Complete set of files (Clover/Enoch) for El Capitan/Sierra
ktazn2k replied to polyzargone's topic in D8xx
I upgraded to r3330 and everything seems to be fine now, thank you. Ctrl + Power button even works. I think the only last thing you can make work is the trackpoint, but I still have yet to find a good kext for that.- 86 replies

I downloaded your new CLOVER.zip, replaced the CLOVER folder with my existing one, but things just went haywire. Suddenly now keyboard, trackpad and audio no longer works. Lid sleep doesn't work either. What did I do wrong? BTW, can you tell me exactly what you changed to get lid sleep to work? Thanks.- 86 replies

Hmmm... do you think it has anything to do with Clover? Have you tried Chameleon and seeing the power button and lid sleep works? The only reason I switched to Clover was because I couldn't load any kext in Chameleon in Extras, and had issues loading them in S/L/E too.- 86 replies

Closing the lid on my D830 doesn't sleep the computer or turn off the screen. Is it the same with yours?- 86 replies

I noticed the power button on the laptop no longer works to acess the shut down dialog. It actually does nothing on OS X. It used to work on Yosemite and prior versions, but not on El Capitan. I am using your clover folder and files. Is there any fix for this?- 86 replies

Yeah, I meant to say I changed EHCI to EHC2, then used USB_injector.kext. Left everything else alone as your config.plist for CLOVER already has an auto patch to rename EHC1/EHC2 to EH01/EH02. I was just wondering what the purpose of additionally changing USBx to UHCx if all the previous has been done. But thanks for clearing that up. I used your new DSDT and things are better. I can finally get my GPU sensors to be read. I was having random black screen issues when restarting/shutting down (all the way from Mavericks), but I'll see if this gets rid of that. Hopefully, it does as that's the only problem this laptop has.- 86 replies

BTW, what is the point of renaming USBx to UHCx? Is there a purpose? Because I didn't rename them and my USB ports are functioning fine.- 86 replies

I finally figured it out. It was your DSDT that was the problem. I switched back to using the DSDT that was supplied with EDP/bootpack on this website (which was working flawlessly on my D830) and got my wifi working again, but of course I had to modify it to rename EHCI to EHC2 for USB. Learning how to modify the DSDT was a pain though. So I'd say it's best to use your own DSDT if you can (or the one supplied here on EDP/bootpack) and do the modifications yourself to ensure all your hardwork is detected and working properly.- 86 replies

I am looking for some help. I got everything working except for wifi, which worked fine on Yosemite and prior with the same kexts. For some reason, El Capitan does not recognize my wifi at all, not even a symbol shows up on the menubar. I'm using a DW1390 wifi card. Which cards are you guys using? Could it be the card that's the problem? BTW, I'm using Clover. I have attached my EFI. EFI.zip- 86 replies

Where is all the D830 LOVE?!! If anyone has been successful in the installation of El Capitan on a D830 Nvidia, I would love to hear your results, including installation guide, files and any bugs. I know it should be very similar to the D630, but the D830 has a different GPU and amount of USB ports. So I don't think installation/setup are 100% identical to each other.

What I found to get the trackpoint, trackpad and keyboard all working eventually was to use the ALPS touchpad driver by ANV/Slice, BUT you have to open the kext package contents and remove "VoodooPS2Trackpad.kext" from Contents -> Plugins. This does have its drawbacks however. Even though this makes the trackpoint and its buttons fully work, you can no longer do two finger scrolling (or any type of scrolling) with the trackpad. This may be ignorable because I thought the scrolling was god awful to use with the kext in the first place. Tap to click still works fine though. Trackpad movement is also perfect without any glitches. Finally, it will show no trackpad found in System Preferences so you can't change any specific trackpad settings. For now this is the best method I think to get all three working to a good degree. Of course, if anyone can find a way to get the trackpoint working with all the multi-touch gestures of trackpad in addition, that would be beautiful.
-
Has anyone found of any kext or combination of kexts that allows the trackpoint and its buttons to work, along with additionally the keyboard and trackpad fully working? I'm still using ALPS touchpad by anv/slice 1.1.5 and while the trackpad and keyboard works real well, the trackpoint and its buttons do not work at all. This is the last thing to get working on this machine and it'll be 100% perfect.

Anyone having restart/shutdown issues with final App Store version 10.10 Yosemite and 10.10.1 update on an Nvidia D830? Yosemite runs perfectly, so much faster than Mavericks even, but restart and shutdown seems to be broken. Most of the time the laptop fails to restart/shutdown. The display turns off like it's about to restart or turn off, then it just sits there forever. I have to force power it off and on again. Also, this does not happen all the time. The laptop does restart and shut down properly sometimes, but majority of time it does not. Sleep works fine. I can confirm it's not a hardware problem as I have Windows 8.1 installed on the same partition and the problem doesn't exist there. The only kexts I use are: * FakeSMC (latest version and modified with 01330F00 0008 value) * ACPIBatteryManager * Patched_10.7_AppleRTC * IOATAFamily * BCM5722D * VoodooHDA 2.8.4 * AppleACPIPS2Nub * ApplePS2Controller Running on Chameleon v2.3, but it happens with Clover as well. This is what my bootlist looks like. Maybe someone can help me fix or improve it. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>GenerateCStates</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>GeneratePStates</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>Kernel</key> <string>/System/Library/Kernels/kernel</string> <key>Theme</key> <string>AngelBird</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>2</string> <key>UseKernelCache</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>kext-dev-mode=1</string> </dict> </plist> Much thanks!

I suggest doing a fresh install of Mavericks rather than trying to update from ML. I have the same D830 as you (minus the SSD and bluetooth dongle). Although I did succeeded upgrading directly from Mountain Lion to Mavericks, in the end I had to reinstall Mavericks from start because the system became buggy. Also, try to find version 10.9 of Mavericks (untouched App Store copy) if you can, meaning not 10.9.1, 10.9.2 or 10.9.3. Later releases tend to not work well with initial installation as I've heard. Once you have that, create an OS 10.9 installer with myHack, install Extra from the boot pack here and install OS 10.9 on a freshly formatted drive/partition. Once you get Mavericks up and running, then should you upgrade to 10.9.3. After doing the 10.9.3 upgrade, proceed to run EDP and configure for your laptop. That should get you going. Good luck! And don't bother with Yosemite unless you want massive headaches from switching between Chameleon and Clover. I still have yet to get Yosemite DP2 working perfectly with my D830. It's just still too early to be an easy and functional install.
-
Just a heads up for anyone attempting to install DP2 using Chameleon, it will not work atm. The system will hang at boot up with a bunch of errors. Switching to Clover fixed it, allowed the installation to complete and successfully boot. Unfortunately since I run Mavericks, Yosemite and Windows on the same partition, I now have a weird hybrid of Chameleon + Clover. Chameleon runs on my main and active partition (Mavericks), so it will always override Clover installed on second partition (Yosemite), but it will not boot Yosemite with DP2. I have to resort to installing Clover bootloader on a separate USB flash drive whenever I want to boot Yosemite for now. I don't want to get rid of Chameleon because I prefer it over Clover, so I'll just wait until a fix is found for DP2 on Chameleon.

So I had a chance to clone my working Yosemite installation from USB HD to internal HD and I must say the speed increase is signifcant upon doing so. Yosemite is no longer laggy and graphics are about as smooth as Mavericks. The only graphics lag is using stacks. Shamefully, I cannot use it as main OS as a lot of software aren't working properly with it and alias functionality seems broken. I'm really looking forward to future DP and GM so I can switch it to my main OS pernametly. BTW, I got battery indicator working on my D830 with Yosemite using ACPIBatteryManager by RehabMan: https://bitbucket.org/RehabMan/os-x-acpi-battery-driver/downloads VoodooBattery doesn't work. I also have the exact same kext list as Herve, minus VoodooBattery. I had to install most of my extensions in S/L/E instead of Extras with Kext Wizard, then run full maintenance with it to get them all working.

Thanks for the insight. I finally was able to get Clover working and 10.10 installed on my external drive after staying up all night trying to research and fix things. In the end I still gave up on Clover because no matter what I did, 10.10 kept freezing upon boot. I noticed a new version of Chameleon was released and is now working with 10.10. I ended up reformatting and reinstalling 10.10 with just Chameleon exclusively. Now 10.10 works fine on my D830. Here is the new version of Chameleon made for Yosemite: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/files/file/262-chameleon-r2377-os-x-1010/ Hopefully this means myHack will be updated soon for Yosemite support. Few observations: * Graphics are pretty choppy and slow compared to Mavericks, especially scrolling in Safari. This happens even after doing FakeSMC tuning. I'm not sure if this will be fixed by the gold master. If not, I might just stick to Mavericks on the D830 or upgrade to a real Mac laptop when it comes out. * VoodooBattery isn't working at all in Yosemite. * Occasional beach ball lag, more so than Mavericks. Other than that, everything seems to be smooth sailing. I actually like the new interface, which is way more cleaner than any other OS X version. I even like the dock better. They also added a new preview pane for finder, which is really awesome.

Refering to your D630n Yosemite thread: So I followed this tutorial. FYI I'm using D830 with Nvidia Quadro 140, running perfectly fine with 10.9.3. But I cannot get Clover to boot into Yosemite installer on my USB drive. When trying to boot into it, I just get a black screen for a few seconds, then the laptop shuts itself off. When I tried verbose, safe and single user booting or literally any other boot option, I always get the error "This version of Mac OS X is not supported on this platform!" and then all things just stop. Also, doing a standard Clover install resulted in Clover not booting and stuck at blinking cursor. I had to do manual install and select "Install boot0af in MBR" to get it actually boot. I don't know if there are other settings I need to check in Clover custom installer to get it working on Nvidia Dell D830 laptops? I moved FakeSMC.kext already into EFI/Clover/kexts/10.10 Added argument kext-dev-mode=1 into config.plist. Tried multiple versions of Yosemite DP. Is there anything you suggest? Or perhaps you can post your entire steps to how you got it working on your D630, since I assume a D830 would be the same.

As long as it's CCFL and not LED, it should work fine. I replaced the screen on my D830 numerous times. First it was to upgrade to 1920 x 1200 WUXGA, but I found the 15" display and that resolution made the text and font far too small. Then I replaced it with 1680 x 1050 WXSGA+ and found the resolution was perfect. I also upgraded from matte to glossy which made the colors a lot more vivid and detailed. At first I made sure to purchase original Dell OEM screens. But then I skipped and got one from unknown Chinese manufacturer, because it was brand new and gauranteed no dead pixels. This one works very good and I'm very happy with it.

Try removing AppleACPIPlatform.kext if you have it in your Extras/Extensions folder. Make sure the AppleACPIPlatform.kext in S/L/E from the 10.9.2 install is not modified or removed. Then run myFix (full) with myHack and restart. That did the trick for me and restored my native sleep function on D830 Nvidia.

D830 Nvidia - 10.9.2 Broke Sleep! Any Fix or Downgrade?
ktazn2k replied to ktazn2k's topic in The Archive
Alright, so after some fiddling around I think I got the sleep issue resolved! What I had to do was to remove AppleACPIPlatform.kext from the Extras folder and leave the original one alone in S/L/E (10.9.2 installs a new AppleACPIPlatform.kext, even if you removed it previously). Then I ran myFix full with myHack and native sleeping is resolved, albeit going to actual sleep takes a little longer than previously. I was encouraged here to always remove the AppleACPIPlatform.kext that is in S/L/E because it sometimes causes slow or unresponsive restart and shutdown. If I leave AppleACPIPlatform.kext both in Extras and S/L/E then sleep doesn't work. The same goes if I leave it in Extras and delete the one in S/L/E. The only way to fix is it to remove the one in Extras and leave the one in S/L/E. I will test this out for awhile and see if I run into issues. Atm, restart and shutdown seem to both function fine, as long as everything else. -
I heard a topic on here that indicates it was safe to upgrade to 10.9.2 on my D830. I went through all the updates from 10.8.0 till 10.9.1 and never once had anything broke. However, I should have researched a bit more or even made a backup, because 10.9.2 definitely broke something—sleep. My D830 no longer sleeps properly. Display shuts off but system remains on until I force reboot/power off. It seems like other users are reporting sleep being broken, while others say it's still fine for them. I wonder if someone has come up with a reason why this update broke sleep for us or found a fix for it yet? I am using native power management with the performance tuning with FakeSMC and SMBIOS as reported in OS X Latitude website. Do you think changing it to use nullcpupowermanagement and sleepenabler will make the laptop sleep again? Anyone else with sleep broken on 10.9.2 using this setup? I really don't want to downgrade back to 10.9.1 because I didn't make a backup.

I just did it the absolute ghetto way by taking one of the stickers Apple provided with any new computer and attaching over the Dell logo of my D830. From far away, it looks like the real thing, except it doesn't light up and is little too big. I'm not too technically savy enough for that kind of mod, and I plan on selling this in the future to get a real Mac laptop. Good luck with your experiment. Please do post photos of the final product!

I'm using Dell DW 1390 wireless card. It's only g speed and there is no n speed, but my home isn't set up with n and I don't need the extra speed anyways. Works just fine.

D830 ML 10.8.3 sound reverts back to internal speakers after sleep
ktazn2k replied to ktazn2k's topic in The Archive
*Sigh* After updating to 10.8.4, the speakers switching issue has returned after sleep, even using the original AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement. Aside from rebuilding with EDP, is there something else I can try? I like to continue using AppleHDA as VoodooHDA has a few bugs with the audio crackling randomly and AppleHDA worked fine in 10.8.3. Did 10.8.4 put a new version of AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement? I guess I can try to roll back to the 10.8.3 version if they did.
