Update: The display problem is definitely related to the DSDT I'm using. No DSDT=Working built-in display (undocked); Working built-in display docked and ability to alternate from built-in to each external monitor 1 at a time via the Fn+F8 key; Mis-detected graphics card; Trackpad not working DSDT=Proper graphics detection, fully functional external DVI and HDMI externals, trackpad and everything working; NO built-in display The way I got the DSDT to work on my e6520 was by pasting and editing it using relevant information from other DSDTs including the one for the 6430 NVS 5200. I'm going to attempt to start with a vanilla and paste from the 6430 HD4000. TMB will be my friend. If I happen to get an alternate DSDT working on my system, I will upload it here in case others encounter a similar problem.

Yep, booting it undocked causes the dark screen on the native display. I'm going to double check the Extra contents and the DSDT. Something isn't just right. I'll post when I figure it out or end up at a dead end. The Fn+F8 for some reason is not working when the machine is still in the preboot state so something isn't right with the Fn key. I'll make sure it's enabled in the BIOS.

I used the bootpack for the HD4000 only and followed that thread. The graphics are properly recognized and the external monitor resolutions, DVI and HDMI, are what they ought to be. As for the built-in display, the moment the OS finishes booting and switches to graphical mode, the screen turns almost black (as if it detects a signal but doesn't display any video).

This is absolutely awesome! I think I'm going to get one for my e6520. Thanks for sharing this.

This was by far the easiest OS X install I have ever done. Thanks almost entirely to the EDP and boot packs on this site. Never before had I seen a system go from limping and barely able to boot to fully functional after a single reboot. I was very impressed. Full graphics functionality including QE/CI, shutdown, restart, and even SLEEP. This is the first E series Latitude where the card reader actually works. The only quirky thing going on right now, which I believe is a minor problem, is that the internal display isn't working. This is a 1600x900 resolution screen so that might be the issue because many of these e6430's have the 1366x768 display. I added <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1600x900x32</string> to org.chamelon.boot.plist but that didn't work. I keep them docked most of the time so this isn't a deal breaker just yet. I'll see if I can get this issue resolved. If anyone has encountered it or has any ideas, I'd like to hear them. Now I'm going to ComboUpdate it to 10.8.2....

Got 10.8 installed. Now the debugging and fixing modes start. Getting a strange one I haven't seen before: IOPluginUtil: Unknown CPU 0x3a (typing this from memory so it may not be exact). Also my graphics are shot so that will be fun getting to work. Detected as "Display 64MB of share memory" lol. Now I'm going to stick back that DSDT and start reading and trying things until this bad boy works like a champ.

It's installing now! My system does not like the DSDT supplied in the bootpack or in the thread linked to above. With virtually everything else held constant, the system booted into the installer once I renamed the DSDT file. So I'll know soon how far I'll get with it. I might do what I did with the e6520 which was to start off by creating a vanilla DSDT and patching away as needed. We shall see...

I mis-spoke. I do have the i5-3320 CPU actually. I'm dealing with some strange issues getting the installer to start. No KP's or anything like that. Either the system reboots after all the kexts are read and processed, or the screen goes black when the installer is about to start. Minor issues to me that I expect to get past. I'm looking at the BIOS settings right now and trying different things. If I can get this 6430 working as well or nearly as well as my 6520, I'm going to give back the 6520 and keep this one. It's a better performing system and most importantly, much lighter than the bulky 6520. Fingers crossed...

Thanks again, Jake Lo, I'll check out that thread. The e6430 I'm working actually has an i5-3210m processor, not the i7 found in many of them. Unfortunately it does not have the discrete Nvidia card, just the Intel HD4000. 8GB, 320GB, BIOS on A11.

I brought home an e6430 to mess with. It doesn't have the Nvidia graphics, just the HD4000. Preliminary installation attempts failed to boot into the graphical portion of the installer. I could tell it got in, just cannot display the graphics because the USB LED continues to flicker after the screen goes black. Hitting enter causes it to flicker as well so I know it's actually inside the installer but can't display graphics. I only messed with it for about a half hour but it will be fun adding this latitude to the list of others I have running ML. I encountered a similar problem with an e6510 but don't recall how I got passed it. This will be this weekend's project for me

Update: Got a second monitor today with a DVI input and now I have dual monitors running with an extended desktop. One running off the DVI while the other is running of an HDMI-DVI cable.
-
Sorry if you already stated the answer to this, but what type of computer are you using to create the install disk?
-
Since the e6520 can vary a little bit, such as processor type, graphics, etc. the one I am working on has the configuration shown.

Here you go, Jake Lo. Hope this helps. Shutdown and Restart both working with this DSDT on the e6520. DSDT_DraKuL71_6520.aml.zip

I am very pleased to state that after 3 weekends of tinkering around with NVCAP "crap", device ID injections, DSDT editing, a wide range of kexts, and of course countless KP's and TMB restores, I FINALLY got 2 external monitors to work! Unfortunately I cannot say whether the solution would have worked all along because I did not try it until today. Being aware that the DVI from the E-port always worked, and an HDMI-DVI cable from the e6520 to the same monitor worked as well, it finally occurred to me to try to connect the docked e6520 to both the DVI monitor and an HD TV simultaneously via an HDMI cable and there it was... a beautiful extended desktop. So now I need to get me a second "digital" monitor and I will be all set. I can answer simple questions and also share files because I am still new to the OS X world (I'm a full time Windows enterprise architect) and still learning the inner working of a Hackintosh. But let it be known that the NVS 4200M can support 2 digital external monitors. It would be nice if I could get VGA and DVI working together simultaneously but that's OK, monitors are cheap nowadays.
-
I am now able to get shutdown to work, DVI, and HDMI-to-DVI outputs. VGA works as well. However, I think there must be a limitation within the NVS 4200M which does not allow for 2 external monitors to work simultaneously. I can disconnect one and the other will light up instantly but getting them both is a no-no. I would be anxious to know whether anybody running this graphics card was able to get 2 external monitors going.
-
Excellent! Thank you so much for taking the time to dissect those files and provide this info. I'll give it a shot and report how it goes.

Ok nobody is responding. All I would like to know right now is whether anyone has managed to get 2 external monitors to work on an e6520. As I stated above and as Igashu has stated prior, it seems like the Nvidia 4200 in these things drives only 2 displays of which one has to be the built-in LCD panel. It's ironic because I can get an e6510 to work off the same E-port replicator and it drives 2 externals: 1 DVD, and 1 VGA. But I simply do not like that laptop as much as I do the e6520. Dual external monitors is a make it or break it deal for me so if it is confirmed that it isn't supported, then I will halt all efforts and either force myself to use the 6510 or see about getting an e6430. The dual monitor issue didn't work for me on 10.7.5 and isn't on 10.8.3 either.

*BUMP* - Reviving old thread. I have spent several months on and off messing with this trying to get 2 external monitors to work off an e6520 attached to a port replicator on both Lion and ML. I have one DSDT.aml (DSDT 1 ) that will enable the VGA port + built-in LCD and another (DSDT 2) that will enable the DVI port + built-in LCD. I'm no expert when it comes to DSDT patching and mods so this is all from messing around with different files. DSDT 1 also has shutdown working whereas DSDT 2 does not have shutdown working. Sleep is working on neither, and restart works on both. Here they are for reference in case someone wishes to mess around with them. I believe one of them is from Igashu. I have an e6510 that has both externals working perfectly on the same port replicator but of course I'd rather use the 6520. Attached are both files for those that wish to try them out or venture into patching/editing them. DSDT.aml.dvi.zip DSDT.aml.vga.zip

So you are able to still boot your system via the USB flash drive, correct? If so, then it's a matter of finding the offending kexts or whatever it is that's causing these KP's. Rather than use multifail to install the DSDT, simply place the attached DSDT.aml directly in your /Extra folder. You may want to rename the existing one to dsdt.aml.old in case you need to go back to it.
-
Attached is the DSDT.aml my system boots from. The issues and what's working are in my first post. I don't think this will work on a unit with an Intel GMA graphics chip. Worth a try though. Please report your results and hope this helps. DSDT.aml.zip

I apologize, I placed my benchmark result in the wrong spot. Could an admin please move it to the appropriate area and update the link? It's currently here: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1245-e6520/page__p__8378__fromsearch__1#entry8378 Again, sorry about that.

Have you started the install yet and if so, can you get it to boot? If not, are you planning on using the USB install method to get it going? If you still need a working DSDT I'll try to attach it within the next day or so.

After successfully getting the D8xx series laptops to work nearly flawlessly, I have moved to an E6520. I currently have 10.7.3 running pretty decently on it and it's been performing well for over a week now. I used some of the kexts and other fixes designed for the E6420 series to get it going. I finally got shutdown and restart to work using a DSDT designed for another E6xxx series. So here's what I have: Working: Ethernet, Graphics 1920x1080 including mirroring, all USB ports, web cam, Audio, VGA, Port Replicator (partial), shutdown, restart. Not Working: Intel wifi (to be expected), sleep, DVI port on port replicator (DVI works fine on the D8xx series replicator), SDHC (card reader), audio from the port replicator. Tried all the SDHC kexts to no avail but reading SD cards is no high priority to me. I'm hoping to somehow get DVI working on the port replicator and most importantly, sleep. Executing sleep simply locks up the device. Also, when I close the lid when the device is attached to a port replicator, the screen stays on. Anyone out there mess with the E6520, and if so, what were your experiences like and what do you have working? Specs from "About this Mac": Processor 2.49 GHz Intel Core i5 Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Graphics NVIDIA Quadro NVS 4200M 1024 MB Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b)

Lion will work great on it. I encountered minimal issues. The biggest being the wifi incompatibility of the Intel 49xxxagn card. Temporarily using an Asus USB N-13 stick for wireless connectivity. Everything else worked fine using EDP 2.2. Started off with Lion 10.7.2 and recently updated it to 10.7.3. Nvidia graphics running in 1680x1050x32 which I believe is the native resolution for the monitor and card. Sleep works, battery speed step (emulated I believe) and Bluetooth are working.
