  1. Ok, I just reinstalled ML. Moved IOPCIFamily.kext to /Extra/Extensions, removed the old NVIDIA kexts, and replaced it with the edited ones (not touching the 100Hal kexts), here's hoping it works after rebooting.

As for sleeping, I'm going to give the new SleepEnabler.kext a shot. If it works, I'll provide instructions to getting it going.

    Edit:

Darvinko, does IOPCIFamily.kext still need to be in /S/L/E/? My system won't move past the Apple logo. Looking in verbose move, a message saying "Resetting IOCatalogue" keeps showing up.

  2. Tengokuu, Did you resolve your Black Screen issue? I have resolved the Wi-Fi issue by dropping a IO80211Family.kext into Extra and running a full My Fix. Upon reboot you will see the familiar WiFi icon in the menu bar. You will need to go into network and reset it, but it's back working!

I never resolved my black screen issue. I'm going to reinstall Mountain Lion later on today and take things slower.

Truesuite doesn't work by the way. I've tried it, and it failed. Reading the E6400/E6500 thread, it appears OS X doesn't see it.

  3. These are my /Extra/ and /System/Library/Extensions folders; I have most things working. The only problem I can think of now is that the "nub" doesn't work (though I'm sure there are more)...

Our systems are identical (if you're signature is up to date). The only thing that is different is your wifi card and the fingerprint reader. Try backing up your folders and replacing them with mine. Just remember to include your wifi kext and don't forget to repair permissions.

Sorry about the big file size; Mountain Lion's kexts are pretty big!

What Wi-Fi card do you have? Also, the fingerprint swipe doesn't work no matter what with OS X, I guess it's just there for show, lol.

  4. This is what you should have in S/L/E: Edited versions of:

    GeForce.kext

    NVDANV50hal.kext

    NVDAResman.kext

    Unedited versions of:

    NVDAGF100hal.kext

    NVDAGK100hal.kext

I have what you said. :l

  5. Ok, I'm confused. When I removed the NVD kexts, you guys said there was three of them to remove. I had to remove four.

    NVDAGF100Hal.kext

    NVDAGAK100Hal.kext

    NVDANV50Hal.kext

    ...and NVDAResman.kext

At the moment, I have the three kexts I just got from Patel4Prez. What should I restore?

  6. Quick note: I had to boot with GraphicsEnabler=Yes after a restart; if I didn't, I got a black screen. I will modify my earlier post to reflect this....

    Thanks for reminding me :$

Weird thing, when I removed those kexts, I booted with GraphicsEnabler=Yes, and it had a native 1440x900 res already, turned it off, got back 1280x800. Just a weird thought.

So graphics are really working? (I'm myHacking my ML partition right now.) Like, you can ACTUALLY open Launchpad without it flipping tables on you?

  7. Darvinko, you've done it again! IT WORKED! No more screen tear, stuttering, etc.!

Attached are the edited kexts as per your request.

    Edited Nvidia Kexts.zip

I'm also very sorry to hear about your mother; my best condolences go out to you...

I'm about to have at your kexts, will report how it goes later on.

Darvinko, sorry about your loss... :(

  8. I'm not sure, my Wi-Fi broke also, but I have Ethernet. I tried putting the NVidia device id into the kext NVDANV100hal.kext and deleted the NVDANV50hal.kext and NVDSMU.kext, ran my fix, no good. I have done the same on the bootstick and I'm re-installing it now, I'll let you know if there's any difference. As far as Wi-Fi, I'm not sure what went awry, it recognized my rebranded card initially, but I lost it yesterday. Works fine in Lion.

Looking in verbose mode, it seems to be having a problem loading what looks to be the kext for the Broadcom card. The line reads this "Cant load kext com.apple.driver.airport.brcm4331" (brcm or brdcm, eitherway, same thing)

I also read another line but the words were something like this "Kext failed to load com.apple.driver.airport.brcm4331" something like this. Verbose mode goes too fast, especially with an SSD. <_<

It was the only thing in verbose mode that read something about a Wi-Fi loading issue, try it too.

  9. Well, I'm back from a incredibly busy day, and I can confirm that removing those NVD kexts allowed me to boot into ML without the -x flag.

After I DIDN'T boot into safe boot however, I got a problem with VoodooHDA giving me a KP. (So don't use it.), and my Wi-Fi broke. What gives?

  10. I have tried booting up with the wireless switch off and it has no effect on where the boot hangs...

@tengokuu I can confirm that the voodoobattery.kext in extra\extensions and repairing disk permissions works.

Also, to repair permissions and install other kexts, multifail from tonycrapx86 makes things a lot easier

That's good to hear. We're getting somewhere with this. I'm done with experimenting for the night, need some sleep. <_<

  11. Just made some little progress. I took the VoodooBattery.kext from my Lion installation and dropped it right into /Extra/Extensions/, went into Disk Utility, and repaired disk permissions (since I can't run myHack in safe boot), rebooted and the battery meter shows up just fine with correct readings.

As for emulated speedstep I can't get it going. VoodooTSCSync.kext was already in /Extra/Extensions/, so I ignored it. I took out VoodooPState.kext as well from my Lion installation, dropped it into /Extra/Extensions/ as well, rebooted but PStateMenu says the kext isn't loaded, needs some further investigation.

I also took Mariusz's DSDT.aml (https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=638), and dropped it inside /Extra/, rebooted with no issue, although I notice nothing different.

Tried to have at VoodooHDA to get audio going, booted normally, no effect.

SleepEnabler caused a KP, got around it with pmVersion=0 boot argument.

  12. *Sorry for my inactivity, really busy lately

Edit: Not capped anymore for some reason. Still getting the infamous ~200MHz difference, but I don't mind it. I'm still going to attempt Emulated Speedstep.

Also, if we boot via Safe Boot, there's no really way to tell if the graphics are working or not, right? For example, graphics work nicely on my old D820 here, but when I enable safe boot, it works as choppily as this E6400 is right now on ML. Perhaps we should narrow out the issues of why it refuses to boot without -x?

  13. Darvinko, your method of installation worked perfectly. Booted up into Mac App Store Mountain Lion. I guess I will narrow down the things that are messed up.

It sees my rebranded Broadcom card nicely, graphics are indeed choppy (no QE/CI) I even tried using the GraphicsEnabler flag, no audio, dead ethernet, no card reader.

I blame it on Safe Boot, but you can't boot into the OS without it.

  14.

After spending much of the night on it, I have succeeded in installing Mountain Lion GM on my beloved E6500, using a separate hard drive, although it still needs some kext tinkering. I have a doctors appointment to get to, but will add a detailed how-to upon return.

So the graphics is supported after all? (QE/CI)

Also, good job. If you got GM going, should be no doubt getting the official release up.

EDIT: Also, define kext tinkering. What's not working on your system at the moment?
