d630....

I also discovered that choosing the d630 intel in edp didn't work on my d630.... Had to choose nvidia d630 and it worked ...dunno why? Also can I use the compatible wireless card from a d620 in my d630?

turns out the hd i was using had some bad sectors. As a last resort i took the hd out of my nvidia gpu d630 and popped it into my intelbased d630 and it booted up no problem. Sorry for my panic earlier.I didn't respond sooner because a migraine headache has sidelined me for the last 12 hours. So all I need now is a wifi card and i am done.Thanks for your help everyone. Wow !! I cannot believe the difference between installing sl on an nvidia d630 and an intel one. I ended up using the nvidia d630 to install on a spare drive,pop in edp 1.91 for intel , then put it in the intel d630 and booted to more kp's. Had to delete ioatafamily kext and appleintelcpumanagement kext. Now I stop at : acpi_smc_platformplugin: :start - waitforservice(resourcematching(appleintelcpupowermanagement) timed out acpi_smc_platformplugin: :registerlpcdriver - warning - lpc device initialization failed: c-state power management not initialized any ideas or do I have some weird laptop configuration bios is a17

My bios is a17,using snow leopard 10.6.0 install dvd, and using external monitor.KP is ioatafamily and i already removed the intel wireless card.tried another hd with sl already on it with a boot disc and still get same kp.

my nvidia graphics d630 had a very smooth install with the exception of no wifi.... still waiting for broadcom one shipping from hongcong.Now I picked up an intel graphics 630 and it's a real pain to install.Removed the wifi card but still having huge issues.I am using the d620/630 boot disc and a real dvd of sl.So far I can't even install sl at all.

I just disconnect and reconnect the ethernet cable and it works for me.

I am a hardware dude. So this is up my alley... been running mac on a desktop for 4 years and 2 years on different laptops. But laptops are much more difficult because you can't just change parts to mac compatible ones. So far this site has been the best for support and the smoothest mac installs i've ever had. This site just rocks!!

Happens to me too. On both d620 and 630.

Up and running on the d630. Typing this on it now. Only need the broadcom wifi card and everything will be great !Bought 1 off ebay should be here next week. Thanks to this forum for all your help !

I ended up getting the nvidia quattro 135m,2.0 ghz core 2duo for a great price. Just need to know what wifi card to get?

I am really in a quandry and do not know which to get. Google is not helpful either...

Are there any good nvidia chips in the d20/630 laptops? I can get a good deal on a d630 with a core2duo and the nvidia quattro 110m. But I am leery because of all the issues with nvidia chips. Were there any good ones and how would I be able to tell. Also what is more compatible with osx Lion, intel video or nvidia?

Cpu fan just stopped working.....time for a new one.

Disassembled my d620 using this guide http://ahwee.com/how-to-disassemble-laptop-dell-latitude-d620 and discovered my fan vent was clogged. So I removed the dust, put arctic silver paste on the cpu and reassembled it. Should work awesome now !!

Thanks I will try that tomorrow. I was wondering if the d630 was more compatible than this d620.I found one with 2.53 ghz CPU,2 gig ram,nvidia quattro 110,120 gig hard rive, and the store also has a broad com wifi card for it.What do you think?

My d620 with a core2 duo 1.83 ghz,a10 custom bios from osx latitude, intel 950 graphics, 2 gig ram, and a seagate hybrid xt harddrive runs at 44 degrees at idle.For normal operation it is fine but last night while encoding a video and burning to disc using imovie and idvd, cpu temps were recorded using istat as high as 76 degrees celcius. This also causes the computer to slow down dramatically. The fan is operating and I can feel the air flow from the exhaust. I was wondering whether the temps are relatively normal, and if there is an issue. I have set the speedstep program from edp to on demand performance. Was wondering if this is a software or hardware issue?Thanks in advance.

with all your help i went out and bought another d620 for my son. I am also looking forward to installing lion on my d620. I can do some testing for this forum if you want since i have 2 d620's. Thanks again dudes !!

With your info I was able to get my dell d620 up and running snow leopard 10.6.8. Awesome job dudes !!!
