[Short GUIDE] Install High Sierra on Lenovo X201 [i5 520M]
bd4utonite2 replied to TheOpSys's topic in The Archive
Hi TheOpSis... I am still having the same problem using your instructions.. I get a blinking cursor on the top left hand corner of my laptop screen... Clover is never booted......just hangs with the cursor blinking... Can you please share a screen capture of your Clover EFI.. for initial boot.... I am confuse if you do put the whole content of EFI-to reach installer in the USB's EFI partition or just the EFI from EFI-to reach installer to the USB EFI partition and the rest like boot, usr.... etc to the Install maOS High Sierra partition? My bios is set correctly as i have booted this machine with Mavericks a long time ago... Cheers bd4utonite2 PS... i use this to created the boot USB via terminal: sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/USB && say Boot Installer Complete -
Hi.... Thanks for the link but it did not work for me ? I still get a black screen with a blinking cursor on my x201. I put H. Sierra on a new USB Stick.. mounted the USB EFI Partition... Copied the EFI folder from your EFI-to reach Installer to the USB EFI... The remaining files and folders from "EFI-to reach installer" i copied to the non-EFI partition of the USB. No luck on boot as it never even reach the clover menu before boot. Is your method using VGA or the laptop's LCD??? Maybe you can share any special BIOS setting with me... Thanks bd4utonite2

Hi .. Can you tell me which version of clover did you use? I created a bootable usb with Sierra 10.12.6 applied Clover_v2.4k_r4220. Applied your DSDT.aml and SSDT.aml. I also put FakeSMC, HWInfo, Natit and VoodooPSController into EFI>Clover>Kexts>10.12 In your instructions.. you mentioned... Then to successfully boot into installer, you can remove the intelHDGraphics files from Extensions folder or you can place the attached IntellHDGraphics kexts into your extensions folder. I do not see this file in your Essential.zip and also... you say remove intelHDGraphics from the Extensions folder.. where is this extension folder..... it is definitely not in the EFI folder? during initial install there is no Extensions folder... Anyway i get a black screen with a blinking cursor.. i cannot seem to boot my machine..... Can you also tell me what yours bios setting is? I have got this machine to work with Mavericks a long time ago...with the instruction found in website.. I would really like to get my x201 to work with Sierra... Thanks bd4utonite2

Calabash... My Atheros 9285 wifi has been resolved. No patching of kext or DSDT was required. I happen to stumble upon a post where "Rehabman" recommended a user to use Toleda's kext called toledaARPT.kext which leaves the IO80211Family.kext untouched. Just install it using KextUtility and reboot... and the AR9285 works and is recognized as Airport Express wifi card Thanks again... -

Calabash... Yes 9280 works OOB... i have used it on my 2 intel nuc hacks (i3 with thunderbolt and the newer i5 with usb3) However I do have a spare 9285 and saw a youtube video on how to patch it using clover on the fly... I will give that a try....and let you know I have update the whitelist removal bios... but no time to test it at the moment... Thanks -

Hi rosnoun, You mean inside the <array></array>. That would make sense. I cannot find the config.plist file that is attached to the tutorial? What thread # is it? Thanks for the reply..... -

Hi Calabash.. Got QE/CI working.... I am stuck in audio with editing the config.plist directly. Where do you put those entries... For me I put it right at the end [before the last </dict>] and it did not work for me. I install the original AppleHDA.kext and DummyHDA.ket and repair the permissions and rebuild the kext. On the next boot I get a greyed out speaker on the top menu bar. I think your edits are correct but I think i am putting it in the wrong place. Can you share your config.plist for the sound and sound spamming in your thread? Thanks -

Hi Calabash, Post Install of the Patch QE/CI Acceleration with Clover on-the-fly did not work for me... I have a 1280x800 screen. May I ask... do you put all the entries in the Patched_FB.tiff? In your note you said SingleLink, Normal, LW1 worked for you. This is only 3 entries compared to what was shown in the tiff file. I also saw from Cooper1 but his instructions are not clear... you cannot go into the post install without first deleting the 2 Graphics kexts that you suggested. BTW... how do one repair permissions and rebuild kexts on the desktop? Thanks again... -

Hi Calabash.. Wow that is too deep for me.. as I am a newbie. Anyways, took Rosnoun's advice and it worked. Glad to see that you changed the documentation about the OLD/NEW way in the ACPI FYI... i could never boot the USB Thumdrive for install to the HD with all the fixes in the ACPI (default during install of clover) selected. So I de-selected them all in Old and New way. I will now try the rest of your instructions and see how I go.. Thanks... -

Hi Rosnoun. Thanks for that. I formatted the internal hd again and forgot to delete the AppleHD stuff as suggested by you above.. My bad. It's now working and I can get into the setup of Yosemite. My journey continues as I try to install the rest of the instructions... Thanks -

Hi Calabash... Can you explain the ACPI in the Clover Configurator... When you said OLD/NEW... do you mean for the Fixes to deselect or select all checkboxes or leave them as default from the Clover install on the USB? Thanks... -
